Jagdwaffe pilots claimed only 3 P-51 (2 by 4./JG 302, one by Major Harder Jürgen Stab I. JG 53 P-51 24 Ost N/UL 9: 5500m [Blejesti]), but Hungarian 1., 2 and 3. VS claimed another 4.

Incredible story. My dad also flew P51s against the Japanese in WW2. He would have been similar age as Lt Siems and he also passed away in 1993

Thank you for such bravery story! Saving the squad leader despite knowing he would be targeted next, was ballsy move! Getting hit like that and still managed to land was another epic stuff. Then coming back from the morgue was totally incredible.

Eric Hartmann was in Hungary that time. Also, the 101th Fighter Group (which was created to encounter the USAAF forces) was a very determined and hardy unit, with higher kill-to-loss ratio than any German units that time. They were: The Red Pumas.

Thanks TJ for another great video. For those interested in learning more about this mission, it is detailed in the book: "2 July 1944: Allies strategic aerial operations in the MTO and Axis defense response" by Peter Kassak. The USAAF dispatched over 700 bombers and almost 340 fighters.

OMG, what a story, thanks for the great video TJ3! If you want to see what the morgue scene was possibly like, watch the Alfred Hitchcock TV episode called Breakdown. Maybe Hitch knew of this war tale and adapted it into a car accident because the details are the same. It's very hard to watch because its so dramatic.

I did research on this mission after finding out that a great uncle was a B-24 pilot KIA just west of Budapest! I gave a lot of research to Troy White on Kid Homer. Even got a letter from the German pilot credited with two of the six B-24's lost!

@TJ3 I dug around afterwards and all I could find is JG302. Reschke was in the air which is cool! I love that the two P-51s they claim are the point of your vid. Still though seems like the Germans got mauled pretty bad. "On 2 July I./ JG 302, led by Hptm. Richard Lewens, attacked 603 B-24 Liberators of the 15th Air Force, attacking targets near Budapest; they were escorted by 270 fighters. Combats ranged from Budapest into Southern Slovakia. I./ JG 302 claimed 19 B-24s and two P-51s, but lost 12 Bf 109s and 10 crewmen killed in the battle." I've been playing war thunder since it was planes only and I absolutely love your work! Keep it up.

No, this is paralyzed in a different sense. As in temporarily unable to move. He lived a normal life and made a full recovery.
