Traveling from Malawi to Mozambique turned out to be one of the most intense journeys I've ever experienced. Using local public transportation in Africa is an adventure on its own-buses wait for hours to fill up before they even think about departing, and this trip was no exception. After a long and exhausting day on the road, I finally reached the border town, only to be greeted by more challenges. The immigration office had no electricity or internet, so I had no choice but to stay overnight at a small place near the border. In the morning, the staff still struggled with internet access, so I shared my hotspot, and after a four-hour wait, I finally got entry into Mozambique.
Before I left Malawi, several people warned me about traveling to Mozambique, saying that a war was going on in parts of the country, and it might not be safe. Their words stayed with me, adding to the unease I already felt as I entered. Once I reached my destination, I was too anxious to venture out after sunset. The place was quiet, unfamiliar, and a bit intimidating, so I stayed indoors to be safe. Despite the challenges, I’m grateful I made it, and this journey taught me a lot about resilience, patience, and the kindness of strangers even in the most remote areas.
