How A Para Commando Became An Author: Major Abhay Sapru is a graduate from Delhi University who joined Indian Military Academy. He got commissioned in 1988 and volunteered for Special Forces. During his decade long stint with the Indian Army, he served extensively in almost all the insurgency -ridden areas in the sub-continent --Sri Lanka, Kashmir and the North-East of India. He is a recipient of Sena Medal awarded for gallantry in operations in Sri Lanka and the Army Chief's commendation card for exemplary service.
Abhay was a core member in raising a Commando RR battalion for ops in Kashmir and served on the staff, with two Army Chiefs as their ADC.
Post his Army career, he did a course in Real estate from the National University of Singapore and joined an MNC brokerage firm (JLL). Subsequently, he was the Country Head for the Realty Department of the following companies: ABN AMRO, Aegon Religare & The Religare Group. He subsequently retired as Senior Group President, from Yes Bank. He is a published author of three combat novels & other articles /short stories written for the national magazine Tehelka and the Outdoor Journal. Other than writing, he is a keen skier and distance runner and has participated in a few Ultra Marathons across the world. He is now settled in Bombay. He served in Sri Lanka/Assam/ Nagaland/ Kashmir, He also served as ADC and ADC Security for Gen Rodriquez and Gen Joshi. He was also posted as instructor at Para Regimental Training Center Bangalore
