There's a point where cleansliness becomes ridiculous, and those aliens are ridiculous. When their whole existence revolves around total cleansliness, they stagnate. They learn nothing new or make any advancements. Imagine if that spider had found its way onto their evacuation ship. Or stayed hidden until they returned to their homeworld. An entice race panicked because of one house spider. One good size shoe, applied correctly, would have solved their problem in a moment.
