that's a bad Skull Merchant. Prior to her nerf she was the closest thing this game had to a spider. After her nerf, ironically, 3 genning did become more of her actual play style because she has a passive power with significant limitations. Her 3 gen is actually her weakest strategy. What they put on display was the most optimal perks, on a hand picked map for the most optimal 3-gen and then pointed and blamed Skull Merchant for it all, instead of considering what was doing the heavy lifting.

The most interesting part of this for me was watching how Eternal's strategy was changing. First they were trying the "conventional" strategy of doing drones, then tanking exposed but KL was protecting Zaka and being a bodyguard on the unsafe gen, and eventually the strategy that led them to a win: to tank exposed, stack two people on one gen, and split two other people on the other two gens. Loved watching this from that perspective.

This isn't mutually exclusive. The Killer player here can be very skilled at the current iteration of the Skull Merchant, and that said killer design has MAJOR flaws that can be exploited. The player here is not at fault, if not them, then another player would find out how to abuse this playstyle. It's the unfortunate consequence of the killer's oppressively passive playstyle that BHVR has made, and I personally think it IS showcasing the imbalance of the Killer. It's not like piloting the killer doesn't take skill, it's just that the mastery of the play pattern is just mind-numbingly unfun to deal with.

They wouldn’t be able to break into the 3 gen without going down and the time forced is active would’ve canceled any upward momentum they had. I didn’t watch the whole hour, but I assume they got progress on the gens slowly before they pushed while injured. (The entire reason for bumrushing while injured was because the heal reset ratio allowed for more progress than regression. If they couldn’t heal, there’d be no progress.)

The strategy Eternal used to break the 3 gen is not something you could ever feasibly pull off in a soloq match so even if it can be done this clearly needs to be changed. That's a bit of an extreme reaction. I've run into SM maybe 5 times since her release. Nobody wants to play her because she's boring and survivors DC or suicide against her. It's not an urgent issue. I usually play characters while I P3 them. I am not looking forward to the SM days.

At least when you get camped or tunneled you can just go into another match. Unless you dc you can essentially be held hostage for an hour. So no matter how uncommon it is I think this should be taken care of quickly before it can become a more widespread issue. And with this video there will probably be even more players who pick her up and try to do the same thing either because they think it would be funny or because they want to be toxic

​@@lycanpawsIt's mostly the way the killer encourages the worst playstyle in the game. 1. Her drones are meant for holding an area, which leads to what you see in the video. This drags out games forever and is basically impossible to beat without a coordinated team like this. 2. She's generally weak in chase and offers the most borung type of counterplay: hold W and leave the loop she places her drone in. Survivors want to be chased (as its a core part of the game) and if your killer is so bad at chases that they resort to this type of 3 genning, nobody has fun. 3. The exposed status effect from her drones discourage teamplay and altruism (taking hits, unhooking, etc.) which is the most fun part of survivor gameplay. 4. If she's holding a 3 gen like here, she has no reason to hook you and you will be left slugged on the ground (which feels terrible on the survivor side) 4. Like hens said, everything feels meaningless in a drawn out Skull Merchant game. You get hit, you run and heal up as she's not gonna commit to a long chase. You do a gen, she comes over kicks it and leaves with nothing meaningful really happening. This killer is so flawed it's insane.

I have always said it and will continue to say, the Skull Merchant is a ridiculous killer, it is ridiculous that in small maps like Midwich she can quite literally negate half of the entire map, the drones on red mode detect you even thought you are in another floor so she knows where you are, if you dont get rid of them you get Exposed, she has addons that when a survivor enters/stays in the area of a red drone they suffer Oblivious and Hindred, so she puts a drone near a gen, the drone detects you so she knows where you are, you will be Oblivious, Hidred and Exposed, what a fun combination, "just get rid of the drone" she sees us going to break the drone, while we break the drone and even after we break it because now you have a tracker on you, if you were able to touch the generator for more than 5 seconds after destroying the drone you should call that a win because thats the most progress that gen will ever see, if the the drones go yellow mode she can instantly put them in red mode from across the map, if a drone is destroyed she can put another one instantly and survivors with a tracker can't destroy drones so it's a infinite cicle. Rework when?

@@krino45 All survivors were injured (because they realised they couldn't afford to waste time healing up if they wanted to break the 3-gen). As soon as it became apparent that a gen pop was inevitable the SM should have just tried to get as many slugs as they could before the gen pop happened. There's no strat that stops you from losing the gen in that situation, but you can at least try to get some value/pressure elsewhere in preparation for when it does. Better to have it pop with 2/4 survivors slugged and the remaining 2 injured. That way there would be at least SOME pressure in endgame.

She is everything that was wrong with Knight and worse, takes no skill whatsoever and gets everything for free and is boring to play as and against. And absolutely there needs to be some kind of strategy in the game where survivors should have to think about what gens they do in what order, otherwise gen pressure becomes nonexistent unless you're a Blight, Wesker, Nurse, or Spirit. The disparity between the high and low tier killers makes it hard to balance and I worry with the upcoming changes it's going to swing too hard one way or another. But I do think certain 3-gens should not exist where the killer barely has to move and it becomes impossible to break if someone dies or in solo queue without running gen-rush perks. The RPD and Haddonfield ones were fixed but super close ones still exist on other maps like Swamp to the point even the worst killers in the game will win because people just give up rather than play it out.

I don't think 3 gens are that big of an issue currently, excluding of course a couple of outliers such as that swamp map. Having to strategize and carefully consider which generator to do is fun for me as survivor and adds a healthy amount of chance for a killer to be able to turn around a bad start. Killers like skull merchant who are optimized to hold 3-gens and other map features forever, on the other hand, should never, ever exist. It completely ruins the balance and fun for everyone in the game.

Is she better than you and condemn you. Or are you better at juggling condemn relief and gens. I like killers who's win conditions are not chasing you and hooking. Instead the condition is working on a mori. Which is why I also enjoy fighting pig. Pig will try to headpop you. Also a big thing that I like is both of these killers, especially sadako are actually scary. Pig is situationally scary when your headtrap starts beeping red. Sadako is just always a little scary and I like that. I just wish there were more killers for people like me.

I think the biggest mistake the Skull Merchant made was not performing a double back after knocking a body blocker to get a double slug. At that point, you've downed two people on the opposite side of the map to their teammates. This gives you time to either chase down a third and completely break their formation or reset gens.

What's scary is instead of ACTUALLY fixing her power, they will probably go the lazy route of making it so she can't even three gen by just removing one drone from her kit. I think the problem with Skull Merchant is how easy this is to pull off. Like Nurse and Blight have only managed to scrape by with slaps on the wrist because "they're hard to play", but 3 gen skull merchant is very easy to play. I say this as someone who has used 3 gen skull merchant before and it is not challenging to find some good angles to sneak up on gens, hit survivors with sloppy and kick gen. Most games the survivors get so bored they just give up.

Most matches he plays will be against either solo queue players with no coordination, or some swf teams who don't quite have the adaptability skills that Eternal displayed in this game to be able to change strategies on the fly to find one that worked. Unfortunately this style of play on SM was a result of very poor character design & probably lack of 'stress-testing' the killer to their full potential. The fact this killer came after Knight who was also used for 3-gen hostage taking is pretty mind-boggling to me.

Remember this is the best team in the world and they only had 5 minutes to spare. Teams even slightly worse than them probably would’ve at best maybe gotten like 80%. Doing this in a real match against solo queue teammates is basically a guaranteed win

Every single employee at BHVR regardless of their involvement in her design should have to watch this entire match. This is the game y'all are working so hard to keep alive. A game without the intention of legitimate competitive grounds that people love enough to sweat their hearts out regardless; Reduced to this *riveting* gameplay loop from one of your most recent killers to date. Cant wait to never play against this strategy and save countless precious hours doing literally anything else

I like to play as Scull Merchant, but I don’t hold three gens, just use drones in chase. I’m not that good either. But the amount of disconnects… you should see. When I ask people in the post game chat why they disconnected even though I was playing casually, they say they were expecting 3gen gameplay. After this video I’ll get 4 disconnects every time😢

@@jfoster8624 thing is, skull merchant can 'set up' a 3 gen in about 10 seconds, just place drones there and never leave, that was the killers whole plan from the start, only reason she went to pressure to begin with was because nobody was over there at the time

That was their main problem. They had to learn in less than 60s how this SM played. After a bit they figured out but had much less time. I bet if they play 3-4 matches they get out in 15m probably. I was also worried that he might win this match, but I was sure he wouldn't win if they had a rematch, that's what made it so frustrating, because the SM sure as hell wouldn't want a rematch.

I believe (never played against skull merchant) that isolating a gen far away (so there are 2 gens on need to be done, 4 gens in game) could be used to store potential energy so you can save that 20% of gen progress and use it to push and put pressure on the strong 3 gen.

It was awesome to see a team actually bring anti-3-gen perks to this match, this felt like a true competitive test unlike past videos I've seen where survivors brought the usual second-chance/chase meta. I think this also proved SM needs extensive fixes to empower her in chase and to discourage 3-gen- if a killer makes a mistake it shouldn't cost all players in the match an hour of their lives.

I admire the teamwork, constant readjusting of strategy, plan execution, the awareness, application of knowledge, a hard fought victory but a beautiful one nonetheless. Its safe to say that Skull merchant definitely needs a rework of her ability.
