Used to fly Port Moresby to Lae regularly. Most memorable landing into Lae was a few hours after the local tribes had cut all the comms and power cables and sprayed departures with bullets. Still have the photos and hand written boarding pass for the return flight the next day.

This is for the algorithm: I love this channel, and don't understand why it is underrated either. 3 Greens, Mini Air Crash Investigations, Green Dot Aviation, Allec Joshua Ibay and Disaster Breakdown are all good, but 3 Greens is the best. Also, what I don't understand is why the airline didn't repair the yaw damper, so the autopilot could function. Would anyone drive on a highway in a modern car without functioning cruise control? Probably not. So, the airline should have fixed the yaw dampener, especially in a modern year as recent as 2011. Hopefully these smaller airlines such as PNG can change their ways and be thorough with repairs and training such as Lufthansa, Delta or Quantas. Thankfully, pretty much airline is much safer compared to taking ground transportation. Anyways, keep up the good work 3 Greens. :)

Oh wow. I once corrected someone who referenced a KZbin channel called “three greens” because we were on a channel called “ green dot aviation” so I had assumed the person commenting had mixed up the aviation term 3 greens (landing gear down and locked) with the “green dot speed” which that other channel is named after (the green dot speed is the speed that results in the best climb gradient in case of an engine failure) I apologize! I didn’t know about this channel until now. Like they say you can only do better when you know better, so now I shall.

I can't believe the amazing skill shown in the production of these videos. The speaking, visuals, and TIMING make each video RIVETING. The storytelling animation is simple, but 100% fit with the style. The video regarding the aircraft and interior are really high quality. Combine that with great information presented at the non-pilot level, and I agree. This channel and the person(s) producing the whole package deserve recognition. I hope your skills in digital "directing, producing, etc...). let you go far in life! More subscriptions! More videos please.

The Dash-8 is one of the Few Planes i would rather ditch in the water then crashland on rough terrain with trees and such. The clean hull shape and no low engines means it WILL land like a flying boat if done properly albeit come to a much more violent stop and probably still have a few fatalities But much better than rough ground as the Dash-8 landing gear so weak it will offer little impact absorption landing in the forest.

Thanks for this incident. I know it's challenging, but pilots should always know the "golden rule," which is one of them should always be tasked with flying the plane. I don't care if they've discovered a king cobra in the cockpit...one of them needs to fly the plane while the other pilot focuses on killing the cobra!

Curious as to why you illustrate a video about difficult airfields in PNG with footage of a takeoff from Lukla in Nepal?
@AlanTheBest97 Жыл бұрын
the fact they were piloting with full manual control is weird enough already, probably thats what caused the accident. It is actualy quite hard to babysit a twin engine complex plane such as this during a trip. I fell victim to this many times before, all the sudden you are quicly looking at the map and then bam overspeed. Especialy these large FAR 25 aircraft will pickup speed very fast with very minimal changes in atitude because they are so big and heavy, the airspeed just sneaks up on you. Prety precarious work conditions IMO. I mean as an airline pilot in PNG which is literaly one of the toughest places to fly in the world I would expect that my employer gave me at least an autopilot so I could focus on being safe clearing the mountains and doing proper procedures. In my book its pretty absurd that the airline was making the pilots do all the work without a simple autopilot. I disagree when you say it was not endangering the operation, the inop autopilot would 100% make this very dangerous, I would not have felt comfortable at all in their situation. In thesescenarios the cognitive overload is very real and taking manual control of a plane such as this should not realy be done aside from takeoff and landing. Lack of autopilot 100% caused the accident IMO, seriously what is a yaw damper fix for an airline? its realy a penny, pretty bad on the airline part as well.

The same challenge has the B737 with an unoperative yaw damper?

Don't know but it seems suspicious that the crew survived but all but one passenger died. Did the crew even attempt to help any passengers? Feels a bit like shades of the Costa Concordia.
@Tuxfanturnip Жыл бұрын
considering the fuselage was in pieces and burning, I don't think there was any way to get anyone out who couldn't make it on their own. The Costa Concordia was hours from fully sinking when the captain ditched, but a situation like this would have the passengers cooked in minutes. Unfortunate, but not much the crew could do without firefighting equipment.

Thanks for the feedback mate. I’ve been working with my editor to reduce the impact of the music. But sorry that it’s still impacting you. Have you tried KZbin’s auto closed captions by any chance? Let me know your thoughts if so.
@PJay-wy5fx Жыл бұрын
@3Greens the same goes for me. It's also an accessibility issue. Automatic captions often don't show when watching on a phone using full screen, only in the view mode where you have the YT clutter showing. Which is not a pleasant viewing experience. The solution to that would be for creators themselves to provide subtitles to their videos. If they insist in having music. Which I don't understand personally what the added value is. I'm sure there is a psychological reason to this which has been studied and all, based on a very average viewer audience. Which is probably not the same demographic as aviation incident channel fans. Personally, I very much prefer videos without music, it brings out the content so much better.
