They Congress needs to allow the postal service to increase postage to get things moving faster efficient and effectively and our stations updated from deplorable to solid buildings that are functional and updated and stop the harassment of its workforce the Carriers the face and strength of this service and bring back better customer service as management is too focused on numbers and not what’s right.

Our previous letter carrier was horrible and after hundreds of complaints PO supervisor allowed her to continue to fail. She delivered our mail at 7-9PM but on her days off the sub would deliver our mail around noon, boxes left in the rain/soaked even though she had plastic bags in truck, constant wrong address. Neighbors up the road had a binder of complaints but office said "mail only has to be delivered by 10PM", "we told her to wear reading glasses", "she is going to retire soon", "the union protects them". As an ex postman, junk mail is a waste of money for the post office. We had to deliver to every door rather than just addresses with real mail. This greatly increases overtime payments which were 50% more than the base hourly rate. Most people just bin the junk mail when received.

I'm smart enough to know "junk mail" right now is paying for my trucks to move the mail. The way to get USPS efficiency back is to make up for lost 1st Class mail volume with new fees that will lower 1st Class postage stamp rates. The Federal government must initiate a new fee for every online bill payment made in the US, on both sender and receiver of billings/payments that formerly moved two ways through the mail system. Banks collect the fee and send it to the US Treasury.

Our local postmaster gets 4 hours at our PO and the go work at another post office for more time. In bad weather if mail is late it makes things crazy for her. I think the fluff is at the top everywhere. So many offices have closed . This man removed the conveyors when he came in. Hand sorting takes longer. He did that. Most of you suggesting that don't understand that businesses mail out more mail on Thursday and Friday, so then more mail would pile up in post offices and sorting facilities for the entire weekend. Not doing Sunday sorting and movement of mail to post offices like used to be the norm is already inefficient. Saturday being cut would swamp the system, not save money. You would just have to hire more temporaries to work on Monday and Tuesday. The decision here is NOT about whether you personally needing or not needing your mail delivered on Saturday.

On Tuesdays, I only get junk mail. I would much rather see regular mail on Tuesday and no mail on Saturday. Is there really anyone that can't wait to Monday to get their mail. Think about all the money that is spent to deliver mail, on overtime, on Saturday. The post office has to be allowed to adjust their practices.

Letter Carriers aren't being paid overtime to deliver on Saturday. The standard schedule is 5 days a week with rotating days off. One floater carrier covers 5 routes on the regular carrier's day off throughout the week. In addition, any workday after a day of no mail delivery requires overtime because it takes longer to do the route with the added mail volume (so Mondays and days after holidays always take longer). Mondays would require even more overtime if there was no mail deliver on Saturday and Sunday.

Bump the price of First Class Mail to $1. Eliminate all bulk first class discounts. Dump the deadweight positions. Use the money to buy advanced sorting machines. Ditch the unreliable delivery vans that were added to the fleet for the last contract which are a net-negative, and replace with Rivian Delivery EV Vans which are a net postive.

USPS does a great job. my wife gets handwritten letters from her sisters in France and Tahiti. the beautiful stamps the beautiful handwriting. lovely experience. worth supporting

Was in Paris for the Olympics this past summer. Made multiple trips to post office to mail out cards, letters, and postcards. They have computerized machines that do the mail. I only asked for assistance on a box once. Never had issues, used google translation to translate French into English. They had one or two people work the floor to assist only when necessary. Easy,peasy, no worries. Cost savings, quit deliverying on Saturdays. Give people two days rest!

A friend send a priority small box from western Ma. It went to Springfield Ma to Denver Co. After that it went Indianapolis Mn then to Boston Ma. From Boston to Cambridge,from Cambridge to Somerville. From Somerville back to Cambridge to be deliver toy house. In what world does a box need to go through all that to go from western Ma to eastern Ma.?

How about instead of automating the system for packages you get out of the package system. Let the package professionals do that business. USPS doesn't charge what it actually cost them to process packages. They also do not charge what it cost them to distribute the bulk mailers. Do the job you were formed to do and leave the rest to private enterprise.

Since DeJoy took over it now takes 8-10 days for a letter to go 100 miles in my state. I get my meds thru the mail and have to order them a month out to insure I don't run out.

There needs to be a MUCH better automation process in the USPS system nationwide, and only Congress can approve that. They love to pass the blame, but it really is on their shoulders, not the postmaster --- who is a problem, but he can't make the fixes needed alone.

Cutting labor from a labor intensive job is not logical.. the postal service, as well as other government positions offered good benefits to attract and keep good people. The job of Politicians in the House is to spend our tax dollars wisely and provide as many jobs as possible.. not to penny pinch by taking away benefits.. Raise the price of a stamp... Instead of DISCOUNTING the charge for junk mail, and increasing the cost of FIRST-CLASS mail, charge all mail at full first-class rate and charge junk mail an extra two cent per piece rate for "trash disposal"! Take all those extra two cent charges and give it to local governments to help pay for trash disposal. Either that or let postal customers "OPT OUT" of receiving junk mail. Better yet - DO BOTH! I don't want no junk mail. And charge political ads three times the first-class rate!

From the comments below, junk mail is the issue. I hate it, it fills my box up with things I don’t want. But the post office has a mandate to increase mail volume because of concern that there’s so little regular (ie first class) mail being sent now, to justify its infrastructure. So you take the junk mail away, it leaves it vulnerable to cuts and maybe move away from delivery six days a week. Postal employees don’t want that and the layoffs that would occur but also the businesses who send third class mail don’t want it, not to mention political campaigns. But “junk” mail is what drives volume and what makes the post office so big even today when things are done by email and bills are paid online.
