...my gold standard for the past 50 years has been the scale I bought in 1973 as part of the RCBS Ammo Crafter Kit an RCBS branded Ohaus micrometer adjustable balance beam scale

Can you beleive how accurate that thing is, it's like a toy.

I elevated my scale to center the lens of the camera, on my phone propped against the stand with the 0 marker. Turned off the auto shutoff feature, zoomed in and presto! No possible parallax errors and easy to see.

Just a tip sir, I noticed your ceiling fan running in the reflection of the window, with sensitive balance beam scales it helps to not have air blowing around the room as it can affect the accuracy of your powder charges.

You've demonstrated sensitivity not accuracy. The terms are not interchangeable.

Didnt think of it like that. Thank you.

The more I think of that the more correct you are.
@G5Hohn4 ай бұрын
Correct, but as reloaders we care much more about 1) consistency and 2) sensitivity than accuracy anyway. If you are loading on the same scale all the time, it really doesn't matter if it's 23.088gr or 29.946gr. What matters is that whatever mass is in that pan when the line is centered is always the same and that if it changes at all, the scale shows that. Having a very sensitive scale is a great thing. Having one that is very sensitive AND repeatable is the ultimate goal. Well, that and having it be fast, but we can't have fast, good AND affordable.

I just picked up an old RCBS balance beam scale at a Gun Show. It was a slightly different version (model 5-10) with a micrometer adjustment for the 0.1 to 0.9 grains. It was always measuring a bit low, even after adjusting the elevation foot on the left side. I ended up opening the bottom pan and removing one of the smallest lead beads so it zeros out. The bead was half the size of than your grain of powder. As someone else observed, you have a SENSITIVE scale... But what does it read when you put a 20 grain (or 50 grain) calibration weight in the pan? For example: If your scale reads between 19.9 and 20.1 grains, then I'll say you have an ACCURATE scale.

Why is your powder cup hanging at a weird angle. Bend the arm so it hangs level.

If I bend it. I will jack it all up. It will never be the same. :)

I got my .338 Ruger Precision Rifle down to a 1/4 m.o.a. 😁 The final key to it was a Steiner 5 MXI scope, but still got it there. It's all precision work.
