I think alot of Mash's interactions with Lancelot are a result of Galahad's personality bleeding through. She has hinted that she could feel Galahad's thoughts and emotions throughout the Camelot singularly
@eruantien99327 ай бұрын
We probably shouldn't be surprised at the parallels between them, given the mechanics behind demi/psuedoservants, but their backstories definitely resonate with one another. Galahad was basically abandoned by his parents (Elaine's fault, not Lancelot's), and then raised to be nothing more than a vessel of the faith, eventually becoming a knight in service to others; only then does he begin to get any actual recognition. Mash was just another disposable homonculus until the summoning actually worked, at which point she was raised to be a tool to facilitate post-rayshift summoning; only with the arrival of Romani does anyone begin to treat her as a person. And remember, Mash is about the same age during Arc 1 as Galahad was when he arrived at Camelot and finally met his father. So you've got Galahad's background resentment at Lancelot's absence, difficult to justify by the cold light of day as that may be, and then Mash mapping that onto her own experiences *and* meeting Lancelot "at the correct time". Mash is maturing rapidly during this time, remember how several crypters comment on how she never used to have much personality, but she's still learning just what all these emotions she's been burying all this time are. So it's not all that surprising that she tears into Lancelot over it; she's in an emotionally vulnerable state. And Lancelot, for his part, is visibly hurt by her words.

A few things: - Lancelot obsessive need to attack Artoria wasn't because he wanted to murder her, rather it was because he wished to be punished by her. You see, Lancelot in Fate is by far the most skilled knight of the round including Artoria. She wouldn't actually be able to beat even the Berzerker Lancelot unless he allowed her to win. - On Saber Lancelot's CE, while it does sound like he wants to end himself. He can't end himself by drowning as he'd also have Artoria's Blessing of the Lake, meaning he can't enter the lake in the first place. The way I see it, this was him taking one last time to spend in the fallen Kingdom he spent most his life protecting. This is reinforced by the last line of the CE being "Just a little while" which implys he'll leave eventually. This just seems like him discarding his life as a knight. - Richard the Lionheart won't be in FGO yet, there was a deal made with Strange Fake's writer that we won't get any servants from there 'till it's done. - On For Someone's Glory's ability to disguise Lancelot as someone else, Kirei made a comment about it in Fate/Zero if I recall. He said something about this being a skill befitting someone who betrayed someone. I don't remember exactly what was said though. This could also be seen as him somehow gaining access to Elain's ability to disguise herself as Gwenivere. Still wouldn't make alot of sense though.

Most of the characterization flaws come from OTHER characters misunderstanding Lancelot's behaviour in-universe rather than Lancelot himself. For example, the womanizer joke is more "everyone calls him and sees him as a womanizer", while Lancelot 99% of the time claims and behaves like the opposite. The other 1% being dubious writing (summer) and the misunderstanding applied to a same-face (the murder mystery event). Regarding Berserker, the raging rampage against Artoria is probably more fault of the Mad Enhancement skill rather than something naturally applied to his regret in all instances. The source of those feelings are there but how they're applied varies in each class.
@namoma49227 ай бұрын
It's not a misunderstanding. He does have those aspects. The fact he does have those does not mean he is not more than that. Even in Camelot, which is our introduction to his saber self, he does admit part of why he spared caster da Vinci is that she is a beautiful woman. This does not change the fact that he also was already conflicted with helping the lion king and had been harboring some refugees. Those two facts can coexist, especially when it took his son/daughter to finally push him over the edge and join our side His attitude as a berserker is madness enhancement at work, but people who know him all relate that mode of being to how they personally seen him(Gareth and Gawain in particular specifically recall the rescue of Guinevere, and Gareth dying as a result) which happened when he was alive. They are not imagining those traits, at worst they are exaggerating them, but they are real part of him. It doesn't make him a worthless, or only those things.
@saxor967 ай бұрын

I know the point is that it's kind of sexist to refer to Lancelot as a deadbeat because he got raped. But no one thinks Arturia as a man and the fanbase still pulls this joke as if it's funny too. I don't think it's funny, really gets Lancelot AND ESPECIALLY Arturia's characters wrong. But in a fucked up way- the fanbase is equal oppritunity here.

Knight of Owner came from the legend where Lancelot used a tree branch/stick to fend off and defeat an enemy attack. Whether it was a giant, a group of bandits/knights, or the renowned knight Phelot. Lancelot had been ambushed when he was out bathing in a lake, and thus did not have his sword with him. For Someone's Glory came from numerous legends where Lancelot would disguise himself as an anonymous knight whose identity was unknown to everyone, Lancelot took advantage of that by appearing randomly in King Arthur's court, performing amazing feats, and then fucking off while everyone was trying to figure out who he was Lancelot misuses Arondight's sword beam function because he instead chose to focus on Arondight's indestructible nature, hence why Arondight Overload became a thing. He intentionally continues to charge the sword's energy beam until he hits a target with it, unleashing all the stored energy into the blow. The magical energy that's stored and released covers the size of a lake, having the power of an Anti-Army. Lancelot is literally using an Anti-Army caliber attack on a single target to annihilate them. When used PROPERLY, Arondight's energy blast is extremely similar to Balmung's blast, a huge and powerful wave-like blast Lancelot was not made powerful because of the blessings he received from the Lady of the Lake, his foster mother, Lancelot was born a prodigy who was naturally extremely skilled in combat. According to Erice Utsumi's My Room line for Lancelot, he was a monster born with immense natural skill, who then honed his abilities even more by fighting in the harshest of battlefields There are several versions of Lancelot's battle with Gawain. Some of them where he stalled out Gawain from noon to dusk before swiftly defeating the Knight of the Sun, others where Lancelot outright defeated Gawain regardless of the sun's power boost. Tristan is the only other Knight of the Round Table to have defeated sun-boosted Gawain Even including Galahad, Lancelot is still regarded as the strongest of the Round Table, with competency and skill that outright surpasses King Arthur. Galahad is regarded as the "greatest" of the knights, but it does not necessarily mean that he was the strongest. Yes Galahad beat Lancelot in a duel when he first arrived in Camelot, but it doesn't mean that he was always going to beat the Knight of the Lake every time they fought. Galahad was the greatest and the perfect knight due to his extremely powerful will and his morals Yeah Lancelot was never actually a womanizer. He was always the one being chased by women, and Lancelot would always make it known that he only ever loved one woman Lancelot is at his strongest as a Saber. While Berserker has Mad Enhancement making his physical abilities stronger, he notably lacks many abilities that his Saber counterpart has access to, including several blessings that would make him even stronger, as well as lacking the focus to take full advantage of his skills. Knight of the Lake is an ability that boosts any of Saber's parameter except Luck, and that ability stacks with Arondight's parameter boosts. Saber Lancelot also has full access to Knight of Owner and For Someone's Glory, being able to use their abilities to their fullest. Not only that, unlike his Berserker form, Saber Lancelot's Knight of Owner and For Someone's Glory does NOT become sealed when he takes out Arondight, and can even use them altogether

In Post-Vulgate Mort Artu Lancelot is to one that killed mordred's sons The story it tells is that after Mordred had been killed and King Arthur had vanished, Mordred’s two sons appeared. Mordred had left them at Winchester when he went to battle King Arthur. They were both good knights. Leading the people of Winchester they begin to overrun the land, finding no-one capable of opposing them. News of this comes to Gaunes where Lancelot and his kinsmen are living. Bohort advises that he, Lionel, and Hector should summon their people and go to Great Britain to oppose Mordred’s two sons. With a host of more than 20,000, they cross the sea to Great Britain. The two sons of Mordred hear of Lancelot’s arrival and prepare to oppose him. They gain the sworn allegiance of most of the noblemen in Logres. Lancelot approaches the army of the two sons in a very bad mood, for he has just learned that Guenevere has died in a convent. The battle lasts until mid-afternoon, at which point, the elder son, Meleon (Mellehen, Melian) personally attacks King Lionel and pierces him with his lance, knocking Lionel down and mortally wounding him. King Bohort, seeing this, and knowing that his brother is mortally wounded, rides toward Meleon with his sword drawn and splits Meleon’s head down to his teeth. Now Lancelot enters the battle, meets Mordred’s younger son whom he recognizes because the younger son is wearing his father’s arms. The son flees, but Lancelot follows and strikes him so strongly on the neck that he severs his head. The men of Winchester now flee to save their lives, pursued by Lancelot and his knights.

I’m going to repeat what Red from OSP said at the end of her hades video as I feel it best describes how I and most feel about fgo Lancealot’s characterization, “if your going to criticize him for his faults at least be honest about what they were”. Cause im really am getting sick and tired of the dad jokes and the womenizing comments it’s not funny and it makes me dislike the other characters cause they won’t stop bringing it up but more so the fgo staff

I'm so glad to see this video. I had to watch it as soon as I saw it on my timeline. As a big fan of lancelot, it's disheartening to see the way the Fate franchise and fanbase treats him like some predator who can't keep his hands off married women and as a horrible father When you look at his stories and how much he fought to remain loyal to Guinevere, it is baffling how the FGO writers even came to that conclusion. The SA stuff is horrible as well; we even see the trauma that experiencing that caused him his year stay in the woods and the fact that these events are flaunted in his face as his failings, intentional or not, is messed up. Hopefully, more people will see this video so Lancelot's name may be saved. Awesome work! Clearly a lot of effort was put in! consider me subscribed!

So on the "For Someone's Glory" disguising him as someone else thing. This was accomplished by way of a Command Spell. So I took that as more a Skill Rank Up benefit from using what gets used in universe as 1 of 3 minor wishes you get to use on your Servant. Normally the NP wouldn't do that but with the extra boost from a Command Spell it takes his reputation for disguising himself as a nameless or even another knight and just... turns it into the ability to appear as another "Knight" fighting in the grail war he is in.

My best guess why Lancelot is a womanizer might be to try and get his mind away from Guinevere. He knows the chances of her being a Servant are wary low, let alone her ever being summoned, and his relationship with her caused nothing but issues. So he forces himself to act as a womanizer maybe to get his mind off of her. But thats just headcanon. As fore Mash calling him a deadbeat dad, I write that off as her utterly misunderstanding the legend, maybe having read a faulty version of it. Ore maybe hes a deadbeat because at the end he was majorly responsible fore Camelots downfall but either way knowing the full context...fuck I REALY hate that joke now

@@CrazyYurie well galahad was introduced when The Church put its hands into the story of the round table. They basically made knight Jesus, except without all the awesome lessons and philosophical concepts Jesus gives out. Is it possible that "Yankee" is supposed to be "Yanki"? Yanki were a type of Japanese Delinquent that was known for wearing a pompadour. If you're familiar with Jojo, Josuke would be considered a Yanki As someone who has a hobby of making servant sheets for pop culture characters, I kinda wish Knight of Owner was a Generic skill. Context: 3:33 I think the translation is off and would be: “(Berserkerlot should have) The aura of a yankee/delinquent who’s in shame/repenting for cutting off his hair.” A “yankee” in Japanese culture is seen as some forms as a “delinquent” The hair part is Japanese, culture-wise, the belief of cutting off your hair, is believed to be what one would be when they’re banished. As of a more modern age, this belief is now to start again. The Yankee ideal stays in line with their hair, the pompadours that are very very much their lifelines. Who they are, it’s their sign as a family, cutting it off would feel very much like being outcasted from the gang and feeling shame.

The basis in the Lore for Lancelot being a Berserker you brought up are pretty niche episode usually not in modern depiction. An important factor in Fate/Zero you didn't bring up is Zouken messing with the summoning spell. In my interpretation of Fate/Zero both as a stand alone story and as a prequel to Stay Night Lancelot was not actually supposed to be eligible to be a Berserker. The Tragic Irony is supposed to be Artoria thinking his madness vindicates Iskandar's criticism of how she ruled when it was all Zouken's doing. That's the thing though, the Fanbase loves to just uncritical view Iskandar as completely right, missing the rather obvious fact that the ideology he's espousing is essentially Fascism, Thomas Carlyle's Heroarchy in it's purest form.

Thx to make this video. Imo he is one of the most misunderstood character in Fate, even by the devs. He is technically a r*pe victim, yet potrayed in FGO as womanizer. I hope summer 8 did justice to his character, but i can't read JP (if anyone can & read it, pls spoile me). Also combat wise, I really like he is in modern term is pretty much "Super Soldier". The ability to disguise to any person while having the ability to manipulate his own stat (even luck) & turn any object into useable pseudo np is brokenly versatile to adapt to many situation. In war, he will easily infiltrate enemy defense line & eat the whole army like breakfast. Again he deserve better, even in Camelot he has the chance to redeem his character but it was written in unsatisfying ending. Also in Fate his relationship with Guinevere is fellow Artoria simps. It's only because Guinevere romantically frustated with Artoria (they both aren't gay) it's just didn't work and love grow between fellow simp. If not for the kingdom & artoria strict law, she will allow Guinevere to find happiness with other man.

i think the comment about saber lancelot being a yankee who repented by cutting off his hair refers to japanese yankees! some young men, especially yankees, will wear their hair long and then cut it once they start looking for a job, as them cutting their hair shows that theyre taking responsibility for themselves as adults.

Portraying Lancelot as a womanizer is not out of the ordinary for Lancelot from an IRL lore perspective. It might not be particularly well written in FGO, but that's not what you're trying to measure here. In Lanzelet, Lancelot goes around killing a bunch of girls' older male guardians while proceeding to marry them. Ironically in Lanzelet, he doesn't mess around with Guinevere. I don't see how lancelot being suicidal is a problem in terms of irl lore accuracy. Le morte has Lancelot after Guinevere's death, constantly grovel by Guinevere and Arthur's grave refusing to eat much until he starves to death. Sounds pretty death seeking to me.
