Last tweek, after seeing everyone, Vince and staff in gorilla, I’d have a glitch of Fiends sitting as Vince and staff laughing, smiling then just a glass break of Fiend releasing Cena to normalcy. Then once again to normal Cena he’s Confused John when his music hits, boos, title in hand, what’s this? Questioning himself of where am I? He sees he’s at mania. Shrugs shoulder and says well I guess I’m defending the title at mania and you give Big match John firing on all cylinders vs Seth Rollins to carry company. That way Monday after mania is ,”Idk what came over me, got title, gave my best, some not proud of, blah blah. Want some come get some Goodbye.”

This was great, REALLY great, especially since I'm one of those staunch, loyal Cena haters lol,, but I still can get really behind this (even though, yes, I feel he shouldn't break Flairs record)...but wouldnt it make sense to have Cena face the Fiend at some point, perhaps even his match at WM 39, since he was the one to "change" him?

Surprised The Fiend didn't play a role at the end somehow, giving further storyline context towards Cena's entire year of heeling due to the prior year of Firefly Funhouse seclusion
@ArcaneAzmadi3 жыл бұрын
I think he didn't want to make it seem like the Fiend "made" Cena turn heel, like he was brainwashing him or anything. The Firefly Funhouse match just made Cena confront the truth that the Fiend revealed to him- that he's ALWAYS been a heel, and now he just has to live with it.

As this is the conclusion of his whole career of two decades, it doesn't feel appropriate or necessary to tie it to the Fiend shenanigans imo
@js10313 жыл бұрын
The Fiend basically acted as a mirror to Cena. Once John began spiraling, being unable to accept the truth, The Fiend's job was done. He didn't turn Cena heel. He just forced the man to have a good, long, think about his life choices.

Can we just talk about that Ending though!!! That retirement speech gave me shades of Kobe’s retirement. Yet instead of “Mamba Out”, we got Johns “You Can’t See Me” and just... *1 Million Chefs Kisses*

Absolutely brilliant, turning Cena heel mostly without turning him heel would be the way to make this work now.
@yami29573 жыл бұрын
Ngl man, I really felt it at that final speech. I imagined it with John Cena's voice and I gotta say, I'll miss that guy when he does retire. Say what you will about him, but he carried the company on his back for a long time. He deserves to be called one of the greatest of all time.
@NDTexan3 жыл бұрын
I can dig this. To be honest I never thought a proper heel turn for Cena should be as obvious as most heel turns. It should be somewhat vague and should involve Cena thinking what he's doing is right and best for the company and that he is still the good guy. Feeds in perfectly to that whole meta re-examination from the match with the fiend. Frankly good guys and bad guys are often a lot more gray than people would like to admit and I think this would be a lot more accurate with his character through the years
@arashitendou59413 жыл бұрын
Especially since examination of his passed actions can paint that kinda light on him Cena felt he was being the nice and good guy by backing Zack and helping him get one last shot at the US Title But instead long term he got embarrassed, lost his title, girlfriend, and was constantly attacked by Kane Cena thought he was doing the right thing by letting Bryan be his opponent to win the WWE title from him But instead he blames his injured arm, adding the conclusion he only lost cause he went in basically with only one arm, and left whilst leaving Bryan to be on his own against the Authority He thought he was helping the locker room by getting rid of the Authority after Survivor Series but they still tormented his team before and after the PPV I see it like he’s Zack Synder’s Man of Steel: thinks he’s doing the right thing but kinda ignoring the collateral damage he’s continually causing

I know this is a late reply, hell on KZbin a one year comment is practically a necropost, but for me it was the “I will miss you- even those of you who have never liked me. I-I always tried my best to entertain you. I really did try” As someone who has creative aspirations but isn’t sure what idea to go with, this feels like something I can hear myself saying.

This was genuinely brilliant storytelling. Cenas slight change in those negatives of his personal coming to light in kayfabe is a brilliant way to show change cause of the Fiend. Also it's a heel turn that isn't a full blown heel turn, it's a character arcs that can draw heat but still have him retain a fair bit of support. Playing that sort of heel-ish role while believing he's the face is something Cena can do and has done before in his feud with pipe bomb punk. Also if WWE are all in on Drew being their next big face to carry the company vs heel superstar Reigns, then Cena ending his title reign by putting him over would be massive for him.

Love him or hate him, the man has been such an iconic WWE guy that its almost impossible to ask a non wrestling fan to name a wrestler and them not have John Cena in their list. And hearing those last moments and the retirement speech, you can't help but realise that he may not want to break the record, but he has earned it.
