Reverse thrust is a very expensive and inefficient way to make a plane go backwards. Using a pushback tractor means the engines can be started later and fuel can be saved until pushback is complete.

skr Nicks planes can use their reverse thrusts to back up from a gate. There are videos on KZbin. They usually don't do it anymore because it uses tons of fuel.
