I've been flying Hawaiian Air for over 30 yrs, they do have their ups and downs, and mostly their downs, and they were going downhill for some time now. I flew Alaska several times and never had a problem. Hopefully the merger will make Hawaiian stronger so they can provide decent service to their customers.

u/wellnow13 • 1d Peter Ingram's legacy??? After 94 years of Hawaiian independence and Hawaii owned, Peter Ingram has managed to do something that was never intended....lose the company made great by the people of Hawaii. His ONLY legacy is that he failed as CEO to bring HA back to greatness. What a shame, and he has lost the respect of the employees, as well as forgetting Malama, Lokahi, Pookela, Hookipa, and Aloha. Like the Alaska Airlines CEO said, "there can't be 2 CEOs".

Good bye Hawaiian air, you will be missed. If you think Hawaiian will remain, ask Virgin America how that worked out.

Couldn’t be more different situations. As I have said on other posts, Virgin America didn’t own the Virgin name. It was leased from Branson so to keep it Alaska would have had to pay millions a year just to keep the name. With Hawaiian, the airline owns the brand so when the purchase is complete, Alaska will own the brand and can/will use it at no additional cost and retain the loyalty of the Hawaiian people.

Having a whopping $900 million in debt, Hawaii is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. It's clear that the current situation is precarious, and those jobs might not be as secure as we hope. Considering these circumstances, I firmly believe that the merger with Alaska Airlines presents a far more promising and viable option for the future.

Hawaiian lost me as a customer. Alaska is that bad that I refuse to fly anything they put their hands on.

Just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean they are not a great airline. They continue to be in the top five US airlines all the way back to 2010 (which is far back as I bothered to look) and I believe over 10 of those were at #1. This will be a great merger for all involved.

The Virgin America merger isn't the same as this merger... The VX merger had different context to it, that most outlets NEVER seem to talk about. VX would not be around today in general because they were gonna be bought by either Jetblue or Delta, at that time... You think either one of those carriers would've kept the VX brand?

Nobody would have kept the Virgin brand because Virgin America didn’t own it. They leased the brand from Richard Branson and no one was going to keep paying him millions each year just for the name. When Alaska buys Hawaiian it will own the Hawaiian brand so there is no reason not to use it and huge loyalty to continue using it but slightly adjusted to “Hawaiian” and in small print “by Alaska Airlines”

This is total BS. Alaska will close the Hawaiian HQ within a year or two and lay everyone off. The ticket counters will be condensed to Alaska and more layoffs will follow. This a shame. The legendary Hawaiian Service will be gone.

I don't think so, the brand has a lot of value and marketing Alaska airlines as the gateway to Hawaii to the orient would make no sense at all. Air France/KLM manages to pull off that one airline with two brands just fine and I see the same sort of future for Alaska/Hawaiian. Besides it beats Hawaiian be absorbed into American, United or Delta which you know would have happened if Alaska had not stepped in.
