And as a result, there was a lot of destruction and boycotting of Toyota cars in the U.S., and ultimately the downfall of Detroit. Toyota is like a symbol of the economic war that took place between the U.S. and Japan in the 70s and 80s. So for Americans, especially Boomers, Toyota is a company they hate and will never forget.
