Hi there, the Pink Velour does indeed look like a cracker ... unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available in the UK yet... hope that changes soon... not sure how varieties are introduced into the UK (i'm guessing the plants must go into a trial before being certified and made available to the general public). Thanks for sharing

Hello Beckey, Lots of good Salvias, we particularly like the Leucantha types. Should have a new Video on Salvia varieties in a few months. Agastache are another species we like.

We have Hot Lips, managed to divide it and now we have 2. Didn’t do anything major when potted and went mad when we put it in the ground. Thanks for the tips.

Johnny, as you know I am in Melbourne and despite the cool spring, the salvias in the front garden have gone nuts. They grow huge and flower profusely and I've had to cut them all back twice so far, with copious regrowing and blooming madly each time I prune. I don't know what to do. The only two varieties I have in the garden this year are Love and Wishes and Salvia Amistad. The Amistad plants sprawl everywhere and start flopping over and the Love and Wishes flowers grow taller and taller. and start looking straggly quite quickly. The bees haven't gone for the salvias much this season, surprisingly, preferring other favourites such as Geranium Rozanne and Penstemon (varieties Evelyn and Pink). I water the garden plenty and use Sudden Impact for Roses on the salvias so could this be the problem? Maybe I should thin each plant to three stems at the base? Do you know a slow growing, small salvia? I gave up Salvia Anthony Parker after last summer/autumn as it took over the garden over summer and autumn.

Our 'Best Behaved' is S.Leucantha Pink Velour', it stays in a tight clump, fairly upright and around 1m in height, it will spread over time, however easy to contain. We thin it each year much as you suggest. Most of the others get a bit out of control, have actually used hedge trimmers mid summer a few times...... However, masses of flowers and they attract bees and birds. The Sudden Impact would be giving them a boost, we don't fertilise ours at all. Working on a new video on Salvia varieties at present should be done in a few months. Agastache are also worth looking at we have Sweet Lili, behaves itself fairly well. Other small varieties are Littae, Bethellii, Black n’ Blue, Polystachya and Miniata all said to be small , however we don't grow them,

@@johnnyAGardening Thanks for your advice. I will look for "Pink Velour" and meanwhile keep the hedge trimmers handy. I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year break. :)
