I always thought the most brilliant manager in tactics were Pep and Jose until i look at this repeatedly and what he did in Spurs. Conte is really a mastermind in itself. He actually employs a bit of similar tactics in Spurs wih some Pep level tweaking. The back three of Davies-Dier-Romero operates much different in this Inter strategy, with Davies and Romero being more adventurous. Dier was the less technical of the three, but his experience and leadership made the two better at defending, particularly the more techincal but hotheaded Romero. This would cause imbalance in the defence, but they defended more compact in 5-4-1, minimizing mistakes. The solid defending also meant that defensive-challenged wingbacks like Reguilon and Doherty can push higher. The work rate is crucial in this. Hojberg/Skipp, Bentancur, Romero, Reguilon, and even the forwards tracking back is necessary. Conte also have better quality in forwards in Spurs with Kane/Kulu/Son combined, so the midfield is more conservative and he rely more on the wing quality in Reguilon, Doherty, and even Emerson Royal. Kane, Son, and Kulu are especially good under him. Son play less and less on the wing and went center, causing confusion to the opposition defence. If they went for Kane, Son's speed and Kane's vision will attack the space and since he's as good as Kane in finishing, he will be a threat. If they close Son down, Kane will be free and it will be a risk if Kulu ran through narrow spaces, and if they close down Kulu, they would also risk a lot because of his vision and chemistry with two other forwards. Conte managed to do this by considering the virtue and shortcomings of his squad. It takes a lot for a coach to do that, seriously. Just look at Villa for example, they buy like 3-4 good players by robbing Man City for Grealish and loan one world class one (Coutinho) and still they don't really improve that much even under Gerrard. Conte combines Son's knack of space-finding and finishing, Kulu's versatility, Kane's vision, Dier's leadership, Romero's aggresivity, Hojeberg's workrate, and Doherty's attacking instinct to make THAT team competitive. I could imagine if he was backed with Chelsea, Inter, and now Spurs, what he'd do.

@@paulrounding5260 Yeah, he's doing that because he has Dier, Davies, and Lenglet at the back. When your backline is stable, midfielders would take risk more going ahead. Conte's system needs a solid wingback and reliable CBs, probably that could playmake as well (like Laporte, Luiz). If you see his recent successes with Chelsea and Inter, that was what he had. Conte's tactics is basically a quick verticality. You can't do this if your backline aren't confident with the ball or their passing are sub-par and not to mention, sucks in defending.

They are pretty much a one dimensional team , they lost many points on the second half of the last season because they became predictable but still Conte was persistent to keep on using the same system . Moreover players including the likes of Skriniar and Erikson really struggled in this system he is using

Konte downgraded Inter actualy. As huge Inter fan I must admit that. Inter's amazing transfers changed Inter a bit, even they've been stuck with one- side minded Konte. I mean, not even Mourinho didn't manage to get players like this clown get. He is very predictable guy, you just need to mark a player which care the ball out(usualy Brozovic) and he is done. He lost cup semifinal against Napoli and Napoli won it later. Juve has their lovest quality in last 10 year, and he didn't manage to punish that. Not to mention that he gave Perisic, Naingolan, Icardi etc away. He does not understand the game and changes especially, he kept Gagliardini for 75min in the final against Seville and same players make a non reasonable foul which lead to wining goal. One side minded coach let me tell you we have not played in 3-5-2 position for like forever and it was his first season, players are bound to adapt to it heck even Godin adapted at the end of the season. Losing to Napoli was because we could not finish our chances and players are still injured. Juve lowest quality still has better benches than ours they got like Bernadeschi Rabiot while we stuck with Vecino Borja Valero Candreva bruh. Sevilla one was unfortunate if you wanted to blame you could also blame Lukaku for not putting the goal away where we could have went 3-2 on them instead of chasing behind.
