I was thinking about this exact setup! Then I realized I had a $200 budget. I settled on a second-hand 2017 macbook thing with a messed up backlight. Believe it or not, it actually does everything and more. I'm happy with my sad little laptop.

Great video. I agree about not having anxiety or social embarrassment using it in public. Laptops were weird when they first appeared out in the wild too. To be honest, some people embarrass themselves no matter what piece of tech they use. They still haven’t figured out the do’s and don’ts of phone etiquette. I think I would be more afraid of breaking it or theft.
@DingleBerryschnapps10 ай бұрын
No laptops were not weird when they came out. People alive then knew what a word processor was and a laptop was just a step above that. These on the other hand are unnecessary and ridiculous. I think it's funny that some think people will be wearing these in public. Yeah sure you're seeing that now, because the thieves haven't caught on yet. Having said that how many people have you seen bringing their laptops out in public anymore? Exactly. I don't even spend that much time on my devices that I would need to strap it to my head. My goal is to be more present in the world around me. Not always plugged in like I'm in The Matrix.

Pro tip with buying a third party portable charger; its not just about wattage. The Apple battery pack dishes out something around 12-13 volts, which most portable chargers wont do. Pay attention to this if you want to know what your experience will be like.

Is the Apple Vision travel case bigger than 3rd party cases? It looks huge. Too huge to fit in a backpack simultaneously with a MacBook. Images of 3rd party cases look smaller, but those are just images so I don't know what to expect from the actual product. Looks pretty tight inside of the Apple case.

Do you get used to foveated rendering/sharpness only at the things you're looking at? I've done the demo a couple of times, and am concerned that would be frustrating, but not sure if it's just something that you get desensitized to.
@westmcgee932010 ай бұрын
Maybe there’s context I’m missing, not having watched the whole video yet but… By-definition its intent is to go unnoticed. Why would you need to adjust to it outside of screen capturing?
@hummersd10 ай бұрын
@@westmcgee9320 -- Very possible -- during the demos, I noticed the periphery was blurry and dark, which came to find out from other video reviews that that's to be expected. I think adding that plus the foveated rendering makes it seem like a whole lot is blurry. I'm curious if that's something one gets used to with use (like a complete non-issue after a while), or if I'll notice it so much that after several weeks I won't be able to stand it, and then it's too late to return (which I definitely will do more demos before buying to avoid that situation).
@westmcgee932010 ай бұрын
@@hummersd maybe you’ve got some wider field of view or something that makes you able to see more than what they’ve rendered for you. Or maybe that you’re one/those were defective in some way. Including certainly see that being correctable via software update. I can only tell you that I do not perceive the FR at all. I’ve had nothing to get used to.

Great setup video. As someone who’s Vision Pro arrives in a matter of hours, and doesn’t have a MacBook, Apple needs to stop making this thing be like a peripheral for a MacBook (or vica versa) and bring Pro level apps to the AVP itself. It’s easily capable of running them. They have done the same with iPad Pro. I have a monster iPad, with an M4 chip, and yet, all the apps I can get for it, will run on the least powerful iPad. Better apps, and/or letting yo connect to iPad (like you can a MacBook) are things I hope are coming to this thing, or it will end up not being used.

Yall really need to try it before forming an opinion on it, just did a quick easy demo at the Apple Store and it’s incredible, if you’re passionate about the technology and get to experience before you drop a heavy some on that thing. Just knowing this thing is the worst this thing will ever be, there needs some obvious improvements (camera pass through 🤮, and the weight 😬) it’s an incredible piece of tech but definitely not for everyone

You bought the expensive case but the dirt cheap, lower grade Vision Pro? Who in their right mind gets the $3,500 version?? I have individual apps that take up more space than what your Vision Pro can hold. Just get the 1TB version. Doesn’t cost much more and it’s got much more storage.
@RogerZoul10 ай бұрын
That Apple case looks like a pillow. And a white one at that. Dirt magnet. Not buying it. :) i'm waiting on the Spigen, unless I can find a smaller one. Some of these are just too big to be called portable.

@DingleBerryschnapps10 ай бұрын
It's a novelty product and barely anyone has it, and barely anyone is going to buy it. The hype is coming from 3 types of people. The reviewers that got it for free. The early adopters that can't return it. So they are promoting it to make themselves feel better and get other people to buy it, because misery loves company. The third type of person is the noob that is easily dazzled by the hype around new tech. These are the types that often regret their purchases but they don't have the critical thinking skills to figure it out before they make a purchase. These people will say "I want this so bad" and argue with people over it, even though they don't own it yet.

Since his setup was based only on AVP, an iPad plus a portable monitor would have been able to do what he does more efficiently and costing less than half the price with a maxed out iPad Pro. I like AVP, it is an interesting proposition but still lacks real benefits compatible with its price range. For now it is a nice gimmick
