I think we need to pass a law that states that a "terms of service agreement" cannot exceed 1000 words. They're deliberately long and complicated to _prevent_ people from reading them, knowing that people will agree to them anyway. It's one more example of corporate entities and our legal system preying on human weakness. It's beneath us.

Or use standardization like MIT licence or creative common licence.

***** True, many companies are making them a bit better, but they are still prohibitively long, and they know full well that most people in this society have neither the patience nor interest to read them, even if they are able to understand them.

Some good apps in regards to privacy: Ghostery Browser for Android, and maybe iPhone. There's also a Ghostery extension for Chrome, which disables trackers! Find out more about it by downloading it! D-Vasive by John McAfee for Android, and maybe iPhone (Lets you know when certain phone features like Camera, Wifi, Mic are being used by you OR YOUR apps) HTTP Everywhere for Chrome (for extra encryption) Ad Control by Ghostery for Android (Limit SOME tracking in Android to SOME extent! Very significant) App Ops (Limit or remove certain permissions for apps, but be very careful, please~ This could easily backfire) Preference Manager, needs root for Android ( Modify more permissions on apps!) Orbot / Orweb ( From the creators of Tor! Browse anonymously in the web! I think there also may be a VPN feature for phone and apps)

Part of the problem stems from how permissions on major mobile OSes are implemented. If you grant permission for one thing it enables several broad permissions and the fact there's no default firewall to block individual apps and types of activity.
@spiritualcelebs9 жыл бұрын
***** I think what he means is that for example when you give an app permission to connect or post to facebook it may also be requesting access to your friend list, and all of the data you have access to about your friends - things they have liked, posts, birthdays, contact details and other info that you have access to on Facebook. Just by connecting to another network - you are giving permission depending on the app to read or access a lot of data - the app "sees" what you see- it's basically listening in.
@Patchuchan9 жыл бұрын
spiritualcelebs I was going to answer but that's pretty much the issue. The reason why is a lot of app companies make money from advertisers and those advertising companies want as detailed information as they can get thinking it'll get them more sales.
@danif6203 жыл бұрын
6 years later. We are much better when it comes to permissions. It's not that you download an app anymore and it have every single permission already. Thank God. We still have a long way to go.

ashley beaumont nothing besides the fact that they now have all your data and can use your data against you, therefore your 'privacy' isnt really as private as you think if its being shared between companies and apps.....other than that, nothing i guess

Did you even watch the video? Ok we get it you don't care about privacy, probably because you're just a teenage girl, but when you grow up everything you ever googled, every KZbin video you watched, every site you entered could be used against you. It can be used against you in getting a job, blackmail, or even to convict you of charges in court. Imagine if you searched for good cooking knives and somebody is murderd and you're one of the suspect, your fair trial is out the window once they see your history that spans years.

robbbyyy25 hbk711x +Will R It's funny how you guys think apps and websites should be free and without Ads. How are developers and content providers gonna make money? Imagine yourself on the other side of the coin. If you don't want advertisements, BUY the paid version of the app and stop using Ad-blocking apps.

We could flip this and simply play with the advertisers. If everybody just clicked on adverts it would cost them tons of money, for example if you see a Nike advert and you click the link that's cost Nike money, if everybody just started mass clicking adverts these company's wouldn't know where they stood with the consumers

@Ramkkingk you dont really need to if you only download famous apps, you can download an antivirus for viruses, or a privacy advisor for app permissions.

@@0cards0 yea!give your data to an anti virus that barely works because most of the apps has something called "malware" and an anti virus app on mobile won't track them because it can't!Good idea!

You can actually google search what a certain permission would be needed for in android. A lot of API's are bundled together into groups and may look like your giving permission for one thing when in reality you are granting another. The link below demonstrate all of the permission groups. It is sometimes more of the fault of the operating system then it is the developer. But then again this does also make their jobs a lot easier. It is more of an ethics debate than a programming one. The uneducated end user just assumes the worst case scenario but for good reason I guess. support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6014972?p=app_permissions&rd=1
