3/10 overall is ridiculous but imo if you were to split the ratings into subcategories, the writing would be a solid 3/10. the visuals music and voice actor performances did a lot to keep it all together

@@brian0057 Reviews on IMDb somehow rank S2 a lot higher than S1, with ep. 6 getting a 9.8 out of 10 and ep. 7 a 9.7. No episode got anything below 9. Rotten tomatoes ranks S1 at 96% and S2 at 89%. Safe to say most people liked it. From what I've seen, those who didn't like it either: 1) wanted to feel superior by criticizing a widely popular series with the most ridiculous of nitpicks, or 2) wanted the series and characters to develop in a specific way instead of letting the writers take us along for the ride and see were it got us, and they didn't get their way so now it somehow sucks

The complaints about Isha are a little dumb imo because you're not forced to have feelings for her (her death didn't impact me on a super emotional level), but the impact she has on Jinx is really interesting to watch. So what if she is just a plot device? She's a fantastic plot device; she's there to prove that Jinx can change, and I love the direction they went with it.
@Pelerin98510 күн бұрын
Me too. I figured out quite soon she was going out few episodes later, but she was a great tool for Jinx emotional and personal growth as a character
@krashme99710 күн бұрын
Agreed. Isha might be a plot device, but what's the harm? She's there for a reason, and it works. Jinx has always had a child-like mind, and as with any child, she's going to be very easy to influence by those around her rather than by a cause like Jayce, Viktor, or Silco. First, Vi made Powder and then kickstarted Jinx, Silco developed Jinx and tried to bury Powder, and within the vaccum his death left, Isha brought out Powder again because she mirrored what Powder always wanted to be and put Jinx in the role of a big sister. With that in mind, it's not hard to understand why Jinx matured and got more responsible. Powder always "wanted to help", and Jinx slowly reconciled with that side of her personality.

We also have to consider that Arcane was originally planned to span across like 5-6 seasons. But because that was deemed too ambitious they had to somehow cram all the rest into the second season which is why some plot points felt rushed. It's honestly impressive what they managed to achieve even under those conditions. Unfortunately it forced them to cut corners on some story aspects. Isha likely would've been far more if the full vision of the show had come to fruition.

@BrutalSalamander1 I don't recall ever hearing the creators say that they had written 5 seasons of content, just that multiple seasons had been considered at an early stage, but was then revised to 2 soon after. I truly and honestly think that Arcane would of done better if they had the time to make a longer season to flesh out all the ideas they had for the story. Sure, you have gay anime (usually targeted at women, not at the type of people it's actually depicting), you have lesbian anime (usually targeted at men, not at the type of people it's actually depicting), and you have anime with gender-nonconforming characters (usually depicted as the punchline of a joke) but um... that's not what diversity is. Mainstream "popular" anime series rarely have properly developed characters that I would call "diverse." Key words here being "properly developed."

There doesn't have to be a conspiracy-agenda when a writer is too preachy about their "morals". Some writers are just bad at writing and it has more to do with bad skill than society as a whole. You'd know this if you've ever tried writing a book like I have. My only gripe with the series is that I think the final episode should've been split into a three-part finale special to really give the various intermingling subplots in it time to breathe. That or, have the conflict against Ambessa be the focal point of S2 and Viktor's "Glorious Evolution" be the focal point of a 3rd & final season (this would even allow a lot of subplots in S2 more time to breathe). The show's still pretty good as is though, but that's really my only gripes. Oh, and something to add... notice how at least most (if not a lot) of the YT channels dedicated to "wokespotting" (if you will) didn't target Arcane? Heck, there's a ton of them that even praised Arcane.

I always thought it was strange for no Anti-woke youtuber to make no videos on Arcane. The truth is that they would have been estén alive, since the show was do good. They only make videos on bad movies to gain some audience by dumping on them, since they're easy targets, but the moment a "good woke" show comes along, they avoid it like the plagued or act as if it was actually "Anti woke" all along. They did this with the Mario movie. They hated on it and called it woke but as soon as the movie came out, they twisted their narrative, because they can't deal with something being woke and good at the same time. Pretty sad really.

Nothing feels forced to check a bullet point and the writing makes all these characters feel unapologetically honest and authentic. The Black characters feel very Black in a culturally honest way, but never once is it mentioned or brought up in dialogue. The romantic dynamics are organic and not only feel earned when we see them blossom, but aren’t footnoted. We see the struggles loving someone brings without superficial situations curating them. The dichotomy between Piltover and Zaun isn’t just realistic but it’s authentic in how the various leaders are motivated to maintain or disrupt the status quo. The hopelessness and despair that pushes one to take lives, including their own, is showcased purely in such great character narratives that by the time we get there we think “yeah, someone in their situation would very likely cope that way or choose that answer, even if it’s right or wrong.” The show gives us time to really understand every facet of these characters and the dynamics between them in a real and organic way. No need to virtue signal when all their actions are believable and yet speak louder than any words. Arcane is a premium example of what majority people actually are saying: They approve of diversity and inclusion, but no one wants it forced and shoved down their throats by people who don’t actually care. We want provocative art that stimulates thought, not controversial advertisements meant to lecture.

And parisians are not like normal people, or normal french for that matter. if you push them too far, they burn stuff, prefferably cars for some weird reason... anyway, not the point, having people involved that see all this as really old news and know how to deal with it, should have helped considerably. Then there is the german guy who worked on TV shows in germany that existed on that fine line always in danger to go too far, the guy knows how to be subtile. there are many factors but you can sum it all up into, they are not hollywood and they are not into making a quick buck through controversy.

That's how the majority of gay people are and that's the kind of representation we want and need. Sadly most shows with gay main characters are forced to centre their entire identity on being a gay love story. If the protagonists happen to be gay & in love, the show is automatically categorized as Boys / Girls Love. An example of this is Yuri on Ice. The reason why the kissing scene was hidden by an arm was because of the strict guidelines of Japanese TV. Had the kiss not been censored, it would've been categorized as BL and not as a sports anime. The gay relationships in Arcane were censored in multiple countries, like China. You should Google it, it's really funny seeing Cait & Vi leaning their heads on nothing. 😂 So maybe what we need is more understanding & tolerance and less stereotypes. It sucks, 3/10. If S1 never happened it could've been an averagely-bad-2024 show. With S1, its far below that. Only BioWare's writing was worse, but here it was your own fault if you had any expectations.

Objectively? You're wrong. Subjectively? It's your opinion, but a terrible one at that. Sounds more like a frustrated tantrum from a child that didn't get what they wanted rather than a review tbh.

To each their own. I loved it and thought it was every bit the equal of the first half of the story. Sorry you got too distracted by spectacle and couldn't follow any of the plot or character beats, I guess?

No no no no, you way to try and define anime sucks ass. Anime is defined by the art style of the series resembling or imitating manga style drawing or visuals. Aka, the characters and the art style look as if they came from manga. That is what anime is. That’s why we call some Chinese animation anime, because it looks like manga. That’s why we can debatably call avatar the last air bender anime sometimes, because the art style and expressions of the characters resemble manga.

Donghua is not anime

Anime is not an art style it’s just cartoons from Japan. doraemon and panty & stocking are anime that don’t have that typical anime look or storylines. Avatar is a cartoon made by Americans animated mostly in Korea grouped with other Nickelodeon cartoons like sponge bob and fairy odd parents.

@Mialikesthingsthis. China doesn’t even call their animation anime. They have their own Chinese word for animation.
@alejandrovallejo43307 күн бұрын
@Mialikesthings no idea what that is, but if it looks like manga it’s anime, like it or not.

@@guesta9822 I didn't say anime was an artstyle. Manga is the art style characteristic of what we call anime. In respect to Doraemon and Panty & Stocking they do have anime characteristics, mainly big eyes and triangle nose. But ok, lets say they don't fit the definition and we can consider them anime. Doesn't matter, you can find exceptions in every definition, what matters is which definition is best. I never said otherwise about Avatar. So what if it's drawn by americans? Doesn't matter, what matters is the art style and animation style, among maybe other things for it to be considered anime. I don't see what point you think you are making here since this is irrelevant. If Death Note was made by Nickelodeon by that same team, but still looked like it does it would still be anime regardless.

Jinx isn't strong by any metric, she's deeply deranged and dependent on others. Vander and Ekko are definitely strong men.
