4seasons have been my absolute go to tyre for over 12 years or more. Never a puncture and I ride some pretty crappy roads. My GP 4000’s, back in the day, only lasted a couple of hundred kms ( for example ). To be honest, it’s hard to tell the difference and after a week or so, you don’t notice or care anyway. My Strava times don’t lie and there’s little difference at all. Plus I’m not elite athlete. So I’ll pick grip and reliability every time. You will never regret these tyres.

The grip in the cold and wet is so much better with the 4 seasons. They are still a performance tyre, so durability is not great. Gatorskins are very durable and don't puncture easily, but they are slippery in the wet.

Hi Fed, I've used the 4 seasons for many years during Spring, Summer & Autumn on the Sussex, Surrey & Kent lanes - a brilliant all round tyre with good road feedback, they also give me confidence when cornering etc. I use Gator Hardshells in the deep winter & I find these give absolutely no road feedback & make the ride feel dead compared to the 4 Seasons, they also give me plenty of squeaky bum moments as I find them slippy, not grippy! I've had to purchase GP5000's for my best bike as it's easier to buy hens teeth than it 4 seasons at the moment & those who do stock them are ridiculously overpricing them. Anyway, ride safe & keep up the good work! Cheers.

Hi Fed. I have used the gp5000 on 3 bikes but I think the 4 season is the way to go now I am not racing. It lasts longer and is pretty much the tire i am after on group rides! It doesn´t really lack speed, unless you are looking for marginal gains, and it last way longer on crappy surfaces. It is still a pretty rapid road tire.

Hi Fede Best winter, or 4 seasons, tyres are in my opinion Vittoria Corsa Control TLT. I use 30 mm size and here in Oxfordshire where the quality of B road is not excellent, mostly dirty and full of debris, they grip and feel absolutely safe in corners. The resistance is really low compared to other tyres. Tubeless ready, got a punture in one year of usage, self repaired by the sealant, back home thanks to liners. Having carbon wheels, following the motto better safe than sorry, installed Vittoria liners for road tyres. Tricky installation but they area really brilliant if you suffer a puncture. Thanks for your videos! Enjoy cycling

I've had incredibly good luck with the Bontrager AW2 over the years, but they're no longer available...damn. Extremely few flats, light, pliable, high compliance and relatively easy to get on and off my older Mavic A319 rims. I do large amounts of back-road riding here in Canada as well as asphalt. Last time I checked, the AW3 was not in stock, on a ship somewhere coming from overseas. I'll try one when available, then match it on the rear if I like it.

I do still have a set of these on a spare set of wheels, but tbh rarely use them now since putting 28mm GP5000 TL on my main wheels. The spare wheels only get used if it's really windy now for the shallower rims rather than the tyres. Those tyres are great, but I think road tubeless is probably going to eventually negate the more resilient tyres as technology evolves there and things become easier to use and lighter. I don't find the wet grip on the GP 5000's is too bad, obviously taking it a bit easier on the corners. I found that since I've swapped to discs, there was no real need for "winter bike" or "winter wheels" for my personal usage. I actually sold my "winter" bike and the stuff I had foor that as just wasn't using it and bought a gravel bike (also tubeless) for pottering about in the forest tracks, which is quite fun in winter training. I'm really loving these reviews coming from you lately, nice to see a genuine and unbiased view on everything!

An addendum to my reply : still no flats and a lot of glass mixed with debrit on the roads here. Had a few Vectra/aramid strand threads pulling out of the tyres and burnt them off with a cigarette lighter to fix that tyre maintained issue. Also the Kevlar anti scuff mesh on one side wall delaminated by a couple of millimetres from one end but re-atatched with a drop of superglue. These are my favorite tyres so far. I ride year round with the same tyres. I'm not a racer so I wanted a tyre that I could just leave on and forget about. I did manage to tear open the surface of my back tyre when I rode over a half broken beer bottle... I replaced it with a continental gatorskin and can't say I really like it. Yess it's durable and doesn't seem to get rocks inbeded in it but they really don't offer the grip or confidence of the 4 season when riding in the cold or wet conditions. @@fede1275when you made that comment about the spray and your bike stayed cleaner ...my first thought was that the successfully optimized the tread pattern to displace the water giving you a drier contact with the tarmac. Not surprised that they grip well in the wet. Being four season tires the compound is chosen for good grip in the cold . It's the same thing in car tire technology. I would put my dedicated winter tires on my car when it got colder and well before the snow came. So much better at 40°F and raining. I've heard good things about Conti studless winter tires too. These comments came from colleagues that were using studded tires for the winter. You might want to give them a try as they probably have technology from dedicated winter tires compounds with better (meaning some grip as opposed to none) grip on ice. I would give them a try myself but my days of winter cycling are done. Could have used that winter technology for my shoes a few winters ago...slipped off a curb and came straight down on it . Yeah four decades of winter cycling and yes more than a few falls and just got up and road away. I hit the curb and instantly knew I was getting up or putting any weight on it....major surgery was going to be needed to do that. But I do have a fancy ceramic bearing and a bit of a titanium frame and hardware now. Before they could operate on the hip they had to put a rod in my lower feamer to pull the acetabulem buried in the pelvis out of the socket so they could reconstruct everything...they made a instruction tutorial of the whole process for other surgeons to learn from it. Fortunately I already knew were some good orthopedic surgeons were and went straight to the ER there.

@@stevengagnon4777 I believe the 4 Seasons are a very specific winter race tyre. The grip is excellent, maybe as you said because of the patterns as well as the compound. @@fede1275 I lived in the snow belt. We all used those Nokian Haktapaca studded tires in the winter for decades. They really made a difference especially after the snow got packed down and turned to ice. Even though most of the roads would be clear the were always places that would still be icy. Those tires certainly were slow and heavy but they lasted fir nearly a decade of use on our purposely equipped winter bikes. Mine was a steel Raleigh C50 that I altered the geometry(chopped the stays and a bit shorter fork and rake) and used as cyclocross bike. Ran cyclocross tubulars on it until winter. Although I really used it as a commuter that could go anywhere, having the sloping top tube was nice for dismounting. That was a little more than three decades ago and still have that bike . A tad heavy but rides so nice so I never replaced it.

Again, totally pertinent to my situation. New emonda sl6, deciding whether to place seasons or 5000 on my new road bike. Currently have 32mm 4 seasons on my 2022 trek fx 2 ( I love the tires on that bike) but not sure about giving up speed. I want SPEED! What’s the real difference between the two in speed Fede? Marginal?

Maybe it's all in my head, but when I put the GP5000 back for the summer, they felt slightly faster. Don't have any real data. I'll switch back to the 4 seasons for the winter as the grip and feedback is great.

@@fede1275 thanks Fede. I went the the 5000’s and I’m glad I did. Now I just need to determine if I need a slightly shorter stem. So I have a small mountain in my city which tops out at around 1300m. Especially when going late on the day, its icy for half of the ride down and I still use my continental 5000 23 mm with 0 profile. Feels very dangerous and I must go very slowly. You think the 4 season will improve my safety here? How broad would you go? Could also be an all year tyre for my second bike that I use on gravel smt.

I believe the 4 Seasons is a great tyre for performance riding when it's cold, but I would not use for light gravel as I think it's not that strong for that. I am now using Specialized Armadillos Elite for the commuter bike, not fast but seem definitely strong and with good puncture resistance. However I would not trust any tyre when there is ice on the road

I'm working on some Pirelli Road 26mm tires right now. Continental's don't provide as much grip as I like and haven't used them since way before the 4000 series went out. The 5000 series is just too pricey too.

When I was commuting Maxxis Refuse were bulletproof, I would NEVER get punctures, and they lasted a long time. Then I changed to GP5000 the non tubeless version and I rarely get a puncture, but they roll a lot smoother.
