Just watched 3 videos on your channel, and you've definitely earned a new sub. Your editor deserves lots of credit, but also your writer/researcher (bonus points for adding your script to the transcription for youtube). Most of all, the way you approach complex biology topics is refreshing.... Not too much humor, but still not too serious. A+ work for sure ,❤

Welcome back, Maria^^ Hope life is doing fine over on your end :) I sent you a project in which my uni takes part in on discord which works on archaeic organisms and early life on earth. Maybe this would be interesting for you.^^ Also, no shame in taking time to research stuff. But some semi-regular updates over the community-tap would be neat to know what's up :)

1:50 Here's a quick summary on why aliens won't be silicon based or other elements: 1. The reason life must be based on elements of carbon group is that carbon group elements have the most formable bonds. 4 outermost electron can form single bond, double bond, triple bond, quadruple bond. This gives diversity on life forming molecules. 2. The reason why it can not be silicon or other heavy carbon group is that at temperature where water is liquid (being able to dissolve and carry life forming molecules) silicon is mostly solid (And that most silicon based molecules are not water soluble). There won't be a diverse silicon molecules to cycle through an eco system like carbon cycles.

Hey that's a nice story but abiogenesis is kind of a joke if you actually look into it. Yes there are 4 carbon Mol. Points but it's not likely that any proteins will ever get developed with out the DNA and cell to direct it. Even the latest origins of life experiments are highly over exaggerated and unrealistic at best. I'm not sure what articles you have read but I haven't seen any realistically giving any real break through. So I don't get why people push these ideas when there is nothing to show that it's even possible let alone likely. I'm not trying to pick at you I just don't see any real evidence for it
@fairy68186 ай бұрын
@@vikingskuld Abiogenesis or not, it doesn't change the fact that carbon has the most diverse molecules, and its molecules exist in diverse range of states, in diverse range of conditions. And carbon being perfect-sized for optimal energy usage. Life would greatly favour carbon as its base.
@vikingskuld6 ай бұрын
@@fairy6818 I'm not even arguing that carbon isn't great for life. Your right on all that it's just all the other little stuff to get life doesn't really form naturally. That's what I'm trying to point out. Even if dna was able to some how miraculously assemble the thing people don't think about is all that's on a time limit. The very things that form the building blocks of life and that helps life it the very thing that breaks it all down as well. Water sunlight oxygen all degrade dna. It's a lit of information in a small subject but you seem like you know enough to know that. Best of luck to ya.

That doesn't address the possability of carbon life forms "evolving" into silicon life forms.

This video had me hooked from beginning to end! The origin of life on earth tells us much of where to look elsewhere. If we're not even the only ones living in the solar system, how many other planets have oceans full of life? How many possible worlds are there out there?

Great video, very knowledgable. I thought of a video idea that would be fun & might draw in some viewers: Going over descriptions within older direct eyewitness reports of "sea monsters" to try & identify what animal(s) they were likely seeing. I know there were a spate of them off the US East Coast in the 1800s. Not sure if there are any YT videos on this subject but I know there are a few books that have collected these accounts. Maybe even get some other YTbers together to brainstorm?

I may have missed it, but did you talk about the traces of elements that cannot be produced by geological processes? Astrologists like to look at the signatures of the atmosphere of exoplanets, hoping to find such elements. Finding any would be a likely proof of life. Best example is O2, since oxygen binds easily to other elements and therefor would most likely not be present in the atmosphere without some sort of synthesis. There was a press conference by NASA within the last few years where they discussed finding one of those supposed signature elements in the atmosphere of venus. Given the state of Venus, life should not be possible there, so there is probably still a lot to do in order to figure out which molecules would be the best candidates.

Water and ice covered water worlds appear to be quite common, so I believe it possible that "extraaquaticals" may be more common than extraterrestrials in the Universe. If aliens wanted to hide on Earth the oceanic abyssal floors may be very much like their homeworld environment, and quite convenient for cohabitating quietly while on our planet.

The strangest thing about life for me is that it came to be and immediately knew how to reproduce,
@Seamemaria6 ай бұрын
Being able to self-replicate is part of the preconditions for something to be considered alive. So by definition something is only alive once it can self-replicate. Until then, its only a bunch of organic compounds.
@Unotch6 ай бұрын
@@SeamemariaI guess it's much stranger than just that. Think about it - both things must come together. In the hunt for life we should not look for life - but for something able to reproduce. I find it way more plausible for something able to reproduce to come to life than something alive developping reproduction within the first generation.
