Amid a global push to ditch fossil fuels, oil-rich countries in the Gulf are working hard to diversify their economies and transition away from the very commodity that has been the source of their wealth for decades. This documentary examines efforts by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to transform their economies, through the eyes of foreign professionals from Asia.
We look at how they are lending their skills and expertise to develop new industries that promise to be new engines of growth for these countries. What’s attracted these foreign talents to grow their careers here and how are they helping their host economies seize new opportunities in a post-oil future?

Expert: "For every country they come to a point where they hit the pinnacle of their achievements and then they realise that it's a point of saturation and you need to find something new to innovate further. To find either a new target or landmark or project to achieve." Me: "They're running out of oil"

Nah, they're running out of (future) customers to sell oil to. Now they're scrambling to pivot. If they were smart, they would do as Norway did and invest their wealth for this day, and continue to innovate their economy. Sadly, they rested on their laurels

@@hasnat9545 they have to because they were being listed as “tax avoiding country” by other countries which would affect their international transactions and international trades overall. It’s only 9% corporate tax no personal income tax, no tax for anyone who makes under $102k and theirs small business relief if you make under $800k annually which you can apply.

I am here because when I heard about SA as human rights ambassador for the UN I thought that it was a joke, but now I realize that since 2018 there has been a change that I missed in the news. I can see the good work done here in terms of societal progress. Well done SA!

I have heard there a millions of Filipinos working in the Middle East along with Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalis, Bangladeshis. Maybe they didn't show us because most of our people work in low end Labour jobs like construction worker, hotel staff, maids, nurse, drivers, cleaners, etc. And this documentary is about the High Tech stuff.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have long relied heavily on outside expertise to develop their country. They seem to have no self-confidence to advance their own country. They're willing to pay something at a high price to get it rather than trying to build it themselves. That's the mentality of the Arabs from the past to the present
