Dive into the journey of DeAndre Ayton, a basketball prodigy whose college performances at the University of Arizona made him a household name.
Dominating the Pac-12, Ayton's remarkable athleticism, scoring ability, and defensive prowess led to his selection as the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
However, his transition to the NBA has been met with challenges. Despite flashes of brilliance and solid statistics, Ayton's impact on the Phoenix Suns did not quite lived up to the monumental expectations set by his draft stock, leading to debates about his place among his draft peers and future potential in the league.
Ayton is looking to revamp his career in Portland.

As a Suns fan, Ayton became such a hated player here we were all begging Monty to play Jock Landale over him in the Denver series. The Ayton trade has looked spectacular for us thus far, as Nurkic and Allen have been way better than what we'd have gotten from Ayton, who's also on a max contract.

Guys, Ayton is definitely not a star and his contract is inflated. But you don't watch Portland games, and your assessment of his performance is still far from reality. Nowadays it's an automatic double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, but sometimes he produces a bad game. You literally only remember the moments when he plays poorly, and yes, he can play terrible, but the hype around him is unjustified because he plays... just like a good NBA player, which is not enough for a max contract, but also not enough for him to hated. I'm pretty weak in English, so I could write something stupidly

He's been one of the best most consistent blazer players this season. Sure it's on a losing team with no expectations of winning this year. But he's been a good player for the Blazers and his mentality seems improved over here. Maybe the stress of being a championship team was too much for him to handle, but he's been shining in Portland.

His situation is simple to fix. He needs a pass first point guard, tyrese, Luka would be perfect for him in the pick and roll. In Portland, when he sets a pick and starts to roll, he doesn't get the ball back. This is why he had good success with Chris Paul. Indiana or Dallas would be a better fit.

He’s always been petulant. He needs to feel involved in order to produce. In Phoenix, he would beast for 3 quarters then not see the ball at all in the 4th for YEARS. Even when he was putting up absurd #s in their Finals run. When you’re shooting 80%, grabbing boards, and shutting down your man, then not seeing the ball in crunch time, that’s gonna feel like a slap in the face. On the Portland side, his need to be set up in order to finish well is the issue. And since he’s not producing, his touches are down, and boom! now the effort is gone again. If any NBA team could figure that out and actually get players to put him in spots like the Suns did AND continue to go to him as the game goes on, I think we can see him blossom into the player he was supposed to be. But it better happen soon or it never will.

I feel like getting drafted to a Phoenix hurt him, and now being in Portland he just doesn't care. Is he was drafted to a solid org with good vets to guide him, he could've been really great. Failing to set screens, box out, and be in the right place on D really takes the shine off of his double doubles. And Phoenix didn't throw him the ball in the 4th because he has hands of stone. I suppose he's happy putting up empty stats while the Blazers tank for the rest of the season.

Deandre Ayton is definitely better than a NBA draft bust. To his credit, he's still better than the average NBA player. Also, he's proven to be (or at least he used to) a valuable starter on a NBA Finals contending team. Ayton was overhyped (Arizona star playing for the Suns is good marketing), which led him to being overpaid (4 years/$132 million), and now he is overrated (never reached All-Star status). And the criticism of his low work ethic is totally fair. But he can still produce good statistics in games (20-25 points and 10-15 rebounds), and still finishes with annual season stats with a double double. That being said, when you're the #1 pick of your draft, and there are 8 guys drafted after you who are better (Luka Dončić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Brunson, Trae Young, and Jaren Jackson Jr., Mikal Bridges, Michael Porter Jr. and Anfernee Simons), people are gonna criticize your career.

Ayton is an average NBA player lol. He is a 7'1 athletic big who can't block shots nor defend very well. He also has a limited sealing offensively. Not a bust just a meh what could have been NBA player.

Okay, is Ayton better than the elite talent in his class, no of course not, but bro, at least pick some better clips to demonstrate your points, you're picking clips where he's obviously switched to demonstrate defensive incompetence when you obviously have no idea what the fuck is gong on in the scheme.

DA is just like the colleague who likes to come in late and leaves early but does what he is supposed to do...also Billups was most successful when he played with Ben Wallace so dont expect DA to take the next step of development as a player in Portland...other than being overpaid there really is nothing wrong about the man child 😂
