Well, considering online chess ratings are inflated at least 200 points over actual tournament/FIDE ratings, there's a chance you weren't even better than him at age 7 XD But I'm definitely not either.

LOL..... That game with Joseph Eddy in your first Hunter, I remember it. We came off a very relaxing summer, and you got completely deprogrammed, messing up three tourneys in a row. Mercifully, Hunter had a breaking point at the last round, and from there on, your rating zoomed to 1400 by the next summer. You were also very cute and feisty at the same time like a young lion. Greetings from Dad on this Friday.

I feel Joseph man. I quit chess after a loss in a tournament by blundering backrank mate in a completely winning position. I was like 10 and very devastated. Then I play again in small tournament in my uni several years later and won my game. Stopped playing until the online chess crusade. Went online, got to 2200 online and ended up watching crap chess youtube videos. Cheers Levy.
@eldonhill4840
@eldonhill4840 3 жыл бұрын
Your story is probably more similar to Levy's than Joseph's, because you quit and made a comeback. Levy quit for several years when he was a teenager, and it probably set him back considerably. He may even have already been a GM by this point if he hadn't, but who can say. If he was a professional player earlier on, he probably wouldn't have had the chance to have such success on youtube.

I am honored to have played Levy as a child. Although I stopped tournament play, I came back to chess after the Queen's Gambit came out as a show. I returned as a 1000 rated player and continued on my journey by watching GothamChess videos and am now 1400. Edit: I was joking about playing Levy as a child. My name is Joseph, just like the first person in the tournament, which is why I made a joke, which was apparently not so clear. The second half is true. And now I actually reached an ELO of 1500 by 2022, thanks to Levy. However, I have stopped playing since then because of the business of nursing school.

When 7 year old Levi played, I had just gone to uni aged 18 and briefly played for the chess club there. I was probably only 1400 at that point (1700 now), but it was still the last point in my life where I was better than Levi at a point in time, despite being a decade older! Also notice similarties with 10 year old Levi and me. I play the Grand Prix and often screw up winning positions when in time trouble with bizzare moves like that knight move.

I love how Levy is like saying “How did I even get to 1675 playing like this!” Implying how bad his moves were at that age But literally, I can’t even beat 10-year-old baby Gotham. And my guy is now playing like grandmaster like if I played either of them I would litterly be crushed but great work Levi keep the content up cause we love it! 👍

Susan Polgar is not the first woman to hold the GM title, that would be Nona Gaprindashivili. For American viewers: the one that successfully sued Queen's Gambit producers for falsely stating she only competed against women.

3:44 As a 100 (you can laugh), I would take pawn on d5, then after trading, I move to take with Nd5. With you guys being the rating you are at the time, if I were black, I would have taken with black Nd5, trading knights. This gives white the turn and having a direct long range snipe to the queen using the dark-sqaured bishop on G5.

Watching this made me remember my own chess days as a kid. I used to play at school (not any prodigy by far, but just above good) and got into a few in-school tournaments. If I remember correctly, I just got bored and slowly moved away from chess completely. Got into more studies where I did turn out to be kind of a prodigy, then into gaming (I actually wanted to become an eSports player at one point, entered probably hundreds of tournaments) and about 7 months ago, I played chess again with one of the kids I competed with at an old tournament, he beat me easily. So I decided to get back into chess, and here I am. Not trying to get to any mastery levels, but I enjoy getting as good as I can.

The first time I played I was 8/9 and our teacher was absent or something, so the janitor came in with a huge magnetic chess set that he hung on the blackboard. I didn't play chess for exactly 20 years, just recently came back, and it has always been one of my favorite memories from my childhood, even if I don't really know why, it just doesn't go away. I was sad to know he died recently.
