▶️An anti-friction ball bearing consists of the following parts:
Inner Ring - also called an inner race or cone.
Outer Ring - also called an outer race or cup.
Rolling Elements - balls or rollers.
Cage - also known as a separator or retainer. The cage separates the rolling elements evenly apart.
The inner ring usually rotates whilst the outer ring is usually stationary. Rolling elements can be either ball or roller, but the 3D animation shown in this video uses a ball bearing.
Bearings may also contain either a seal or shield. Seals prevent moisture and particle ingress, whilst also retaining the grease. Shields reduce particle ingress and form some barrier to prevent the grease escaping the internals of the bearing. Shields are usually manufactured from metal whilst seals are usually manufactured from Teflon or rubber.
Bearings may be oil or grease lubricated.

Hello, couple questions: Doesn't the ball rub against the separator when you rotate the bearing, causing friction? Also, doesn't the seal rub against either one or both of the inner/outer rings, also causing friction? Cheers Carl

An example of a ball bearing that rotates the outer ring and keeps the inner ring stationary is on a skateboard. We put the ball bearing into the skateboard wheel and the inner ring is tightened on with a nut, then the outer ring will rotate when the skateboard is pushed.

Inner and outer ring remain together because of the steel balls which come in contact with the inner or outer raceways. Imagine that if the balls are missing the inner and outer ring are free to separate.

omg this one is so mind blowing.. so it holds rotating object on stationary axis, like bike wheels (you need wheel to rotate but you dont want go over the front lol) so bearings can hold rotating objects without making too much friction of their functional use? if i try to hold rotating object i get my wrist twisted :D i need new bearings or smth :D but why in car engine belt mechanism do you need bearings? does it only helps for rotating parts being in same position or there are some extras on it?
@bljack

But how do all of the parts assemnled together? Looks like the inner ring doesnt have any part attached to the outter ring, this enables the outer ring to freely rotate while the inner ring stays constant. But yet they are not falling apart?

Dear Sir, Can you make a brief class on all types of bearings. Especially the ones used in connecting rod small end bearing & On crank shaft bearing multi-piston engines... Because I heard about some "ridge bearing" application in advance engines used in connecting n piston & on crank shaft (engines use to drive boats:A video From "'HOW ITS MADE- 445 Outboard motors"' ) As far as I know, use of roller/needle bearing & split bearing or bushing respectively in piston end & crankshaft ..... Kindly requested can you please watch the Supra refered video and revert me back if..... Thank you once again... Subscribed channel n liked videos.

There should be rolling contact between the balls and both raceways - the inner race shouldn't be stationary with respect to the balls in the animation.
@CleoCat75
@CleoCat75 Жыл бұрын
This is what I came to ask! The animation shows logo on the inner raceway staying perfectly in the same spot as the bearing above it. If that's the case, the bearing wouldn't be "rolling" anywhere! If the bearing is touching the upper race way, I suppose that would make the bearing roll backwards while staying in the same spot in relation to the inner raceway, according to this animation. It would be nice to see what truly happens. Thanks for you comment, confirming I'm not crazy for thinking that, hehe.
