Sleeping in beds used to have a mechanic that balanced out how powerful beds are. Back in older versions, sleeping in dark areas would lead to a hostile mob waking you up from sleeping, so you had to already have a base that was well lit for you to actually be able to skip the night.

It's a sandbox game, if you don't want to use items that make your gameplay experience easier, just don't. You don't get any drawbacks from not sprinting or using a shield, but granted not using a bed will bombard you with phantoms (which you can easily toggle off with vanilla tweaks).

I will disagree with you on this. Beds made the game less tedious, not easier. Per-say. If beds didn't exist, I would simply spend the nights mining, or afk in a 1 block hole. It makes the early game more fun, when you don't want to deal with hostile mobs very often.
@TechbotHimself4 ай бұрын
I totally get this, thats why if they were to make changes to the bed (I don't think they ever will) they should be exclusively in hard mode. Not gonna lie though I didn't think of this idea until after the video was out XP

I just want to ask but what are we supposed to do during the night? Like surviving the night isn't a challenge, you just hide in a hole and watch a video on your phone and bam, it's over. Night time was only difficult as a kid because you went outside and then died because you were young. There isn't that same objective anymore. The only way I could see this working is if there were maybe things that could only be found in the dark, like weird beams of light that layed out where nighttime specific loot was, otherwise this is a really really bad idea and adds nothing to the game imo For a game that makes night time scary though try darkwood. that game is basically what you want, a survival horror game where the biggest fear is trying to survive the night

I don't really understand this argument. What makes the night so easy to survive vs when we were younger is that we have more experience. We know how to escape mobs, to mine at night, to look for sheep. I joined Minecraft well after beds were added, yet I can safely say I died at night all the time. I don't anymore because I'm more skilled, not because I know how to craft a bed.

I think beds should stay but take slightly longer to get. This way you are almost forced to survive your first night or two, and then get a bed. Some ideas are making sheep not drop wool without shears (or just rarer), or making beds require a phantom membrane (maybe a bit too much). I want to keep them and their iconic-ness, but preserve the first night experience.

theres a reasone the first big project I do is a mob switch: because most of the time I don't care about difficulty, I want to do things without creepers getting in the way. beds make the game SO much less tedius.
@LuigiGamingLounge4 ай бұрын
They should rework beds so that mobs can attack you, break into your house, etc... making sleeping an actual risk in exchange for fending off phantoms and arriving at the day.
@deimosphob4 ай бұрын
Nah, beds don't make it that bad, being able the set your spawn and skip the night is huge, but decreasing village spawnrates (i use sparse structures mod for this) and making the mobs actually difficult by going back to pre beta 1.8 with the lack of hunger and food instant healing, also going back to old damage, and making shields act more like sword blocking where it still deals damage through the shield (had to do this manually). Fixing sprint I had to allow undead horse jockey's to spawn in aswell as stray's, which deal slowness and balance the sprint feature also added in 1.8 so a lack of hungerbar/stamina is largely combat related. Next one I want to work in is creeper strafing like in the old game they would continue walking whilst exploding. I've been able to get that same fear through modding those features in, not to mention going beta terrain and textures (cascades mod and golden age resource pack) really changes the feel of the game. The mod that I use to bring a lot of the old Minecraft balancing features "classic mechanics" allows for old nightmares, which make it so mobs spawn on you if you have low lightlevel around the bed. Only gripe I have with the mod is transferring game rules to other clients can be difficult for those who are impatient or don't know computers, and making your own takes a long time, but it fixes the game in its entirety.

better than adventure fixes this issue by adding cloths which are used to craft beds and they are dropped by zombies, which is a nice idea, since you would need to fight the monsters first if you want to set a spawn point or skip the night.
@KattyKitten694 ай бұрын
This idea should honestly be added to Minecraft, i know there are also a few other issues with It, like How villages still have beds and they're pretty Common, or how you would still be able to skip the night after getting a bed. So i came with some solutions. For the first issue, abandoned villages could bê made more common and villages rarer, im not sure If abandoned villages have beds but If they do just remove them, só now either you Go out and kill some zombies and get your bed or be lucky enough to find a village in your first night. For the other issue, there Inst much i could change about it other than just incentivizing people to stay awake at night, and adding a mob that punishes players for doing so isn't a very good Idea, só the first step would be to change Phantoms, maybe making them spawn in mountains at night, and also change their behaviour because they're annoying.

There should be a bravery bar. When it’s low you can’t sleep at all because you are too scared. If you kill a few mobs then you can start sleeping because you’re brave enough. But the radius for a mob to be in to prevent you from sleeping will be increased a lot. However you can lower the radius by increasing your bravery bar. Also, only hostile mobs form the overworld that does not spawn from spawners can fill up your bar.
@Sprigatitto7404 ай бұрын
I think beds are a good addition because not everyone plays the same. If players want a challenge then they can choose to not sleep. If they just want to grind materials for their house or do whatever without mobs taking most of their health in early game then they can do that too
@TechbotHimself4 ай бұрын
I like this thought process
@StudiomcmasterTV4 ай бұрын
Beds are great, but I've always had a fear of the night, even with a bed. As others have pointed out, beds used to have a mechanic that balanced out their power. In older versions, sleeping in dark areas would lead to a hostile mob waking you up, so you needed a well-lit base to safely skip the night. You couldn't just place a bed randomly during your journey and skip the night-you had to create a checkpoint, a mini-base, or just pray that you survived until morning.
@TechbotHimself4 ай бұрын
I wish I remembered this part of the early beds because I totally would have put this in the video, like I've said many times beds aren't a bad addition I just think they should've been made so you can't skip the night anywhere and anytime with such ease.
@StudiomcmasterTV4 ай бұрын
@@TechbotHimself Personally, I can't see myself just AFKing through the night because I don't like being in the dark. This is probably because of the phantoms, but now that I'm playing on my world in version 1.8.9, it's different. I haven't even found a sheep yet, and I've spent about 2 or 3 hours just digging out the base for my house-or cave house, really.

Beds should get nerfed. But I also think they should be buffed a little bit. Because, let’s say you’re exploring. But then it gets dark out. You’re not in the mood to fight mobs so you place down a bed and go to sleep. You wake up, but then die, and respawned millions of blocks away instead of your house. I think there should be sleeping bags that will act like beds except they won’t set your spawn. I know this make beds a bit more op. But I already made another comment on how I would fix that. In case you didn’t see it. Basically, the radius for a mob to stop you from sleeping should be increased. But there will be a bravery bar that will fill up whenever you kill an overworld hostile mob that didn’t spawn form a spawner. The higher the bar fills up, the lower the radius will be.

In general we need a reward for not sleeping (phantoms are not a reward). For the difficulty problem, Minecraft has a few level of difficulty to chose before you create a world, but barely anything changes between those (Hard difficulty actually gives you advantages for villager trading). Why not make hard difficulty actually hard, make mobs run faster even as fast as you, they could also make them shoot you from farther away, creeper could blow faster and/or bigger and much more, the tools to make this happen are already in the game. A player that likes challenge would choose hard mode, if you just want to build cool stuff you would play easy.

The overall difficulty of the game is definitely something I wanna talk about in another video and how they could fix it using the different levels of difficulty

That's a fair point. The only reason to not sleep early game is to get bones for a dog and string for fishing rod/bow. Late game you need gunpowder and stuff, but by then you're not dying to anything.
