This is why I miss web design from the 90's and early 2000's. Fun fact, I had saved the raw HTML for my KZbin Channel long... long time ago before they pushed the absolutely horrible all white layout during the google takeover. It's only just the HTML to the page itself, no CSS or any other resources. After the layout switchover, I tried opening the HTML I saved, and it loaded the old layout properly somehow. I'm tempted to wonder has anyone ever tried to "fix" KZbin with a load of invasive HTML, CSS and javascript modifications applied clientside?
@pepsijazz4625 жыл бұрын
I would have suggested coding up a more stream lined way of doing this using KZbins API, but upon furthur inspection I found out that it cost money to fetch data from their servers, and after learning that I didn't even bother looking to see if you could upload a comment through their API. Kind of lame if you ask me.
@SapphFire5 жыл бұрын
They give you a quota of 10 000 units every day. I'm not sure if that's enough for that though. I didn't spend much time looking but they don't seem to have an option to get notified for new comments. That's especially bad for replies since you'd have to go through each comment on every video which would probably burn through your quota.

It is not only the case with KZbin, sadly. Most if not all Google products seem to get a lot worse the longer they are on the market. There are some insightful blog posts by ex-Googlers out there, giving some explanation why this likely happens: Google employees get good resumes and promotions mostly by introducing new features. The bigger the impact, the more promotion points a team member gets. This is why it is very rewarding to change UI things in products used by hundreds of millions of users or pushing out "yet another messenger" app instead of doing one right (Talk, Hangouts, Duo, Allo, ...).

Google has made KZbin worse and worse ever since they bought it, they've added more buttons to do things, hiding features behind inane 10+click interfaces, and of course the forced move to google+ accounts, which was a universally hated addition. I miss KZbin from 2005-2007, it was perfect, and it was a much more content creator friendly since you had much more ability to interact directly with your audience, and what content got successful was handled by the viewers, and not ad money from corporations and a google algorithm. If your video got a lot of hits, it got bumped up closer to front page, and your video actually got tiny medals showing it's ranking, both by content category and in general compared to other videos. Now, want the frontpage? Pay Google.

I think there might be two things happening here: 1. KZbin is filtering out comments that it doesn't think you'd be interested in, especially from people KZbin might deem as undesirable. 2. KZbin is reducing the number of comments so creators don't feel overwhelmed. In either case, this is just KZbin deciding what's best for you and how you should live your life. I just wish they'd stop patronizing people. P.S. Yes, this is my uninformed opinion. I don't know for sure if this is what KZbin is doing, but it certainly is in line with their policies.

I don’t know why the comment was not showing up in the KZbin application, or why the “show # replies” button in KZbin Studio is totally defunctional for any thread containing more than a handful of replies, but for the comment not showing up on either of the desktop comment pages that’s because they list _threads_ in time order, not posts. Replies don’t count as posts; they are totally ignored for the purposes of the sorting. If you click “show more” the 150 times or so in order to get the right thread on the screen, then the reply will be on the screen too.

@YourTVUnplugged5 жыл бұрын
No they do care... They care to make sure it doesn't work right so it aggravates us enough to give up on it and stop interacting like we want to. They could fix it, but that would get in the way of their agenda pushing as you mention as people would be communicating freely calling out said agendas and exposing things that are wrong and untruthful... They don't want that so they try to make it as inconvenient as possible for us to communicate.

KZbin's got some other issues as well I've got to mention, like: the bug where you click on a new video except it shows the previous one, text placements for closed captioning (CC), their removal of (interactive) annotations and the Inbox feature (and I haven't used Messages yet), the removal of Google+'s feature to comment privately and mention users, text formatting in comments/description, no button for translating comments into your language (because on mobile, I don't want to copy then leave the app and jump into my web browser which occassionally refreshes), some videos in playlists would be deleted by the uploader without a trace left behind (their title and description) in the playlist, no warning about video deletions (e.g. copyright infringement), no way to sort video subscriptions (by date), KZbinrs' content being affected by the recommendation algorithm, lack for preview of ratings and video tags, no playlist for Disliked videos, the glitch where video gets a green screen from hardware acceleration (which could freeze/restart Chromebooks), the incognito mode on mobile turns off automatically which I don't like (since it affects the recommendations associated with that account, and I'd sometimes accidentally click on a KZbin link), no way of downloading videos, no way for scaping all of your KZbin comments (especially important when you want to find a video you don't remember the title of), no feature to overlay comments on top of the video (based on their timestamps) like how Niconico (ニコニコ動画) does it, it'd also be cool if you could filter out videos you've already watched.

I can make quite okay fried salmon. I tend to cook simple. My staple food is a sort of paella made of ground beef, rice and frozen vegetables, all mixed and either stewed or fried with liberal amount of olive oil. Sometimes I use macaroni instead of rice. In either case, I prefer to use whole-grain varieties. Sometimes I use fresh vegetables, but I cook so irregularly that I prefer not to keep a stock of expirables. For seasoning, I use lots of garlic, dried chili, and assorted ground peppers. Sometimes I add crème fraîche if I can find some in sales.

Hi Bisqwit, Glad to see you are still active here :) Aren't there any reliable KZbin comments scrapping APIs? What about having a pinned comment for every upload with a link where we could reply instead of in KZbin's failing comments section? Subs-Discord is also an option but it will probably not be a good place to keep track of each topic (since it is a chat).
@Bisqwit5 жыл бұрын
KZbin provides APIs for data access, but I have not fully studied their implications and limitations. I do still recommend using the comments section on KZbin*. Just be aware of its shortcomings. *) For purposes of orderly conduct, and also, because comments count as interaction, and the KZbin algorithm shuns videos that have poor interaction levels.

Hi Bisqwit yes I certainly feel your frustration with these systems... It's not that YT can't get it right, it's more that they refuse to make it work properly it even once did work correctly, but in their quest for censorship ways and making it more difficult for people to communicate with each other effectively they've intentionally broken it. Even if one isn't inclined to believe this to be the truth (that they actually want a broken system and wish to keep it as such), still you're left with it being broken and the only real solution is to develop custom solutions that do actually work properly. Upon doing just that and YT still refusing to learn from our code and make their systems work properly would prove that they do in fact like it in a less functional than desired state and will fight to keep it that way. For dedicated viewers that want a 99.9999999% working chat system they could comment through it instead of through here which may also even put it through to YT as well and after a while you could see the clear deviation of how easy and wonderful our chat systems work compared to how poorly their systems work (by design)! :)

It varies between the index finger of the right hand and the left thumb, depending which hand is closer. Sometimes I may also use the thumb of the right hand if my hands are positioned right.

"How we communicate has great influence to how others will communicate", I really like that do you have any advice for getting yourself familiarized with a big C++ codebase? do you think getting familiar only with what you initially have to use a good approach? or should you get a more abstract understanding of how all the code works before diving into specific modules?
@Bisqwit5 жыл бұрын
If there is architectural documentation, or better yet, someone to explain the code, that would be good to have at hand while looking at the code. Other than that, not really. To be honest I don’t have much experience about big C++ programs. Most of the source code I have read in my life has been in C.
@SianaGearz5 жыл бұрын
I have some experience with big codebases and it depends. Often times digging into something small, just as long as it's not too terribly isolated, will teach you a lot about codebase as a whole, as every codebase has its favourite way of doing things, and once you've seen it on a small scale, large scale implications are easier to discern. As a rule, large complicated application codebases have no helpful documentation whatsoever, as opposed to framework codebases, so i'm going to assume it's an undocumented application coebase. I'm also going to assume that you don't like talking to people, at least until you have a very clear pointed question that can be answered unambiguously, because... well honestly i just don't like people. But first you want to get a quick random look all over the place to see whether it seems like the codebase is coherent or schizophrenic - mind you small bits that don't fit the overall mould because they do something incredibly specific are fine. Another helpful tactic is to walk through the revision control history, and get the biggest nastiest changeset you can find that implements something that looks like an small to moderately sized feature but happens to touch hundreds of files across the whole codebase, and study what it does, as it will reveal a lot of things at once but probably not too many to process. Also study changesets that do something similar to what you want to accomplish. Also don't neglect the debugger. Complex C++ codebases tend to obscure a lot of code and data relationships, because you'll find numerous megaobjects which contain fields and methods of dozens of classes that they've been derived from on a chain, and while they're spread out all over the place in the codebase in text form, at runtime they all have to be accessible from that one object so they'll show up as such in the debugger.

I am pretty sure that’s the origin of 99% of the “KZbin unsubbed me without my knowledge” complaints: People who never were subscribed in the first place, and who somehow stopped receiving notifications of new uploads on their front page because they watched something else for a while and KZbin thinks they are no longer interested of that content.

On my PC I use script to load youtube in old style, then another to load "youtube particle" extension (not available in chrome store). Good old UI, ability to make viedeo occupy entire site space without going fullscreen, also lots of minor things like auto-unfold description and youtube logo taking You directly to subscriptions page. There are two disadvantages: to go back to previous page I must click back button two times in a very tight timing, otherwise it would only reset the current page (probably because 1st script which modifies page address). Also list of proposed films during watching video is limited, "show more" button does not work (bet Google broke it to force users to switch to new version). But I still prefer it than newer version of KZbin and version of particle for new YT design, "youtube iridium" - it lacks some key features. Today I searched on YT for Mythbusters aaand... Got one season and rest of search results was fortnite only... Few weeks ago I searched for one artist's covers, and it showed me like 5 of them, then videoclips of totally unrelated band. Good job with optimising search results.

Actually, i am a school student of 9th standard, my age is 14 years and i am absolutely a beginner in c++ language.i have cleared all the basic concepts like variables, constants, static data, arrays[], pointers, operators (except bitwise), reference operator, enumerations, structures, classes, time related functions, functions (like abs(); sin(); cos(); pow(); etc etc....).about these topics i know correctly. i have also prepared some gui projects like bank management, billing etc. and some games like snake game. the only graphics library i know is BGI (borland graphics interface. It is old but cool and also works with modern ide's like codeblocks).i am new to vga hardware and graphics programming.now my problem is that what to do now? How to take steps forward towards intermediate level and then your level 'Bisqwit' level. To create applications like you and break the rules. Please tell me what librararies, Versions, functions i have to learn, which tutorials or books i have to learn, for what i have to search on internet to learn c++ completely like you. Help me please c++ is my first language. THANK YOU I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS.

What? You don't like the new UI? I don't think you are in the majority

So it seems, but to each their own.

You're being ridiculous. How could you expect to know which comments you want to reply to? KZbin knows that way better than you. The sooner you submit to the algorithm, the easier it will be.

@@mairacristian54 Obviously, I mean that people shouldn't be silly, and stop thinking that they know what they want. Algorithms know what we want better than we do ourselves. Just give up your agency and freedom of choice and submit to the algorithm.

Wow... you did all that to reply to a simple comment. Respect. You're pretty much an opposite of me, you're not lazy and technically useless like i am, and the only thing peoaple like me are usefull for is mostly for generating views for bigger youtubers.

I knew youtubes interfaces for creators were bad but this is straight up fucking hilarious. How can it be this shit?

Watching you use the KZbin app while on the KZbin app. Tube-ception!

I wonder if it's because older threads were Google+ threads and new ones aren't?

Good thinking. I don’t know if that’s true though.

Hi Bisqwit, could you show us how to compile ffmpeg as a .dll file so it could be used in gui applications?.

5:58 Hi Bisqwit! It's the Russian language and means 'And the picture is nothing.' Have a good day!

Röyal Hüseyn it means “and the picture is good”
@SianaGearz5 жыл бұрын
Yeah well it's not even correct grammar, it's slang, so what it means is up to interpretation. My suggested translation would be "Well, the picture is not too bad really".

Hi Bisqwit! I see you are master at c++ programming. What you think of Rust, language that tries to fix c++ design flaws?
@Bisqwit5 жыл бұрын
I have given it a try. You can see it appear briefly in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6mUmnmQqrqXgJY I also spoke some words about it in the comments. Rust feels clever and awkwardly stiff at the same time. Like Pascal, but better. I do appreciate the winds of innovation regarding that language, but I am not ready to switch to it.

can u teach me how to install "that editor " in the dosbox i am quite new to it .
@Bisqwit5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, the editor is provided pretty much AS-IS. There is a “make” command which builds the editor, but you need to have installed certain development tools (Borland C++, TASM, TLINK - or alternatively djgpp from a Linux host) in certain paths before you can build it. If you want support, your best bet is to ask other enthusiasts of it. Maybe you could find them on our Discord server?

Do you have your own book on c++ or something alike ? It's almost too believable that you do have some out !

I know it is out of context , but do you have a video on c++ memory managers and custom allocators, it would mean so much , thank you

I don’t, yet. It is on my planning list, although without any concrete steps so far.
