How Bloodborne Creates Horror With Its Boss Arenas

I have watched bloodborne gameplay and lore videos for years and only recently decided to play the game. Everything other than some areas are amazing, but the one consistent problem I find is the ambient sounds/music not blending between area changes and just cutting out on the spot. It's really noticable when going from ya'har'gul to the area were you fight paarl. The music will rise with wailing moans, and the second you enter the hole to get to paarl, it stops like someone pressed mute

Dude i always loved how some games focused on the absoloutly breath taking enviornments and surroundings, and i feel like lots if games really put in the effort that's gone un-noticed until bloodborne kind of inspired a community that appreciayes exactly that in games. Iconic for 1 of many reasons for sure.

I just started playing bloodborne seriously and just beat the first boss on the bridge(I forgot what it's called) and I love it so far. Wish they upgraded it for ps5

To be fair, the Witch of Hemwick boss arena wasn't rushed so much as it was repurposed from an earlier build. That entire Henwick area was the first area designed for the game and the building the boss sits in used to be the starting hub before it was redesigned entirely into a boss room and then had it's original boss swapped out for a gimmick boss. I think its even more obvious when you take a look at what the house looks like from the outside and notice how it doesn't really match the inside at all. In fact from a game design standpoint that entire area makes a ton more sense if you go through it completely backwards because one of the earliest versions of Bloodborne's story start from the room behind the boos room with the body, then travel to Central Yharnam to get to the clinic. Whether or not it was changed for the better is up to you but it at least explains why that Boss and arena is very out of place and strange. You'll also never guess who used to be the boss in the area where you fight the Celestia Emissary. It certainly makes a little more sense than the Flock of Aliens that ended up being there in the final game. Fromsoft played a game of musical chairs when it came to the bosses of the game because of its troubled development. They just couldn't make the game work on a technical standpoint so they just ended up altering a chunk of the game, including the story, approximately a year or two before release.
