Awesome info! I'm not a boater, I'm a novelist. I had to research this a little for a scene I'm writing. This is helpful! Thank you!

Mate you are a wealth of information ,just recently a guy on the yamaha forum australia had exactly the same problem with his fuel bulb as you described and engine cutting out , there are marine mechs who are also on the site and most times you will get an answer to the problem another great video .

Lots of very useful information as usual. You’re better off out on your own. Before long you’ll be too busy for videos every day so we’ll enjoy them while they last.

How does the fuel tank not develop a vacuum as fuel is used? Logically, i would think that could lead to a fuel starvation issue?
@BornAgainBoating5 ай бұрын
That's a good question, the answer is simple, the tanks are all vented to the outside atmosphere, so as the fuel is pulled, air fills the void in the tank. But if you have an issue, like using a vacuum gauge on the fuel line and you see a high vacuum, then there is probably something wrong with the fuel tank vent :)

@@BornAgainBoating Is the vent the same one that allows air to escape when filling?

Quick question, my motor is bogging down when I try to give it throttle over 3k rpm, will turn off if I give it more gas, I’ve noticed it only does it when my jackplate is in the original height 3-5 inches, but when I lower down the jack plate all the way down, it will continue to run with no problem, any suggestions?
@BornAgainBoating5 күн бұрын
I would check the rigging tube for a pinched fuel hose, when you trim it up it sounds like the rigging gets tight or something and pinches the fuel hose not letting you get enough fuel, then when you lower the jack plate, gives the hose room and doesn't smash it and the engine runs fine, hopefully you've figure this out by now

Hi, i've a question, which i hope you or someone else here, can help with. We would like to connect a mobile marine fuel tank, to an GX390T2, slow turning, high torque, marine engine from Honda in a bangka (boat in Philipines). This engine has not an electric starter, and if i'm not wrong, neither a fuel pump. How should we proceed? 1.Can we just put the mobile tank on the floor and will it feed the engine after squeezing the fuel ball? How do we have to connect everything? 2. Or do we absolutely need a fuel pump? And if so, which parts do we need and how to connect? Thank in advance for the help/advice. Reason for mobile tank: enlargen navigation range whithout having to refuel in middle of the sea. As engine has only a fuel tank of approx. 1 gal/+- 6l, which equals +- 1h navigating.
@BornAgainBoatingАй бұрын
Well, realistically, you need a fuel pump, but you could try to put the fuel tank above the engine and let it gravity feed to the engine the fuel :/

We always dump a little fuel in the water when filling our boat we don’t have an issue with our tank or vent it just happens

Why don't aluminum boats have fuel water separators? I have owned now two brand new aluminum boats and none used fuel water separators.
@BornAgainBoating10 ай бұрын
Interesting, didn't know that, couldn't tell you. I think with fuel quality and the fact that it's a boat, they all should have a water separator. Unless it's like a 13-17' boat with a 12 gallon tank, that you can probably get away with because you can keep pretty clean since you can take it out of the boat and burn through the fuel more often.
