Namaste. the best way to learn something is to know the purpose / objective. it helps one to channelize oneself to the most relevant one. contemplating about Brahman / Parabrahman is a good start. as one realizes, one will know clearly that "Iam not this body" and "i am not this universe, but, i am the universe". needless to say, one has to drop the idea of the constraint called as body. best wishes.

Consciousness can never be understood, it can only be experienced. Because the moment you try to understand something, it involves our mind. And mind can only deal with material and it tends to give label to it, since we communicate material using label ( terms ). And consciousness is something which is beyond material. It's ironic that we have to use term "consciousness" here, since we have to convey this idea to other people.

every-body including this universe is encapsulated within Consciousness (a.k.a brahman / atman / shiva). the source of that consciousness is parabrahman or paramatman, that is your real identity. this entire universe comes out of you like a hologram from a pinhole light source. that pin-hole is your awareness, with which you know you exist and without which you are in deep sleep. best wishes in your search.
