This video by Baljeet Parmar narrates the account of music piracy and its consequences in Mumbai and bollywood industry during late nineties. Parmar narrates how he reached the crime spot where Gulshan Kumar, the music baron was gunned down on August 12, 1997, the fateful day when the underworld led operatives executed the paid contract.
Parmar narrates the subsequent investigation and how he followed it up even as he was recovering himself from his injuries out of shooting carried out on him by Chotta Rajan few months back.
Music Piracy was a bane for entire Mumbai based music and cinema world and Parmar goes on to recall how several affected music banners did approach underworld D Company to help them out with the brute monopoly and piracy which Gulshan Kumar had been brazenly indulging in without any fear and challenge from any one.
Parmar goes on to tell about his understanding of Nadeem Saifi the infamous music composer of Nadeem Shravan fame who was one of the key suspects of having commissioned this assassination of Gulshan Kumar and who later took refuge in England and escaped Indian investigative agencies fairly successfully.

Shravan had better command on melody than Nadeem the same way as Jaikishan had better command on melody then Shankar. If Sameer is praising Nadeem more than it is the due to the fact the Sameer was closer to Nadeem as the latter helped him to get work same way as Dattaram was more vocal about Shankar since he helped him to get work. Shravan had better command on melody. Being a son of Hindustani Classical musician, Shravan played Harmonium quite well and had exposure to other melody instruments such as Sitar and Sarod. Nadeem's strength was percussion instruments ( mainly drums, congo etc).

Baljeet saab - another good episode. Please keep sharing. 1) I remember how T series was churning out covers of hit songs. Thats how Kumar Sanu Anuradha Paundwal Sonu Nigam Babla etc became famous. Sanu would mimic Kishore saab while Sonu would mimic Rafi and Babla Mukesh. And the casettes were often sold dirt cheap. So all paanwaalah would be playing it. 2) I was under the impression Abu Salem had Gulshan Kumar killed. And he (Salem) insisted on hearing GK's last cries before he was shot. 3). You arr exactly right that around this time (early 90s) religion had started to make inroads in every walk of life including underworld. There were no sacred cows, pun intentional, after Advanis rathyatra. Very nicely done and congrats on 11k+ subscribers.👍

Already told in the video. Release cassettes of same songs by different singers. That's how Sonu Nigam came into limelight. I remember buying the casette of "Ram Lakhan" and when I played it the voices in the songs were of different singers. I asked my father, and the fisrt thing he asked me if the casette was T-series. And it was. It had the picture of a poster of Ram Lakhan like genuine casettes but above the name of the film "Ram Lakhan", in very small fonts, there was written "Songs of". So he would re-record songs of any film with another singer and release the cassette. There was some loophole in the law. If someone releases the recording of the same song, of course it is piracy, like you have torrents of films instead of watching at the appropriate platform. But by rerecording with different singer, he could claim that he didn't just make a pirated copy but releasing his own cover versions or tributes. There was some clause in the law that you could simply provide "letter of intent" to the original creator and create tributes. The whole T-Series empire is built on theft of intellectual property.
