@People who Use youtube in indian history, 2 people - Akbar and Ashoka, nearly achieved a united India under common rule. Do you think in 200 years of fast improving communication services, no one could have united india? And then, just like the french revolutions, india couldn't have turned to democracy? India was the LARGEST economy of the world, 23% share of the world gdp at that time. I don't think a country that rich would have been left in ruins without british "help". British was able to achieve unification because of its small size. India being the 7 th largest country, finds that difficult to do.
@aryaroy4763 жыл бұрын
@People who Use youtube dude wtf is even your point? I know that a part of me is British, and it will never change. And honestly, i like it. What i cannot bear is people claiming that the British Empire PURPOSEFULLY helped India, or any other country. You rule a country for 200 years, loot 45 trillion dollars from it, and killed more than 30 million people(way more). You introduce railways for your OWN good, so that you can transport loot material faster through the country. English Language was introduced to form a group of Indians, who were Indian in skin color, but British in mannerisms, so that British could communicate with the Indians. NONE of the changes were made to HELP Indians. At the end of a 200 year tyranny, the country comes out democratic, and you deserve thankfulness? I don't expect Britain to pay back money it took, because how do you pay for innocent lives that were lost to the Empire? And, the present generation cannot be blamed for their ancestors' mistakes All I ask is for the British to realize what it did was wrong, and to be sorry of what their ancestors did. India doesn't need your money, as it is we have crossed your gdp. just realize what you did was wrong.

India's weakness was disunity among the small kingdoms, internal wars, religious differences and the absence of a strong empire after the Marathas. The British used this situation to the fullest to colonise India.
@ankurchaudhary35152 жыл бұрын
Actually before the Britishers arrived , there’s already a major genocide happening by Mughals particularly Aurangzeb. Maratha empire rose to prominence but after 30 years of constant warfare as well as the unity factor of Shivaji was no more . Marathas was fighting against Mughals , Portuguese in Goa , nizam at Hyderabad, South Indian kings but after got won , they didn’t got a chance to consolidate rather it breaks off very easily in internal fighting . Britishers did nothing just exploited the weakness by divide and rule policy , Indian kings hated each other more and they didn’t see Britishers as something of a coloniser at first . It’s just a trading company. Fighting was there , but it comes with disunity among smaller kingdoms .

Both languages writing format is same like in sanskrit vanarah which means monkey and in hindi it's vanar of so hindi is just modified form of sanskrit, so all languages are from sanskrit. And yes if you are talking about why Indians use english is that there are total. 26 official language and 19300+ mother tongue language in India. @Duzd14 жыл бұрын
Tom Johnson The British empire was just as bad as Nazi Germany. Scientific racism (the basis of the Nazi ideology) was born in Britain. Over a course of four centuries the British empire was the key instigator of the systematic annihilation of the indigenous cultures of three entire continents as they colonized their lands. Entire peoples and languages that no longer exist thanks to British colonialism. The British enslaved millions of Africans and purposefully caused mass famines killing millions in places ranging from Ireland to Bengal. The British didn’t solely plunder the Indian subcontinent, but also large swathes of East Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. As it occupied all of these places, the British empire played on sectarian/ethnic/religious tensions and conflict in the lands of the people they subjugated in order to effectively rule. This is still the basis for major contemporary conflicts all over the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and Africa. All of these atrocities are but a few of the crimes committed by the British Empire and can easily compete with those of Nazi Germany. This also applies to many European Empires including the Belgian, French, Spanish and Portuguese Empires. The reason that these empires were not seen to be as bad as Nazi Germany is because they mostly targeted non-whites whom the Europeans considered as barely human and inherently inferior to them. Nazi Germany is solely seen as this paragon of evil (rightly so, but other European empires are just as bad) is because Nazi Germany did to Europeans what European colonialism did to the rest of the planet for centuries.

Without these invasions the British would never have got a toe hold in the country. However going the other way was extremely difficult as the British discovered to their cost. There is a good reason why Indian rulers did not expand much beyond their boundaries at any rate to the north.

@Amelia Jones Atheist myself but it certainly seems like the UK is intent on making itself suffer- and its past, present, and future outlook are inherently warped by the evil legacy of its empire. As Franz Fanon wrote (I'm very poorly referencing here, mind)- European imperialism created, in effect- the degeneration of both the colonized and the colonizer- in the case of the colonizer (such as Britain) it comes from the racialized, ethnicized, religious notions of supremacy and bigotry- it comes from the development and economic dependence on plunder and dehumanization of the rest of the world- and so on. You can see it with the UK's slow descent from grace (if it can ever be said to have been in grace- certainly not as empire, not any rightful grace anyways) since the loss of its empire. And even to this day, with the self-destructive nature of British politics (and that of the whole Anglosphere, which I'll count as in part other than the US which is its own thing and nearing its own decline/rot). There's an inherent racism and ethnocentricism in British identity stemming from its history as empire- there's an inherent alienation from much of humanity, or even much of Europe as the "other" in contrast to the Brit- it's a social ill that will likely remain for generations onwards due to the evils of empire.

All the policies , discoveries , social and political reform were damn great thats how the British ruled the world and rest by other European powers Just a example of my south asia south asia was divided in many kindoms before British arrival.. the south asian kingdoms were very "poor comparin to Western power 'at that time" and majority tax revenue was from agriculture So then many kings there decided to let Westerners "portugees , etc to open the trade and industries in large scale where British empire not only opened the industries but also ruled over subcontinent ( very clever ) and created utilities and employment then economy rises for both Britain and south asian From the beginning , south asian had been rising voice against British empire for governing the country except British ( as British didn't hav ancestral history) which resulted today's independent countries "india , pakistan, etc After gaining independence, we can clearly see the downfall in economy where the new countries again fought in the name of land and government was higly corrupted ( i'm talkin abt after the independence but today is different ) All the colonized counties had gained many utilities and great social and political reform bcz of British empire yah but no one appreciate " cuz there's a word which is pretty well known ie. LOOT Which is baseless cuz All those colonized countries were part of British empire so the wealth is also part of it where british took many ancient stuffs in their mainland Britain ( central government) now some countries want to claim and want britain to put them back where they actually belong I guess its their "colonized countries" own fault that they wanted full independence which make them new independent countries so baseless to claim those stuffs as We human also belong to "one" civilisation so then why dont we all live together ?? It was better to be part of Britian where the ancient history could be shared as one country Or Gaining independence and do some development and learning the history instead of scratchin history ....

Lakshman Seth did this to get control of the business. It was just like conflicts between Chinese merchants and emperors. So, it's the Indian Hindu kings and merchants who actually helped the British to take on Mughal emperors. Because under mughal rule, India was rich and so-called lower catse Indians started working in textile mills and they converted to Islam leaving Hindu caste system which is dominated by upper caste who were kings, merchants, priests. So, they helped British to destroy the handlooms and overthrow the Mughals so that majority of Indians, who are so-called lower caste, cant prosper and overpower the status quo of upper caste kings, merchants, priests. @@timepasstubee Modern India without British rule If British had not conquered vast territories within India and brought it under a single rule: There would be no unified India. Instead there would have been multiple principalities which would have undergone different political, social and cultural histories to become different countries. Without unification, social reforms would have been hard to come by and the country or the principalities would have been socially regressive. Strong rulers would have turned the fortune of a few principalities and made it richer, however the rest of the country would have been much poorer than what they are today. Condition of states with fewer resources would have been much worse. With access to education restricted to an elite few, large portions of the country would still have been illiterate. Illiteracy would have led to slow industrialization and advancement in science and technology. Caste would have played a much more significant role in day to day life (than it does today) and would have hampered growth. There is a good chance China would have annexed a few statelets with its territory. There would be no unified religion called hinduism. Instead the various sects of modern day hinduism would have become independent religions. Hindi would have met the same fate. Masses who fell to famines would have still fallen to various wars waged by native warlords.

Note: they spent 30% of the money on their empire, from this 8% went to india, and the other money was used in cold war. But you Mordern day india is a little cowrdly. France and the holy roman empire made crusader armies to defend europe from muslims, india was not able to do that. And Even though britain was poorer than india after independence they still joined the cold war, something which india did not join. Forget UK! Even pakistan joined the cold war. and that is the main reason USA wanted to support pakistan in 1971 war. Forget that, India is literally called "Socialist, democratic secular federation of india" It literally has communist ideologies within it. It is the politicians who made the country poor not the people. and btw you guys think europe was never invaded. Watch history of europe by polandball 19, You will understand the number of times india was invaded was nothing compared to eastern europe
@basicnoob38323 жыл бұрын
So, by your definition, it is only the British who have ever invaded to steal and conquer. In your words (and I paraphrase), ‘we travelled to learn’. Didn’t the Maratha Empire persecute their own people? They launched six invasions of Bengal and invade Afghanistan. How about the Mughal Empire who sustained their empire by military conquest. Didn’t they also trade heavily with Europeans thus making their Empire larger and richer. Before them, didn’t the Delhi Sultanate persecute and murder across their Empire. And if we move away from the Indian sub-continent, how about all the various Chinese dynasties, the Mongol empire which stretched from Central Europe, across the Indian sub-continent and East to Japan. The Japanese invasions of China and Korea. The Ancient Egyptian Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Spanish in South and Central America, the French in Vietnam, the Germans and the Belgium’s in parts of Africa, the Dutch in Indonesia, the Romans, the Saxons and the Vikings invasions of Britain and many other places. The Moors invasions of Southern Europe, the tribal wars across Western Africa, which supplied most of the salves for the transatlantic slavery trade, the Russian empire etc etc etc. There has been hundreds of Empires across the globe. All did terrible things to gain control and maintain power. Many also did great things as well. Don’t try and paint the British as the only race to have persecuted others. As for slavery, it has existed since the beginning of civilization. Instead of spouting your ignorant nonsense and threats, why don’t you concentrate on improving modern India. How about tackling the rape epidemic sweeping the nation, or the Caste systems that protects the rapists. Just for starters. Or maybe recognize the British for some of the good they have done. For example the 20%+ of the world’s inventions and discoveries that the British are responsible for. The millions of lives saved by the discovery of penicillin by a Scottish scientist for example?

45 trillion is a ridiculous disproven figure which is predicated on the calculation that the amount stolen accumulates compounding interest each year. The figure has been impractically rising exponentially every year. Hence 45 trillion. That’s about half of the entire global economy in 2024. Yet apparently Britain stole half of that in a time where that amount of money didn’t exist. Even if you times Indias GDP in 1947 when it was highest before the British left by the amount of years Britain occupied India, adjusted for Inflation, it still doesn’t come near 45 trillion. And thats if 100 percent of the GDP was stolen by the British. Which is historically untrue.

Palatial homes in the north of Calcutta attest to that wealth. These profits were much larger in scale than the profits the Company sent back to England". Quotation from: The East India Company. The World’s Most Powerful Corporation. Tirthankar Roy, 2012 Penguin Books. Tirthankar Roy, Professor of Economic History, born and educated in India.

This $45T number is a result of compound interest over the course of Britains occupation. They applied the exchange rate at peak (4.5x) and kept a steady 5% interest rate. Extrapolating this mathematically, it would be the today's equivalent of $125M each year during the entire occupation. India was worth 35% of world GDP back then meaning that Britain would have taken .0003% of GDP at the time of arrival. Compound interest over any time frame is rather disingenuous. If you don't believe me, there are compound interest calculators online. Do the math yourself.

While that's true to an extent the Muslim and Non-muslim unity is a myth as religious conflicts were common between the Muslims and the rest because the Muslims desecrated the religious places of the Non-muslims and persecuted the Non-muslims long before the British set foot in India.

Yes Muslims and Non Muslims mainly Hindus where in conflict way before the British arrived. But when they arrived they sided with the Hindus, gave them power, weapons which was used to get Muslims to submit. This gave the British control over India as the Hindus where on there side and the Muslims did not have the firepower needed to successfully throw the British and Hindus rule.

@Comrade lmao idk about that one my guy, Islam had been in india for centuries before the British arrived, the problem is that it clashed with a pre-existing faith, so it’s unlikely it will ever spread to the majority of Indians, even Islamic kingdoms had large Buddhist and Hindu populations and can’t exact a sharia law when most people done share that faith 🤷♂️
@climax0504 жыл бұрын
@Comrade depends how you want to look at it, the Mughals were Islamic and bought a lot of great innovations with them, particularly opening up Islamic learning that was previously restricted to the Middle East, as well as bringing gunpowder weaponry into the “mainstream” but whether or not you consider that a good thing is debatable
