This is part 2 of the story of America's last living triple ace - Clarence "Bud" Anderson, and his P-51 Mustang "Old Crow". This documentary follows his stories as he battles Hitler's Luftwaffe in World War II and goes up against Germany's Messerschmitt and Focke-Wulf fighters as part of the 8th Air Force. This was made using the World War II flight simulator War Thunder. Hope you enjoy! Please like, comment, and subscribe. #WW2 #WWIIHistory #WarThunder

Historical notes: You may notice some of the other P-51s in this video are played by A-36s. This is due to a limitation with my flight simulator. Also, for the same reason, the Malcom hood is not present in this recreation. Also, Santiago Gutierrez was the only wingman Bud lost on a combat mission, but he did lose one other in training. Other than that, this one should be pretty spot on! Thanks everyone!

43-6723 (in the video) wasn't lost with Carter Jones, it was Al Boyle on Feb 21, 1944. Anderson had 43-12315 until March 22, when it went down with Jones. Never seen a picture of 43-12315 at all. Might or might not have had OLD CROW on it. 6723 had OLD CROW and the mission marks in yellow...

I am quite proud of my 3 short conversations with now Brig. Gen. Bud Anderson. What a delight to see him grin and drink my beer. He preferred the C model to the D as it was lighter and faster. Fewer guns didn't matter if you could shoot straight according to him.

The Germans were forced to heavily arm the Me-109s with extra large cannon to take down the B17s. This made these 109s far less maneuverable then they normally would be. In fact the Germans made up "light 109s" with much less heavy guns and separate " Heavy 109s" squadrons to try to correct this. The inky trouble was often because of superior allied number if aircraft the Heavy 109s ended up fighting the lighter more manauverable American Mustangs and P47 anyway.

My bad, I thought that I heard 1945 instead of 1944 when I made my initial comment about the crippled B-17F model, the B-17G models didn't begin to have a real presence until May or June of 1944, so I apologize to TJ, and anyone else who read my previous, erroneous comment, that I've now deleted. TJ has been doing a fantastic job of both researching & telling these WWII air combat stories that I'm sure that we all hope to keep seeing in the future. I haven't been able to afford to play any of IL-2's newer, mainly online simulations due to financial hardships, but I still play all of the older versions that allow me to play against the sim itself, along with several other older, favorite WWII combat air sims like SDOE & EAW. I even managed to rebuild an older computer & slowly upgrading all of the hardware, along with a friend donating his time, computer skills & parts in refurbishing my motherboard & installing a blistering new CPU setup, along with greatly enhanced memory, which allows me to play in full realism mode constantly. As soon as the money is available for me to do it, I plan on donating money to help advance TJ's efforts in giving us all of the excellent videos that he makes!!

I remember my uncle a Spitfire pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force telling me that late in the day on D Day his squadron group repositioned to the Normandy beach. On D Day+ 1 of 26 German aircraft shot down in the Normandy area 24 of them were shot down by his group. Apparently the Spitfire Mk XIV with the Rolls Royce Griffin engine was a nightmare for the Germans.

Do you have any reference for the execution of Lt. Joseph F. Pierce. Everything I see in the 357th sites on line just says KIA. It would be extremely unusual for the Germans to execute an American POW pilot, they even sent troops out specifically to catch them before the they could be murdered by enraged civilians.

Towards the end of the war, the Germans were so desperate to kill Allied Bombers, they used their own bombers. One tactic they tried was to bomb the bombers. They were literally trying to drop bombs from higher altitudes on Allied Bomber formations. If I remember right, the Germans adapted some JU88's as night fighters.

@@TJ3 shame I thought there was a date . Surely his or the squadron flight records /after action reports would if not pinpoint date , should narrow time frame considerably. Secondly , we know it was a coastal airfield , large enough to be a b17 base. Again narrowing field of search. As such there should be bomber or flight group's records but the tower/base records of activities. Getting your base buzzed by a friendly fighter pilot playing chicken with another B17 CANNOT have been a regular occurrence!!!. In my humble opinion. Alas time fades and erodes history and details. Honestly though apart from picquing my interest today, I applaud the channel, the research the graphics the narration and history . Thoroughly enjoy it tyvm
