How Buddhism disappeared from India? || कैसे भारत से गायब हो गया बौद्ध धर्म?

Welcome to my Channel. I am a history enthusiast and want to spread my knowledge to the world.
Buddhism is the world's fourth-largest religion with over 520 million followers, but only 8.4 million in India. On the other hand, India is the land of Buddha, the place where Buddha was born, got enlightenment and spread his teachings, which is known as Buddhism. But 2300 years ago, it was widely popular in India during the Mauryan era, especially in Ashoka's reign. However, due to some political and sociocultural reasons, it gradually weakened and eventually completely disappeared from India till the 15th century.
But what were those reasons? Where had the majority Buddhist population gone? We will find out all those factors in today's video.....

Bharat was not a Buddhist desh...Bharat is an ancient Polytheist Pagan civilization where people worshipped nature, animals, Earth, trees, birds, planets, sun, multiple gods, mountains, rivers, wind, energy, fire etc & believed in lifer after death like other ancient civilizations. There were a few instances in History, especially during the time of Ashoka and Harshavardhana when Buddhism was indeed popular across the country, and even much later in the South, where they vied with Shaivism/Jainism for political patronage. In India, the Monarch of a kingdom usually had a disproportionate say and power in which of the Dharmic traditions were the official one in the kingdom.

@@rahuljagarwal153 yet we have about a billion+ people with Dharmic traditions in India, and millions in other countries, who needed no conversion or preaching to. Whoever came, did so by themselves. Hinduism, isn't polytheistic, there's one apparent truth but many ways to reach it. This is why you have more than one way: - various deities with or without form (Bhakti), - self-study, meditation, and scriptural analysis (Gnana) - right action / righteous conduct (Karma) - aasanas, pranayama, dhyana (Yoga) - rituals, mantras, and visualizations (Tantra) I know I haven't covered them all, but an adherent of Dharma can follow one or more of these schools, or combinations of parts thereof or none at all. It's entirely up to them. And if you ask a monk, a tantrik or a devotee of a deity, all of them will point out that they are indeed Dharmic. There's no need for standardisation when there's unity in diversity. In fact, you don't need to identify under any of the Dharmic traditions, you can be from a monotheistic faith, yet be Dharmic. P.s.: Efforts have been made to organise and categorise the various schools of thought within Dharma in the past, especially those of Adi Shankara. Even there, Shankara didn't up with just one deity, but for example roughly classified the thousands of deities into six broad groups under Shakti, Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, Skanda and Surya.

@@rahuljagarwal153 I understand what you're saying, but I don't think just one path is a good thing, especially when you actually read the book someday and are shocked / disillusioned by what it says. I don't think the "onepath" claim of monotheistic paths are valid, which is why they have split into lots of sub-sects with each thinking all the others are wrong. Secondly, no two people have the exact same idea about their beliefs and interpretations of a book. In summary, a democratic tradition with lots of options to follow or abstain from is the way to go. Leave it to the people to do what they want to.

In Ancient India, the Monarch of a kingdom usually had a disproportionate say and power to decide which of the Dharmic traditions were the official one in the kingdom. A quick read of the scriptures available from that time, especially in Tamil literature, is plentiful and describes the struggles between the various religions and the persecution carried out. P.s.: Not all kings were Kshatriya, there're several documented cases of Brahmins, Vaishyas and Shudras who were kings.

The main weakness in Buddhism was impracticality, and double standard. Buddhism renounced every earthly things and advocated danas. It asked everyone to become monk. This aspect is counterproductive. Hinduism insisted on ashram dharmas ie brahmacharya, gruhastha, vanaprastha and sanyasa in order which is very practicable and desirable for the progress of society. Buddhism preached against killing animals during yagnyas. But in practice Buddhists didn't give up meat eating. Even Gowtham Buddha was non vegetarian. The demoralization started when women were allowed/admitted in monasteries. The immoral acts in the monasteries infuriated the general public and they started attacking the monasteries.

Just like In Sanatan Dharma, there were Shaivisim, Vaishnav, Devi Worship Sect, Buddhism and Jainism were also 2 other sects within Sanatan. Then there are Jesus followers and Mohammed Followers. It is we people who of then time who did not understand these gurus and they thought it is different from Sanatan Dharma. Sanatan Dharma does not ask anyone to follow a particular way of life or belief . There are multilple ways to attain moksha or jannat (Swarg) or God. Every guru only preached a way to self realisation OR Jihad to get connected to the Almighty. It is only people who decided Islam and Christianity are the only ways to reach God respectively and hence they wanted to ascertain that theirs is the only way to reach God. Hence all the confusion... Today both Islam and Christianity are 2 such religions who want to grow their religion by any means and that's how they are the ones (personal feelings) who are destroying the other ways of life. And that's how they turned to forcefull and cunning ways of conversions. Religion when combined with politics it becomes a dangerous way to destroy any other culture which does not follow their way of life and thoughts. All hindus who does not follow Islam/Christianity must learn to read their scriptures in old languages - Sanskrit, Tamil, Hebrew / Greek for them to teach a lesson to these new age terrorists. It is clearly these invasions and rule of non-hindus on this sacred Bharatkhand, but also Hindus themselves were also responsible for the 1000 years of forign invasions, ruling and poverty of the India that was left after 1947. All the Hindu phobia that is being spewed by many is the result of the Hindus themselves being so scared with these foreign cultures and their ruling over them. All the Hindus should and must make their kids learn and write in multiple languages especially Sanskrit, Tamil, Greek and Hebrew. Making kids to learning multiple languages is not only to be restricted to learn and read more about out pre-historic cultures and ways of life but is also important for them as their intellectual growth will also be fuelled by this learning. My kids have started learning Telugu (mother toungue) and Sanaskrit. They will soon be learning Tamil and other foreign languages by the time they complete their schooling.
