Very good video! You obviously know what you’re doing because you nailed the temperatures and the timing every time. I hate when I watch a video to the end and then they say “this is my first time trying this…”. Don’t we all?

Thank you so much for this. I was wondering how to strengthen a hairline crack. Great!

I'd wondered- about warming the adhesive to lower it's viscosity -- but I was nervous that heating the piece being repaired could cause the crack to spread. THANK YOU !

Race against time, isn’t this. This has shown me to be well set up and mentally run through the process before beginning

It seems the entire piece could be slowly warmed in an oven and held at temperature until you are ready to apply the epoxy. The torch is less precise, and the surface temp is unlikely to be the same as the internal temp of the crack. Also, for warming the epoxy, continuing the kitchen theme, a sous vide will hold the products at optimal temp until ready to mix.

Is this food safe? I have a butter bell with a crack from dropping in sink and would like to repair.

I have a favorite mug and the handle is cracked through where it attaches at the top. Would the epoxy be strong enough for this?
@LakesidePotteryCeramicArt11 ай бұрын
You may have to place a metal pin or peg. See link for how (lesson #10): lakesidepottery.com/Pages/Repairing-restoring-ceramic-porcelain-china-pottery-lessons-tutorials.html

@@LakesidePotteryCeramicArt Interesting, thanks. It doesn't apply to my mug, as the handle is still attached. Unless I drilled through the side and into the handle? What could possibly go wrong?? :D

This is so helpful but what if it’s a tall pot with a narrow opening? The crack is so small you almost can’t see it

Thanks for this video. My question is do you ever add the color to the epoxy? I have added acrylic color to epoxy on Knife handles I have made and it works well. I have a butter dish that has a crack with minimal chipping and it is a solid color and want to repair. Is there a reason you do not add color to the epoxy?
@LakesidePotteryCeramicArt2 жыл бұрын
Adding color to the epoxy will not yield precise coloring. for a seamless repair (which is most of what we do) we generate the coloring in subsequent layers - see links for more information. lakesidepottery.com/Pages/Pottery-tips/complete-ceramic-and-pottery-repair-lesson.htm lakesidepottery.com/Pages/Pictures/pottery%20and%20ceramic%20restoration%20before%20and%20after.html

Thanks for the video but how do you get rid of the giant unsightly cracks? I get that structurally it’s intact now but is there a way to make it look like it’s not all busted up and simply glued back together?

You could have used HXTAL which would have ran into the deep crack.
@LakesidePotteryCeramicArt3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input! HXTAL NYL-1 is another option which we use as well in certain application but learned that it is less practical for an average DIY user. It takes HXTAL NYL-1 one to two weeks to cure completely, mixing precision of 1-3 is important requiring an accurate scale to achieve proper ratios and it is expensive. Also, it works well only with hard non-porous ceramics.
