How did he free them? Did he have specialised army of his own that could overpower anything or did he have special way of talking to the Mongols? If that were the case, why didn't he prevent the Mongols in the first place from attacking the Muslim lands and everyone lived in it, whether they were Muslims or not?

@@samantarmaxammadsaciid5156 no it was negotiation with khan to free the prisoners. Mongol khan himself was muslim. @@samantarmaxammadsaciid5156 No, as for as i know ilkhanid mongol campaign was all sweeping, infact armenian and georgian chiristians were major ally of ilkhanid( mongol dynasty which dominated middle east) not to mention the muslims who were part of ilkhanid army(e.g Naseer ud din) .These were compaigns in palistine and syria where they were finally defeated .At the same time mongols started to convert to islam. But initially muslims mongols were also attached to their traditionall code.We are actually talking about that time. They took population of Damascus and surrounding areas captive which were overwhelmingly muslims and also jewish and christian denizens of these cities. Mongol did not took christian and jewish as POWs becuase they were non muslims, but because they were citizens of besieged and conquered lands. These non muslims used to pay a special tax to there respective Emirs and Sultans(mamluks). This was islamic tax for which respective rulers was responsible for there safety. An alternative for this is to serve in muslim army. In this context ibn e tammiya pressed for release of jewish and christian POWs.

For those who want to understand what the terminologies of the Ahlul Hadith and the Usuliyeen like Qat'i vs Zanni that Dr. Carl Sharif El-Tobgui who is very eloquent and hopefully a Salafi in 'Aqidah is talking about: Then in order to understand this you have to understand two words. 1. Riwayah (how it was transmitted). 2. Dalalah (the meaning). A) How a Nass (text) was transmitted could either be Qat'i (clear cut) or zanni (speculative). The Qur'an is Mutawaatir in its transmission and is thus Qat'i in it's Riwayah. The difference of opinion is with regards to the Ahad Ahadith. B) How a text is understood could either be Qat'i (clear cut, meaning it has only one meaning), or zanni (speculative, meaning it is open for more than one meaning). Both the Qur'an and Hadith can be Zanni in it's meaning. The Ahlul Hadith and Ahlul Bid'ah agree on the latter but not for the former i.e. the Riwayah part when it comes to the Ahad Ahadith. _Mutawaatir vs Ahad._ _The Mutawaatir_ Meaning, in each Tabaqah (generation) of the Sanad (Chain), then an unlimited people narrated the same Hadith until it becomes impossible that they could've lied. _The Ahad are of three types_ If there is a limit in one of the generations, like 3 people, then it is called Mashhur. And if it is only two in one generation, then it is called 'Azeez. And if it is only one person that narrated it in one of the generations of the chain, then it is called Ghareeb. These three: Mashhur, Azeez and Ghareeb are called Ahad. And it is these three i.e the Ahad and not the Mutawaatir that are scrutinized. A Gharib Hadith that has only one narrator in the Tabaqah (generation) of the chain, is still Qat'i in it's Riwayah according to the Salafis if it is Saheeh. For example the very first Hadith of Saheeh Al-Bukhari: "Innamal A'malu bin-Niyyat (deeds are judged by their intentions)." This Hadith was only reported by Yahya Ibn Sa'eed Al-Ansaari رحمه الله from the Tabi'is and 'Umar Ibn Al-Khattab رضي الله عنه from the Sahaba. So the first Hadith in Saheeh Al-Bukhari is a Gharib Hadith, but the chain is authentic. The Ahlul Bid'ah however regard all the Ahadith that are not Mutawaatir as Zanni in it's Riwayah. Therefore they ended up denying many Ahadith because of this. And it was the Mu'tazilah who came up with it in order to deny the Ahadith that refute their Bid'ah. The Ash'aris and Maturidis are the offshoot of the Mu'tazilah. Hamza Yusuf, a sufi ash'ari said that there are only 500 Ahadith that are in the same status as the Qur'an (i.e Mutawaatir in it's Riwayah). What he's talking about is this i.e that only those whose Ahadith are Mutawaatir in it's Riwayah (transmission) are the only the ones that are Qat'i while all the Ahad Ahadith are Zanni in the way that they were transmitted. The rulers who incline to 'irja tend to use this trick (hiyal). MBS came out denying Ahad Ahadith in order to justify his concerts and hedonistic city building. May Allah ﷻ Guide him. This thinking has opened the door to lots of sins. But it began with the Ahlul Bid'ah who wanted to deny Ahad Ahadith that refuted their neo-platonism. They denied Al-Istawa because they believe affirming it implies that Allah ﷻ is a Jism (body). But now the Fitnah is about cash flow and getting approval from the west by way of tourism, concerts or hedonistic city building, and thus MBS used this as way to justify it. As for the Dalalah (signification), then both the Qur'an and Ahadith can be Zanni (speculative and open to more than one meaning). For example the command: "Wa Aqimis-Salat (And Establish the Prayer)." The Dalalah (meaning) is Zanni because it needs a Qareenah (external) source to fulfill the command, like knowing the times of the Prayers, the conditions of the Prayer, the pillars of the Prayer and what to say etc. And all of that are found in the Ahadith. This also refutes the Quraniyun (Quranists) who deny the Sunnah. So remember that as long as the Hadith is Saheeh (authentic), then it is Qat'i. Whereas the Ahlul Bid'ah do not see Saheeh Al-Bukhari as Qat'i. Only the Salafis (Ahlul Hadith) do.

Evolution is neither Qat'i or Zanni. It is not even knowledge, but Baatil (falsehood) and Jahl Murakkab (compounded ignorance) and shirk (polytheism). Because they delegated the Attributes of Allah ﷻ to nature (atoms); that God is non-existent and thus nature regulates and creates itself, and thus it is Shirk al-Akbar (major polytheism) in Rububiyyah (Lordship), whereas a christian who argues with this type of atheist and says that God is the Creator and Regulator, this type of christian is not necessarily committing polytheism in Lordship (Rububiyyah) here, but if he managed to convince the atheist, then the christian will tell him to invoke Jesus عليه السلام or Mary عليها السلام or saints, and would thus be calling the atheist to polytheism in Uluhiyyah (Worship). But if the christian believes that Jesus عليه السلام created him, then he is a mushrik (polytheist) in both Ar-Rububiyyah (Lordship) and in Al-Uluhiyyah (Worship). Only Muslims upon Tawhid (Islamic Monotheism) are not violating Allah's ﷻ Rights in Lordship or in Worship, which is the key to Jannah (the Everlasting Gardens of Paradise). And all mankind should have this 'Aqidah (Creed) plus not saying that you will turn to dust and vanish into non-existence, because that would ascribe shortcomings like creating the world with indifference, falsehood and injustice unto Allah ﷻ if both the good and evil become equal in non-existence with one another. It would also mean that the truth was never revealed and that everyone is upon falsehood opinions until they vanish with one another, and thus the atheist is trying to convince others of worthless opinions that didn't matter once his atheism renders him equal with everyone that he disagreed with. And thus truth was never their objective as it never existed, rather not having desires, addictions or remote worldly hopes yet to be reached not being spoiled was their drive. And thus they were willing to corrupt this abode of deeds of ours that determines our eternal existence to come for selfish desires when it didn't matter if they even did that. Thus the conclusion is that atheists are a menace. That's why they end up as nihilists and anarchists due to their disbelief in Al-Aakhirah (the Afterlife). Allah سبحانه وتعالى said, وَأَنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا And that those who believe not in the Hereafter, for them We have prepared a painful torment. [Al-Israa' 17:10] Atheists are not atheists by definition, but polytheists in Rububiyyah like the pharaohs and the tyrant that argued with Ibraheem (Abraham) عليه السلام in Surah Al-Baqarah. Whereas christians are similar to those whom the Prophets were mainly sent to i.e. those who believed that Allah ﷻ created them and provides for them but would not cease invoking angels, jinn, men or using idols as intermediaries, sacrificing and offering to them. The former is a mushrik (polytheist) in Rububiyyah (Lordship) while the latter is a mushrik in Uluhiyyah/'Ibadah (Worship) if he does not say that a man (Jesus عليه السلام) created him. Most of mankind are polytheists in worship and not polytheists in Lordship.

SubhanAllah it is amazing how the Ummah is totally in sync. These are exactly the issues I am dealing with regarding my assignments as a Religious Studies major at a secular University. I've literally been suffering from imposter syndrome regarding my intentions behind pursuing my major-because in secular institutions, it is considered more academically erudite to "step-outside" of one's faith, whereas in Islam, we seek knowledge only for the sake of God. Of course one cannot serve two masters, and if it comes down to either comprimising my faith out of a desire to be "loved" by progressive institutions, or to remain a firm believer and potentially be derided and swallowed by the lion within the colosseum pit of the Greek ampatheter, then InshAllah I will holdfast to what is right in preference to what is easy. With regard to the Mutazillah, it is amazing how history repeats itself given our dynamics nowadays. And success is only by God.

Quite intriguingly, Imam Ibn-e-Taymiyah was introduced in Muslim India by none other than Shah Waliy-ullah: the most outstanding scholar of Muslim India. Abul Kalaam Azad in his book "Tazkara" refers to him [Ibn-e-Taymiyah] as the crown of classic Islamic scholarly tradition.

Paul, Carl. Thanks for the presentation and, Carl, for making your book available for free via PDF - if time allows, I'll try to tackle it! Vis a vis 1:20:00, I find myself agreeing with you regarding the nature of science and the interpretation of texts. ..... Not to detract from this argument. But I did note some studies on the topic of parthenogenesis (i.e. virgin birth) - I'm not able to post links to an example paper in youtube here though. I haven't studied the subject to any great extent nor do I have the expertise to interpret the studies, so not making any kind of statement on this topic beyond that of being just a curiosity for your interest vis a vis the conversation.

related to reasoning in Quranic verses yes there r several verses in Quran which reveals that God's knowledge is not perfect & several verses also antagonize the claim & declaration of verses which say God has timeless knowledge that is before the existence of this universe till the resurrection day # among those verses is the verse " الان قد علم ان فیکم ضعفا" " now i ( God ) know that U ( believers ) had weakness " # this verse clearly declares that God didn't know that believers had weakness till the weakness manifested #

This was a profound episode. Thank you to both you and Prof El-Tobgui for showing how Ibn Taymiyya's method of approaching these topics can be applied in the modern context. My main takeaway from this episode was the discussion on Scientism and how science is really just a way of examining patterns within the physical world and is not the all-encompassing belief system many take it as in our times.

@@BloggingTheology Pauline christianity and Ash'ari school ,for example, have created new language and meanings to fit their creed, and this new "language" can't be found in the scriptures. Ask christians about the word (one) and see how they bring to you a new meaning for it, which is not found in the bible at all. Also, ask Ash'aris about the word (speaking/speach), and see how they go through all sort of gymnastic to tell you that ( speaking) originally does not involve voice and letters in Arabic language to fit their notion that God didn't speak with Moses with His Voice otherwise and from their perspective God goes under change which can't be true about what God is. I know! It is headache as much as the trinity unfortunately. May Allah have mercy on Ibn Taymyyiah.

Khalid it seems like you’re referring to the sufi and kalami (if you mean Ash’ari) strawman in your mind. Ash’arism, if you would know anything about them, are the ones that rejected the pure rationalism of the philosophers adopted by pauline christianity, 99.9 percent of the work against rationalism has carried out by Ash’aris. And they are the ones that literally wrote the book on Usul al Fiqh, and hadith sciences. I urge you to do some real research instead of spewing hate against Ash’aris and sufis.

@@abukarali2966 I know what I am talking about. Ibn Al-'Arabi, the student of Al-Ghazāli, said " our sheikh Al-Ghazāli engulfed philosophy, but once he wanted to vomit it, he couldn't" i.e. he has been influenced heavily by it. In fact, Al-Ghazāli himself criticized what so called tawhìd in kalāmi school by saing "it has nothing to do with the companions of the prophet peace be upon him". He said that in his book ( Iljām Al-'awām). It is a historical fact that most what salaf criticized against Mu'tazilites is applicable also for Ash'ari school. After all, the ash'ari school is an offshoot of the Mu'tazili one. This is a historical fact which can't be denied.

@@Khaledf do yoi realize that Imam Ibn Arabi al Maliki himself is Ash’ari like 99 percent of all the imams in every science of the Qur’an? How are the Ash’aris an offshoot of the Mutalzila when they are the ones who got rid of them. You’re spewing simplistic Wahhabi propaganda! You are saying that 99 percent of the Ulima of Islam have been upon misguidance since the time of Imam Ash’ari. Ibn Taymiyya’s criticism of the universal law is best for laymen because the scholars have a job to make things clear and go deep into problems and they can’t just blindly follow like the rest of people. So in a way both Imam Razi and Imam Taymiyya are correct.

@@Khaledf They can, because for scholars they have a job to make things clear and defend against attacks to the religion. So they can’t just say the Quran said so.
