Future video on EMDR, including study-based evidence? I've done it and have mixed feelings. It was probably less effective because I have CPTSD instead of PTSD, so specific memories don't stick around and cause problems for me as much as behavioral and emotional patterns in response to the trauma.

I also have CPTSD, it was not helpful for me either. Made my dissociation a lot worse.

I would also be interested in this! My psychiatrist has suggested emdr for my (most likely complex, but she didn’t make a differentiation) ptsd but I’m nervous it’ll make my dissociation and psychotic symptoms worse too.

I have diagnosed PTSD and EMDR worked wonders. I spent a few years with a certified therapist trained in it, and had a few bad times as I worked through some things, but the end results were worth the effort. The key to success is to have a certified therapist, and dedicate yourself with the understanding that while things might be difficult at times during the process, life as it is w/o the therapy will continue to be as difficult and degrade. A few sessions won’t help, and any therapist who tells you they will is dead wrong.

EMDR…Having to goto each specific individual traumatic moment is stupid.

@@monicab8176 precisely. If you were chronically abused all sorts of ways through childhood, how can you get past the dissociative amnesia you developed to protect yourself from it?

My father was really abusive and I was scared of him. I watched him beat my mom and tapped her in front of me. I saw my brother get beat and experienced beatings myself. So bad that the state almost took me away from my mom. Till this day inhale flash backs and nightmares. Also I was afraid of my moms dad. He was a sicko. Although he never sexually abused me. I walked on eggshells when we had to live with them for a short time. And I also had a horrible and emotional abusive boss who on a daily basis said and did things to hurt me. I have PTSD bad. Always on alert. I almost was kidnapped twice and I had a teach who apparently was a child molester and I blacked most of my 1sr grade. It’s very hard to live with

The sarcasm is appreciated. The key is to keep tricking yourself it'll go away because eventually it does but unfortunately comes back. They key is grind hard when your mood is "light" & in therapy/self therapy or journalling & eating well with lots of water. The small wins provide a buffer or net to keep you alive.

hope it's going well. EMDR has been life changing and super effective for me. My therapist warned me at the start that it works that way for some people, and for others, there is little effect. Hope you are on the effective side, but also hang in there. While I felt some effects initially (mostly irritability!), I didn't start seeing reduction in intrusive thoughts and depression for several sessions.

@@tehguitarque I am currently in discussions with my therapist on whether it would be right for me. Also, I'm not sure if I should start it right now as I am going overseas in a month and would hate to become ill with re-traumatization when I'm away. It could hit me in a bad way when I'm far from help. Not a good thing.

With everybody claiming they have PTSD it devalues it in a way. Growing up in abusive childhood trauma versus not be happy about how an election went is like apples and oranges. I have learned how to deal with my PTSD through DBT but my symptoms can be hardcore and only through skilled management can I live a good life.

EFT Tapping/Emotional Freedom Techniques has a lot of science behind it. So much so that it is now considered an option for PTSD/PTS by the VA in the United States. Of course, be sure to find a licensed mental health professional using EFT if you have a diagnosis like PTS or C-PTSD.

EMDR has proven to be a godsend to me. It takes several years of work, but it gives results. I’ve read where people claim it doesn’t and give up after a few weeks, no it won’t work that fast, it takes time and dedication, but it is much faster than traditional therapy which can take decades.
