I am super jealous of what they have created over there, we have NOTHING like that here in the states, closest we got is junkyards with a huge markup and we can't sell our parts to them. I wish we had Up Garage everywhere in the states..This is the purest and best form of recycling.

A bit of recent JDM history - the last time I visited Japan (2015) this UpGarage in Minami Machida was a smaller, more humble single floor shop. The wheels shop was the riders (motorcycle) shop where I found many cool racing jackets! The downside to this expansion is next door there used to be an used car shop and car restoration garage Fly Rat. I had a wonderful chat with a mechanic working there and he took me back into the garage to show me a beautiful Z. I was a bit sad to see that UpGarage swallowed up that whole space, but I couldn’t think of a better shop to do it. If you have any way to find out information of Fly Rat garage Captain, that would make for a cool video if they moved locations and are still around ! Also, I had no idea Tomei was only a block away....

I wish we had them or something like it here in the states! Just a heads up for anyone visiting Japan with out a car. The larger stores that are typically well outside the cities have the nicer selection by far. I visited the smaller one in nerima that's easier to get to out of Tokyo by train. It's still worth the trip but just don't go expecting a part selection this good. I'd probably check out Crooober to see if the store you plan to visit has anything for your car. As for security at the airport. They didn't seem to mind the spare parts in the suitcase.

I go often to japan and you are discovering a brand new world to me. Because I only speak very basic Japanese, I often miss on this kind of places. I was forced to cancel my trip to japan in march-april due to the coronavirus pandemic (I had rented a GT-R R34 and I planned to go to いろは坂 with it), but once the pandemic is over I'll definitely return to japan and visit places like this that you are discovering to me.

@@DA_BEEEEEAAAAAAMS there's a reason why japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world You have to compete with a lot of smart people to get a job, and even then you get paid very little and you have to work overtime a lot. And combine that with outrageously expensive housing you're gonna live a miserable live. The same thing happened to south Korea. There's even a term in japan for people that dies by overworking, look it up on KZbin.

Its kinda contradicting seeing how throw away they look at things. Like anything used especially cars is tossed out quite quickly for new cars and technology.

@@DC-zh6om you don't understand The Japanese take good care of what they like and use it for a very long time. In Japan, unlike America, people don't buy new things one after another. Selling to a store like this is not the same as throwing it in the mountains. The reason for selling to such a store is various, not because they got tired of the parts or not because they want something new. Most Japanese use it for a long time until it becomes unusable. These are just a few exceptions to the whole. Japanese people use things they like for a very long time.
