It is not the job of our priests to promote their personal political party affiliation. The Catholic Church does not endorse either party. For every Catholic position the Republican or Democratic Party supports there hare a number of platforms that are not in there line with our Church’s teachings. This holds true for both parties. It is out of line for a priest to push a party on our congratulations.

I agree. I was not confused, I was angry that they speak this ugliness in the alter. I found it hard to follow Mass in the month leading up to the elections. I am pro life, and I am Catholic. I voted for Biden. I voted my conscience, I felt it not their place, the priests, to tell me how to vote.

I was raised and confirmed Catholic, but I left the Church because of the priests & deacons saying things similar to Cardinal Burke - they preached a cruel & rigid message. I became more of an independent Christian, inspired by the Lutherianism of Kierkegaard & Paul Tillich. During the pandemic, I've been reading a lot of Catholic social teaching, and Catholic theology, and the history of the Church, and I've realized I was miseducated in the faith when I was growing up. I plan on returning to the Church and becoming a practicing Catholic again after the pandemic when it becomes safe to attend mass.

excellent journey. the tradcaths act so superior but in reality they are totally ignorant of political reality and they barely understand their religion. They are just going off gut instinct reactionaryism. Once you read real Philosophy you understand the church as a political institution and realize you have a right to engage in and affect its discourse. What wonderful message that nuance matters, there's not one issue, it's not black and white, and that there are some messages from people in our church that are incredibly divisive and based in hate. A Catholic bishop walked by but he was in a hurry as he had to attend a meeting with a potential donor. The a business executive dashed past. Oh, a good Catholic, pillar of the community... But had a meeting with the bishop and couldn't be late. Then a gay person came along and was saddened to see this person in pain. So he stopped, pulled out a new T-shirt he had just bought and used it as a tourniquet. He then called 911 on his cell, and when the ambulance arrived, accompanied the victim to the ER, paid the bill, and ensured that the victim would receive the needed care. He checked the victim's condition daily and when the victim was released, he drove her to her apartment, bought her some groceries, picked up the medicine the doctors prescribed and continued to check on her. His husband also took turns assisting and staying in touch. I'm sure the bishop and the business executive had a fine meeting but the gay person and his husband were the true neighbors.

The issue is were you Baptized in the Catholic Church, if you were, you are still a Catholic because Baptism is indelible, permanent,. When you stand before God He will note that you were Baptized in the Catholic Church, you will correct him, and say you were rebabtized in another church, you are no longer a Catholic, He will say, excuse Me! It's so sad. I loved my parish. I've been there for 20 years, put a lot of time into its many ministries, leading a women's scripture study, VBS, parish council. And those in the parish have given so much to me, helping me through a difficult loss. But beginning some years ago, things have been very hard to take. Silence on the stolen children. False accusations of politicians that were not t-p, spreading false stories on health care. And finally, the Sunday after the Jan. 6 attack. Deafening silence at Mass from our pastor. Not a word condemning violence. Then, before and after Mass on several Sundays (when we should be silent) various parishioners spreading different conspiracy theories, saying these things loud enough for others to hear. It's just too much. Emailed the pastor, and more silence. The outdoor Mass of a nearby parish has become so full they've had to return to reservations. My home parish is half full. True Catholic Christians are sick to death of these lies. Many, including most of two generations have left the Church for good, and will continue to.

We did send our complains to our parish priest about what toxic homily our young priest has said about the vaccine and defending trump’s craziness. Our parish priest did listen and apologized during his homily and wrote a letter on our parish bulletin. He even said that the young priest will not be doing the mass for awhile. I'm a new subscriber to this channel, and so glad I found it! I have subscribed to America Magazine for some years now. I am a Catholic Democrat who has felt alienated as Fr. Martin has mentioned. My voter's guide is found in Matthew 25:31-46 in which Jesus explicitly describes what the Judgment of the Nations ("people groups"...this is not a reference to modern nation states) will look like. In that passage, Jesus separates the nations as the sheep from the goats. He goes on to judge them on the basis of what they did or didn't do for the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger (immigrant, or poor wanderer), the unclothed, the sick, and the prisoner. He added that whatsoever they did to the least of these His brethren, they did it also to Him. It seems to me that many Catholics (and Evangelical Protestants) have either forgotten, ignored, or were never taught about God's preferential concern for the poor. How can one be a faithful Catholic and not try to come up with some way to welcome those poor migrants at our southern border? Where is our new and improved Ellis Island? The vast majority of those migrants are Catholics! Also, I believe the key to reducing and even ending abortion is not criminalization, but adhering to Catholic social teaching. Why aren't we promoting affordable health care, child care, education, and transportation. Other developed nations with broad access to abortion nevertheless have low abortion rates (and less promiscuity, btw) though they're not thought of as religious peoples. Why? If there is an unplanned pregnancy, there is no financial impediment to having and raising the child, even if you are a single mother.

I believe that being pro-life is believing in all life as representing God’s creation. I believe the decision is between the woman and her God. Her relationship with God is what matters. The same Americans rioting the Capitol were protesting the government and not wanting the government to dictate their rights.

“Violence” is antithetical to Christ. What is it that Jesus said to Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane? “Don’t you think if I wanted, I could ask my Father to send angels down from heaven to wipe out my enemies.” Something like that. Priests inciting parishioners to violence is never a good thing. Even John Lennon, who didn’t seem to have much use for religion, knew better than that.

You are wrong. Jesus had already tried to destroy the temple, which had turned into a bank, through violence against the changers, as he had destroyed many pagan temples also. Its definitive destruction, though, could be achieved only through his own blood. But even when he was about to be crucified he commanded his disciples to buy swords. He could have commanded angels to defend him and he taught his disciples how to call them. But the infamous temple would be still standing had he merely defeated its occupiers militarily. He was the only bomb capable of destroying it for good and of destroying in the future any tentative reconstruction of it. But even while doing so he commended in advance, starting with Cornelius, the Roman legionaries that would later do their duty demolishing it. He never asked Cornelius to relinquish his station, but only to refrain from looting.
