Holy shit! This was my iPod! A friend emailed when he saw my name in the video, and that's definitely the music I had on an iPod. Blaster the Rocketman is a dead giveaway. I must have sold this at a garage sale (without the dents) 10 years ago or more. I wonder how it made its way to you. Awesome.

The foam trick is critical. I just helped a friend who thought his 4th Gen Photo was gone (had the sads). Found online that the OG hard drives sometimes just needed a bit of pressure on the hard drive connector because they easily could stop working. Proud to say I was able to crack it open and pop a pice of pelican case foam inside and it instantly started working. Thanks for the inspo, good look with the foam, and thanks for a sort of basic guide here.

What I've noticed is that some "broken" iPods, particularly 4th generation ones and Minis need to be connected to Firewire or and older dock in order to have enough power to charge the battery and spin up the drive, especially if it has sat for a long time.

I found both cheap CF adapters on Aliexpress and combined they only cost $25 NZD including shipping so looking forward to trying this. Also yup we have Cash Converters here in NZ but for some reason the ones in Aussie look life they have much more cheap random crap than the ones in NZ - The Aussie ones look like Salvation Army stores to me. I used these same cheap parts to upgrade my daily 3G a while back. All was well until one day, due to circumstances I won’t get into, it suffered an 8 foot fall onto concrete. It continued working for a minuet before it had a panic attack. Being a student, I didn’t have time to sit down and properly fix it, so in the middle of a math test I used my student ID card to pry it open and found out the whole drive slid out of the socket. TLDR I should have used a bracket of some sort, and yes it worked after plugging in the drive. Had to reseat the battery however and the clock was never accurate after doing that. It would always go fast no matter how often I set it manually.

2:28 _"They're lighter"_ Me: adds a weight plate to a 5.5 gen when modding it, in order to have it weigh the same as it did originally...
Funny story: I've been binging DankPods videos for the past 3 days and this is the oldest video I've seen thus far. What I find interesting is watching the evolution of a KZbinrs persona. The first few years they're usually pretty much themselves, and as they experiment, they find that leaning on inflections, accents, or cadence (see Dolan Dark or Chills or whoever) will be more entertaining for viewers. Then I start thinking about the juxtaposition of the on screen persona and when they have to "turn off" and eat dinner with the family. I'd be the nerd to try my hand at it just to document the development process... except I'm not creative enough. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is: Love to see the difference between 2020 DankPods and 2023 Dankpods. Good on ya.

Been watching for a while now. I have a few questions if you have a chance to answer them. 1st, have you ever had to replace the battery connector on the logic board? mine broke off on my 6th gen :( 2nd, I also have a 3rd gen that I bought when I was a child, never got it to turn on back then but I was wondering do iPods even try to turn on with a bad battery? I should just order one and find out. Also not sure but does it need Firewire to charge and USB to transfer data? Sorry for the noob questions :) Hope you are staying safe with this Corona virus stuff! Cheers man, take it easy.
