Huge fan of the docs and this game in particular. I wish you would have touched on moderation in the game as well. Chivalry has one of the most toxic communities I've seen and there's either no or abhorrently slow moderation to the in-game chat.

I think it'd be super neat if other developing houses were able to throw tons of money at the team behind Chivalry to develop their swordplay. Imagine not just Sea of Thieves with Chivalry's system slotted in, but also TES: 6!

The problem with SoT swordplay: doesn't matter if you button mash or time your swings, you get the same animations regardless. I understand it though. They don't want 1 man to kill 4 people so easily (though doable).

23:29 The reason I stopped playing Chiv 2 was because of Auto-Team balance when im on the winning team and high or top of the scoreboard. And the hacks that have not been addressed where an entire match can be lost if someone exploits a whole where they can hide the final boss character, or go to the beginning of the map outside of the spawn zone of everyone else runing the entire game MULTIPLE times.
@Nobody2important3 жыл бұрын
When you get auto-balanced, nothing is preventing you from simply changing back to your original team. The running outside of the map exploit has been fixed.

Even though this is a documentary, this has some teachings in them. It's not fully in-depth like Game Makers Toolkit but deep enough to make you think and make you understand how things work and how the developers came up with ideas and solutions to proplems, problems that are not really problems but they had to identify that if every sound has the same weight to it it's a problem because you can't distinguish between it. It might not be realistic but for a game that's something really important. I love how they paid attention how to convey meaning only through sound, really clever. And the name "Danny of Dwyer" is fun :D

still wish they woulda added the butcher/cannibal class I suggested in alpha: physically weaker maa variation with only limbs and butcher knives as weps, severed head as throwable, special lets you consume a limb to gain small amount of health back or "cook" one to make med bag like other classes. Woulda played similar to the backline vanguard class but always thought that one needed some variation in incentive (class and special pushes towards throwing knife play and wanted one that pushed towards backlining specifically)

I feel like, when it comes to designing swordfighting, the Mount & Blade series has done a far better job. It moves from first to third person (with first person being an option, but generally considered to be restrictive), and really shines with a simple yet extremely effective and deep combat system. While the games themselves are spotty (the first two games in the series are rather janky, and the most recent version, Bannerlord, has a terrible multiplayer design), its combat system allows for in depth duels, large scale fights, and good mounted combat. Certainly worth a look, I think.

Try PVK II. Only a handful of players, but it's a free HL mod. Basically the same combat system as M&B, with the addition of 'perfect parries' and 'chip damage' (on charged attacks). Definitely my top 3 MP game, not just melee combat one.

I love this game. It's rare that a game comes around with a combination of satisfying gameplay, gorgeous maps, and just plain fun.
