Christmas trees, grown as monocrops with heavy pesticide use, harm ecosystems and endanger health. Post-harvest, they reach markets, exposing people to pesticides, while post-celebrations see them ending up in landfills or burned, emitting harmful gases.
Artificial trees aren't a sustainable alternative, contributing to a heavy carbon footprint through production and transportation. Justifying their use requires keeping them for about 10 years, after which they too contribute to environmental damage in landfills.
Beyond trees, Christmas celebrations fuel extravagant consumerism, contributing to carbon emissions and environmental harm. Our culture needs to shift towards sustainable practices to ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
