For the House and Senate, Electoral College CAN be fine (once gerrymandering districts is addressed), but for the actual President it should always come down to the popular vote. Currently, that means using Wyoming's population, which would give California 15 more seats in the House than it has now. Other large states are also grossly under-represented. That would take an amendment to the constitution of the US. Maybe two amendments. First to take States rights given by the Constitution. No State would ratify such a proposition. Wouldn't fly. Try getting all fifty to ratify no way. You can't change voting laws uniformally. Each State is different even counties or parishes elections may differ in a State. The Constitution says States run they're elections. It bogeles the mind? How long did it take to ratify the actual constution? Plenty to see there.

I'd also like to point out that the entirety of the legislation around "corporate personhood" was based on a willful & shameless misinterpretation of the law which was intended to give slaves personhood. Since slaves were treated as property, constitutional lawyers needed to find legal terms to bring "property" into a state of personhood. That good anti-slavery legislation was used to give corporations the same rights & legal protections as the freed slaves. Citizens United is an extension of the evil that was perpetrated back then, and the whole durn pile of legal BS needs to be shoveled out back & buried.

As a strongly liberal leaning independent, I agree that money in politics as a problem, but I honestly don't think it is AS big of a problem as the exceptionally poor representation voters are provided. In districts where gerrymandering hasn't completely defeated the electoral process, the winner often barely represents HALF of the people there. And even then, most people I know are voting for "their" party because it is the least worst choice available to them, not because they actually agree with everything that the party stands for. There are a lot of things that we need in this country, but electoral reform should be one of the first among them.
