I’ve been watching this man do this type of work for over 10 years now. Not once have I ever heard a bad review.

Why do they have to vent going out of the roof? GREAT VIDEO AND EXPLAINATION!
@advsLLC8 ай бұрын
Usually, it's because going through the roof is the shortest route to the exterior... Depending on where you live, that may sound crazy however it is very normal in the southeastern US. Thanks for your thoughts!

I have the same problem, our laundry room is not close to the exterior wall, so the builder sent the exhaust vent to the roof.

@@laghmanee If I had to guess a percentage, I'd bet, in the Charlotte, NC metro area, a minimum of 45% of homes have a dryer vent that exits via the roof... Let me guess, your home is either built on a slab, or it's multiple stories with the dryer on the top floor... That's typically the only times they'll run the DV through the roof... Thx for watching!

I have a 2nd floor laundry room with plumbing and electric in a longer interior wall. The washer and dryer are located against this wall with the dryer vented through the roof instead of the exterior wall for the front of the house. Better aesthetics and space maximization, but it’s a huge hassle. There’s a slight bend in the vent at the ceiling meant to prevent lint from making it to the roof, but it doesn’t work. And the builder left the screen on the vent cap. The first time I had the vent cleaned, the tech removed the screen and built a larger mesh box around the cap. Lets lint out and keeps the birds out. I have to use the leaf blower once a month to keep the vent clear (installing a secondary lint filter is hard and has not been totally effective). And I don’t do ladders, especially with the steep pitch of the roof. Didn’t think about this at all when the house was being built. If I had, I would have flipped the floor plan and vented the dryer out the back exterior wall.

I just found out that my dryer duct is venting directly into my attic and there is no vent. Would you recommend me running ductwork to the outside wall and cutting through the brick or should i simply install a roof vent for it? I'm torn between the extra work and cutting to run it through the wall(i believe my water heater may need in the way) and going through the roof since i know it will require more maintenance and cleaning/higher fire risk
@advsLLC10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question! Exit point really depends on the linear footage required... If running the vent out of the side adds an additional 10'-15', the roof is a much better idea... The goal, in the end, is to have the shortest vent possible! And regardless, you need to vent it to the exterior ASAP! You're pumping a lot of humidity into your attic and as you know, wood + water = an expensive repair bill!

What is causing the lint to come up the vent? Wouldn't gravity be making it go down the vent to the dryer?
@advsLLC11 ай бұрын
The hot air rises and carries the lint with it. It happens quite often in a shorter vent system due to the high CFM (cubic feet per minute) so the force of air alone is enough to force the lint to the roof cap in this instance. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
@mikesweeney572411 ай бұрын
Oh ok. Is the dryer running while you do the cleaning?
@advsLLC11 ай бұрын
ABSOLUTELY!!! That way, as I run the brush through the vent, the air pushes the lint out of the structure. Otherwise, you run the risk of pushing the lint into a clog that's worse than the original. Thanks for watching and for your question!

When you clean the vent from the roof, do you come inside to clean the dryer vent that is connect to the dryer? For roof vents, can you use brush from the dryer vent opening inside of the home and go/push upward to the roof?

Do you do residential and commercial? I am wondering how long I would have to wait to get this done.

What system are you using
@advsLLC Жыл бұрын
I use a 33' "NIKRO Industries" vent cleaning brush. I've used all brands throughout the years however this one seems to be the highest quality. Definitely not cheap however quality matters when using multiple times daily. Thanks for your comment and please ask any other questions you may have!

I didn't realize that dryer vents could be up on a roof! That's dangerous for most people to do!

If I had to guess, I'd say 40%-45% of dryer vents in the Charlotte Metro area.
@alejandro34856 ай бұрын
Coming from NY and NJ all my life, where the vent is right next to the actual dryer unit going outside on the ground level, buying a house in FL with the dryer vent on the roof makes you wonder what builders are thinking. Yes it’s probably the shortest distance to the dryer but it’s literally the least accessible place to put something that needs routinely cleaned.
@laghmanee5 ай бұрын
If the vent goes to the roof, do they always have to be cleaned from the top down? I got my vent cleaned, first time in this house that we moved to. And now the dryer is over heating. We never had issue before. The guy came back and said it is the vent issue and he said there might be a damper gate that stuck. :-( We never had issue before. I just wanted to be cleaned.
@advsLLC5 ай бұрын
No... It doesn't have to be cleaned from the exterior however you can't say the vent is clean and functioning correctly without inspecting the end point. The damper door/louvers, whether it's on the roof, or the side of the home, catch so much lint that it doesn't open. Also, if only cleaned from the interior, you run the risk of pushing lint into a clog. I suggest putting a leaf blower in the vent and see what kind of blowback you get! Let us know!!!
@pjg19751 Жыл бұрын
Either I don't know lint, or that family had several dogs. It looks like you pulled mainly dog fur out of that vent.
@advsLLC Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! When a machine pulls that much CFM, it’s sucking that air from your home as well as anything close by!

I try to schedule only a couple days out. Otherwise, folks get antsy and call other companies simply trying to get their problem handled. AND I DON'T BLAME THEM! We want our dryer to clean our clothes on OUR schedule and not the other way around! I'm here to help if you're in the Charlotte, NC Metro area! 704-846-VENT(8368) or www.almetaldryervent.com !

Ive never seen a dryer vent on a roof.
@advsLLC Жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, there are A LOT of dryer vents that exit via the roof! It's actually a great path as long as it's the shortest route, AND the roof damper, aka roof cap, is installed correctly AND the roofer REMOVED THE SCREEN that comes with every roof damper. Reason is, they use the same damper for dryer vents as well as bath fans or really anything you want vented. They all come with a screen when purchased. You keep the screen in for every application EXCEPT dryer vents! The screen will eventually catch the residual lint and block all airflow. Thus causing the heating element to overheat and blow. Either the element or the thermal fuse will give and you then have an appliance repair bill as well as dealing with the problematic vent. Hopefully that makes sense however I'm here if you have any other questions! THANKS!

This is why I bought a kit so I wouldnt need to do this. Not risking it. Its not pleasant but its less risk.
