I think it's a silly thing to correct people about. Yeah it's technically wrong to call it "unlucky", but at the end of the day no one's arguing that their bad experience was ACTUALLY unfavorable random chance instead of them messing up. If you call an experience "unlucky" everyone immediately knows what you mean.
@BadChess56Ай бұрын
Sometimes you can be unlucky, for example your keyboard and mouse cut out, but yeah that's pretty rare.
@ironpawthe1Ай бұрын
When it comes to saying that something is unlucky, at least from my experience it comes when you die to an easy section or to a section that you never die to. For example, I was playing Acu yesterday and died to the 88% (I think) dash orb twice, a place I usually pass with ease. I think that's pretty unlucky. The better word would be a stupid death but honestly it sometimes feels completely out of your control.

The biggest thing about luck in GD, is the fact that it's a deterministic game, meaning if you click and let go at the exact same time, every time, you'll get the exact same results, only changing based on FPS. That's how bots work, it records your inputs, and replays them exactly, every click and release, every hold, every drop, to perfectly re-create what you did, and basically play it out for you, again. With that, the only thing that could be truly classified as lucky or not, would be if you got something like an insane lag spike that couldn't have been predicted. Luck, nowadays, is a term used to describe playing poorly, as opposed to describing something outside of their control that happened, a rather more deterministic word, from it's true definition, rather just to be used to describe a good or bad outcome, as opposed to one outside of their control.

If you are playing a level that requires so many timings that are so few frames, you can only be so precise and are bound to be within a frame or two on some of the timings. Especially with most input devices being imperfect, it’s hard to blame that on lack of skill. Cool video idea though! I might do this myself.

I have a very odd relationship with the word “luck” in Geometry Dash, that pretty much stems from all three of my most recent hardests - Doradura, Black Blizzard, and Sunset Sandstorm. To start with, Doradura - partly because of my own skill issues, partly because flow-based Extremes are probably the farthest thing from my skillset in this game, and partly because I was playing on a 60hz iPad, Doradura is without a doubt the worst experience I have ever had in this game. The last 30% of gameplay (notice I said “of gameplay”, as the level ends at 91) was absolutely FULL of random chokepoints and transitions that flat-out WOULD NOT WORK on 60hz, whether it was a wave-to-cube transition being entirely dysfunctional or a dash orb acting completely different from attempt to attempt. (All of the bugs were completely fixed with 2.2 + a 240hz PC, by the way.) When I say I died in the last 40% of the level 291 times, that’s not a joke - I really had that many deaths, and only about half of those were actually to something skill-based. Not only was my experience with Doradura more abysmal than any experience I have had before or since, but I’d go as far as to say that it was worse than any experience any victor has had with the level, by a long shot. Black Blizzard and Sunset Sandstorm, on the other hand, took the idea of getting unlucky and COMPLETELY turned it on its head. Black Blizzard is by a long shot the luckiest experience I’ve ever had with this game, with Sunset being a close second. In my Black Blizzard completion attempt, there were about 10 places in the ship/ball dual alone where I should have died, but I somehow managed to fluke pretty much the entire dual - I fluked the level from 65 and only got to the dual twice from 0. Meanwhile, with Sunset, there were just so many chokepoints in the last 20% that I should have died to. Particularly the transition at 86% - I did the last click extremely awkwardly, just barely had enough room to squeeze by the sawblade, and despite my absolute panic, I managed to keep the run alive and beat it that attempt. I only died in the UFO six times from 0, with a worst death of 79%, and took just over 12.4K attempts. (For reference, Black Blizzard took me 25.4K.) In contrast to Doradura, I’d actually say my experience (for lack of using the L-word) was amongst the best of any victor, and I don’t know how. Do I think luck exists? Definitely - there’s always going to be a margin of error when it comes to levels, whether that’s with the level itself or the player. But nerve control is also absolutely crucial - there’s a reason I’ve been able to fluke, or at least get relatively good experiences with, pretty much all of my Extremes since Doradura; my nerve control is significantly better than it was back then. Geometry Dash and beating very difficult levels may rely considerably on luck, but it does not do so entirely. Great video btw :D

@@turtlgd definitely involves some luck. The way I think of gd is that there’s a paradox where the better you are the less luck is involved on the player side (more control over your icon), but the more luck is involved on the level side (stupidly hard clicks like you mentioned)

@@bluecore1027 it would definitely be tough to find a collection of close deaths but if I somehow manage to I could make a video out of it. I would def consider dying by 1 or 2 frames unlucky (for me) since I consider surviving by 1 or 2 frames is lucky
