Got into this to make money since I was down but keep listening to all of you and listening I did. I probably won't sell anything right now but I will get better at taking photos of all these errors that I've found and that I'm hoarding. Trust me after seeing the coins that I have I will never see another coin or currency the same way and not just from here but any coin and currency. Thank your time Daniel

This is exactly what I've been wanting to know .I've often wonder why no one had a diagram of the minting coin process. Beautifully done thank you .
@masterofcents.81755 жыл бұрын
That is a great way to determine where in the process your error happened or variety. I will use images from there as examples along with some of the coins that I have that are not known to describe how and where it happened.

Ha ha... a bit of honesty from me. Just last week I watched a video and you said to watch the minting process. Well I FINALLY did, and boy am I glad I did. I find myself looking at things wondering what it is but really if it is not on this list who cares. I will now spend my time wiser and search the years for the coin, the actually known errors and move on from anything else. Ha ha I have to laugh at myself for not watching this before. Thank you Daniel

Key to the difference is a love of the topic and a desire to share the knowledge. You are a great truthful teacher! Thank you so much. There is no greater a compliment in my view. Keep it going!

DANIEL! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for providing this detailed super informative walk thru of the minting process! I stopped using forums in the community, specifically, over debates as to what causes double dies, what is hub doubling, etc.. etc.. years ago when I was just starting out, I would submit pictures and ask questions on other forum and chat boards of coins that I had. And it may just have been my rookie perspective, however every single thing I submitted these experienced collectors at 10 20 years behind them, seemed quick to dismiss literally every single suggestion I I posted. The only supporting information they would provide would be the same link to the same KZbin video defining what is a double die and what isn't. Yes I'm going to the website yes I'm reading it all yes and printing out all the graphics and posting them on my wall! I STILL contend, however, that every doubling, regardless if it's hub doubling or die doubling they're all caused from the same device. Will there be a hub to make a die or die to make a hub to make it more dies... Doubling a feature seen on the coins are not caused by multiple strikes of the hammer die to the blanchet. As you said that the doubling is already on the die before the plant should even gets there.

Thanks for the info Daniel. This tells us a lot about where the coin collecting hobby (numismatics) has taken us to today. I am an oldtimer and we mainly ficused on key dates and mintmarks in my heydays and errors and varieties were not as much important. Mostly very rare and it didnt consume as much of our time as it does now. There are so many things to look for now. Besides a jewelers loupe a digital microscope comes in real handy. I am so glad we are bringing in so many young numismatists and hope it continues to grow!

Great video Daniel. However I am a machinist by trade so I had no problem following the process. I’ve never operated a coin press but I’ve operated just about every other type of machinery and believe me I’d love to have a job at the Philadelphia mint. It’s about 3 1/2 hrs east of where I live but I would have no problem relocating. That would be awesome seeing as how I love coins. I’ve checked it out briefly and you have to have serious connections to land that job and I don’t have that kind of juice.

Hey Daniel, Can a copper penny planchet be mixed in with a bunch of dime planchets, and then be pulled out once it was noticed but only after having gone through the upsetting mill and before the stamping press? Causing the upset rim intended for a dime on a penny. And then grabbing that same penny planchet and tossing it back in with the other copper Penny's to finish being struck? I have a penny which I'll be posting on your coinhelpu community and see what people think? I'm assuming this is what happened to my coins as I can't find anything on why it looks the way it does. The inside of the penny has a raised collar the same size as a dime with readed edged on the inside of those rings? Again I'll post and see what people think it is?
@CoinHELPu3 жыл бұрын
No, this can't happen and why I recommend reading error-ref.com website as a book.
@jaydelarosa19484 жыл бұрын
So I don't know where you from, what country but in layman's terms you would have to make the master hub the way you wanted due to the fact that you can modify it however you want it.
@lifeindetale5 ай бұрын
Ok the process is not easily understood unless the machining parts and pressing tools are shown in detail.. that little diagram of a cookie factory does nothing for someone like me that has coins that are possibly mint errors and need to have more detail on dies.. like how is the die fastened is it screwed into something.. chambers? How's the hammer attached?
@CoinHELPu5 ай бұрын
You don't need to know all of that to learn what a mint error or variety is. If you don't know what the different between a variety and a mint error then you need to study. You need to read about them and study images. Knowing about how the die is installed will not help you and that is why you're struggling. You're looking for the wrong things.
@masterofcents.81755 жыл бұрын
