With Manhattan traffic potentially worse than ever and a second phase now targeting and fining recent model cars for their emissions, Eyewitness News went to London to see how their city fared with congestion pricing.
Moving forward is what the city of London promised it would do in 2003.
With great fanfare, it launched what it called its congestion charge, which uses a network of cameras and plate readers to toll every vehicle passing into the city center.
Their hope was to tackle the endless procession of traffic, one of London's most persistent problems.

It is better to lower the rail and any other transport fare charge so that commuters can be less financial difficulties. Rail fare is too high , need to get down.

how about NY spend some money fixing cities upstate and creating high speed trains like they have in japan, connecting them to NYC. This would actually help to boost the whole states economy, and offering lower cost housing solutions, 'Live in Troy, NY and work in NYC."

The trains in Japan work because they are not operated by the city but owned by private companies. When the government runs something there is no incentive to thrive because it's not their money that is lost.

Biased journalism? How about actually comparing the details of two plans? Manhattan's zone is surrounded by large rivers mostly, so geography itself may reduce the congestion seen in London near the borders.

Dear Engr. Good evening. This is Ariston Jr. R. Gorospe. the Author of Vehicular Brand Volume Reduction or Brand Coding. I incidentally read your article about “Out-of-the-Box” Solution to the Traffic Congestion in Metro Manila “Some have suggested” according to USCAP“to use the vehicle type as the base for restrictions: no Toyotas on Mondays, no Hondas on Tuesday... Is it feasible? Toyota is largely dominant. A Toyota ban on some days would create a huge uproar. Would it also apply to ubiquitous Toyota taxicabs?” THIS IS JUST TO SUMMARIZE THE CONCEPT POLICY VBVR My answer, Yes, it is feasible. Since I am the author of vehicular brand volume reduction or brand coding I have the mechanics on how to reduce car reduction by 45% on the road particularly at EDSA and to another thoroughfare on segregation of mixed dominant car brand per day .in 5 or even in 7 days through vehicular brand segregation reduction of the total car LTO registered based on allowed ratio kilometers .you can not do the concept by just one brand per day .but by of mixed segregation of dominant brand example if you have one brand like BLUE MAX AUTOMOBILE registered consist of ten thousand cars at NCR registered divided by 5 is 2k per day and other mixed car brand added segregate them again in one box per day on a number of units together with another brand you have a total volume segregated in five working days and car that are not ban to travel by segregation will have a window hour travel time if you have a total 20 thousand cars if you plan to have a segreation of banned cars of 45% on the road you will have widen the space to travel in a peak hour however never used the brand name but ont 5 colors different conductive sticker for the reason of monitoring and control of the growing numbers on travel time per day. and Taxicabs and other public transportation will still be color-coding of MMDA. Hope to hear from you and let's talk about it. Stay safe. Best regards, Ariston Jr. R. Gorospe +639774975602 Pocholo Ariston Jr. Gorospe

exactly bass ackwards. Technically NOT implementing an effective policy to solve traffic congestion (too many cars) is insanity, doing the same thing over and over---is what NYC and cities have been doing, until London, now NYC. Was rollout and current policy perfect in London? no there are fixes that can help. remove the exemptions for black cabs (must have a big lobby there), allow transition zones of half rate pricing, so it's not such a sharp change to the "free" areas, among other changes.
