IMO, Haze was another original strain that kicked total ass in the early 90's but everyone tried to re-capture its qualities in a more managable plant that could be grown easier indoors. But in trying to create a more managable plant, the special qualities that made up the Haze experience was actually mistakingly bred out of the plant. Most people in 1994 did not want to grow a 6-7+ ft tall lanky, 10-15 week flowering low yielding plant. Back then it was all about that 8-8.5 wk indica dominant plant. Here in Canada I gave up buying Haze flower as its so vastly diff to what I know Haze once was. Other countries and Continents are gonna have our flower lunch if they can get back the equatorial Sativa genotypes that peeled the top of your head off.

The industry was pushed to more to Nacotic type strains and effects. Personally, I don't like these effects as a canibis for consumption , I prefer A energetic sativa. I remember hearing Kevin talk about how over the years when oxycotton was popular it had changed the profile of consumption of cannabis. Today, it's all about being incredibly high versus being functional and active from my experience in the industry. So you grow what people prefer today.

First time attendee here! I can tell you first hand as one farmers who got gelato from jigga and sherbinski who flew in to directly put it in our hands that the mass of gelato available to the public is weak compared to original regular sexed beans! I’m sure it’s due to plenty inbreeding! Most ppl don’t understand consecutively inbreeding just weakens the plants, the orginal lato had more variety of phenos! They handed us over 1k beans, & this was 2-3yrs before young dolph even rapped about it! Many pheno from original beans! Og kush was dominant in lots of them! Which was not surprising when sherbinski drop gello which is supposedly flo with gelato 45! Just surprised how long it took him to release it, which in all honesty between us in the comment section I truly believe gello is just an F1 or drum rolls……an original gelato pheno! In the original lato pheno hunts we did, which was over hundreds first round! A third of them did have much purple like u see today! I have stayed in the background for many yrs but I’ll shed light like the OGs here in the podcast! Gelato & runtz today is ruining the community bcuz of commercial and bcuz lot of my generation and new generation is just going off the hype! Truly is hard to educate the new generation bcuz we can’t say shit without u already thinking u know everything! I’m shocked by wat most of the generation thinks is actually quality or wat they call zaza! I’ve literally seen lots of new generation pick commercial deps and over quality indoors bcuz it didn’t smell like zaza which in most cases is just gelato/runtz/sherb but for those who truly want to learn these OGs spitting facts! 🙌

I thought, at least i could make use of the WN genes in that way. On the other hand, i really do love the Amnesia! Hybrids have not improved REAL centuries old cultured cannabis strains. Purps? Feminization? Autoflower? Say Noooooo! Also, the names are absurd too. Hybrids are not against any god, but breeders can't duplicate the terrior of the best landraces. Simply impossible. The flavors of mid altitude Colombian can't be duplicated. Even different Himalayan valleys have their own distinctive terpene profiles. Connoisseurs can tell with their eyes closed. The 'experts' are overrated and full of themselves. First time I smoked cookies was in 2007 in Southern California it was from the Bay Area and we picked it up in Los Angeles . Best weed that was around and it was better then indoor growings we got from ppl in southern cali . And cookies was the first thing we called kush along with orange kush . Then they crossed orange kush and it was orange cookies which is an amazing strain with the cookies smell with the orange . Everyone that smoked cookies when it came out knows the cookies smell and taste was different than everything else . I also remember bubble gum kush .

48:48 You could get cloning gel back in the late 90's my guys. To say NOBODY was working on Genetic breeding until after cookies popped up is being ignorant of the facts. Theres PLENTY of people doing actual genetic testing, lab cultures and the whole 9 yards. They have been since long before stuff went legal, and therefore long before prop 215 and Berner deciding to make some money on his brand. No im not talking just tossing two plants together im talking actual breeding. Many decades before berner. Just in my little town we had a couple growers working on f15+ strains.. back crossing genetics on to the mother producing seeds popping the seeds then cloning and so on so forth. Gberry/Gooberry it is called... and nothing on the market today even comes close. Kind of hard to when everyone is stuck on 8 week flower cycles... this plant takes a full 3 months for flower. 12 weeks MINIMUM. But tell me more how people didnt know anything before berner "blessed us" all....

Cigaweed. It’s almost like everybody wants soul less tobacco like cannabis. I noticed that about seven years ago that all the cannabis kinda had a lack of the flavor that it had before they used to be like strawberry cough or train wreck or the original gorilla glue, cheese, or blue cheese, granddaddy peep, grape ape, northern lights, blueberry, and anything in the 90s that was grown before legalization that was considered a kind bud just had superior flavor and a better high. It’s almost like everybody wants to have a tobacco high tobacco flavor and a plain note less gas flavor with maybe hints of pine from time to time. But the days of strong fruit or floral have passed it seems and I’ve noticed people seem to get annoyed by requesting those kind of flavors when I go into the shops. if I do find a strain that has the qualities of an old-school kind bud with strong candy like flavor that’s sweet most people nowadays do not appreciate it and just prefer that cookies crap. Cookies ruined ganja for the most part for me. The high is awful.

I'd almost rather not smoke than smoke any of the cookies strains. Another aspect besides the genetics, is the growers chasing meme-strains typically also suck at producing quality even when they do work with genetics I like. People seem to not be aware that there was even a market for $400+/oz bud in cali 20+yrs ago. The best growers understood that quality is king and there was a sizeable personals market between many heads. These were typically stains that would be difficult to really commercialize, such as 15week sativas or strains from people that just wanted to produce personals. Rec markets driven by companies seeking profit with zero interest in cannabis itself have damaged the cannabis genepool more than prohibition ever did.
@darkfafnir43896 ай бұрын
Cross breeding has took it to the point of messing up genes and the terps that come with it. The whole point is to have synergy... Everything working together to improve the medication. We always cloned when found what we liked. We had a Christmas 🎄 sized plant that we would clone off of and had a sperate clone/ vegetation area. It took longer cause of the cloning aspects but the Train Wreck was probably still to this day on if the best things I've smoked.

When breeding i only care wat the end product is and personally as a small scale breeder i pollinate each plants branch separately sometimes with as many as 5 different males weather a seperate type or the same line i think its very important as ive found many interesting flavors and different qualities for example i have a bubble gum x gorilla glue x samsquach og auto which was testing consistently at 26% to 28% and this was 5yrs ago and has everything you want great taste high ect and on med side very calm and clear headed without a hard come down and yeilds well in concentrates or flower done in 70 to 75days from seed but to get this variety i spent 1 yr running just those 3 crossing them then another year hunting them and i could run 5 grows a yr and its gone before harvest people reserve it ahead of harvest. I will say i dont like this newer bud like wedding cake runtz ect im not a fan there is so much mids out and honestly mids is an understatement but the mediocre bud around is problematic bc people think its fire when in reality its no different than everyone elses its sad i miss the truely special cuts and unfortunately they maybe lost to history but i hope not.

Most times neither parent cultivar is discernable in the chosen offspring they are selling. They are just mutts.
