First class-very clearly explained, and with equally clear speech. I watched a clip previously which had a mind-numbing and irritating soundtrack that overwhelmed the presenter's dull, quite monotone. I gave up, and ended up here--result! Thanks for making and posting this.

thanks! i recently put in a NEW (but bad) CKP sensor and its apparently shorted internally- screwing up my fuel level gauge, ignition coil/ignitor(?) and setting off a host of other selonoids- et al! I cleaned all grounds, rebuilt my fuse box, new ECU, cleaned everything........no changes UNTIL i just now decided to swap back in the old CKP sensor. All the electrical clicking, etc went away immediately and Im not going thru the KEY RELEARN process for the new ECU

Brilliant and very clear explanation. You seem to have a lot of experience with various OEM and aftermarket EFI set up. In your opinion which aftermarket EFI would you chooses for best reliability for the costs for a street performance 4 cylinder engine in a hot climate? Not sure if it would be single throttle body or quad as yet. I realize what technology is always improving

Hey great video, you mentioned sensors having to be at certain angles from tdc, I have a nissan vk45dd I wish to put in another vehicle but have nowhere to locate the sensor yet, it has a missing tooth so might the nissan ecu pick up the pattern at whatever angle I locate it he sensor, say under the motor as opposed to some other location?

Really good video, I have now subscribed! I always assumed the general function of the crank sensor but needed some specifics for some troubleshooting with my car, and this video was exactly what I needed. It gave detailed information, and yet I think even a complete mechanical novice would understand it.

THOSE THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WORK AS A DISTRIBUTOR WHERE IT DISTRIBUTE POWER ACCORDING TO HOW FAR IT IS FROM THE OFFSET, FOR EXAMPLE SAME CARS U COUNT 16 TEETH FOR IT TO SOUND RIGHT. SO IF AM TO TAKE IT BACK A BIT OR FORWARD WILL IT AFFECT THE FIRING SYSTEM LIKE A DISTRIBUTOR

Hi. I am doing a manual transmission swap in a platform that has not been fully tested before (350z manual transmission in a Titan truck). If I have to move the sensor do I also need to rotate the sensor ring accordingly? E.g. The oem location for the sensor is at 7 o'clock and the new location o must move it to for my application is at 5 oclock. From what I understand to allow the Ecu to accurately read the crank position I will need to rotate the timing ring so that it is in line with the new location of the sensor. Is this correct?

@olafzijnbuis7 жыл бұрын
All very well, but at at 1:36 you have NOT mentioned a crucial part: the MAGNET. Without the magnet there is no change in the field and thus no output pulses. The magnet magnetizes the core. The passing teeth influence the magnetic flow. This CHANGE in magnetic field generates a voltage in the coil.

olafzijnbuis these sensors are the dumbest invention they ever created swap the ignition to a magneto type ignition if they want precision and save people the aggrivating of dealing with these pieces of junk

my mom needs help she is a senior citizen and can't get her truck started and doesn't have alot of money and I don't have much to help either I put new spark plugs and wires, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, ignition coil since those didnt cost alot from rockauto still nothing it cranks but doesn't seem to get spark the rpm needle moves when trying to start and the check engine light goes off when trying to start when you stop trying to start check engine light comes back on only other thing I can think it is is the pcm not being told to tell the spark plugs to spark but don't have a way to know of I'm right before buying 1 of them please help I dont know what else to look for Unless someone in michigan that can come help appreciate it Or any ideal what else I should check Some people say fuel pump but I wouldn't think that would stop spark but not the best mechanically inclined 2004 ford ranger xlt 3.0 v6

How does crankshaft position sensor know the engine is at intake stroke (when the intake valves open) and activate the fuel injector ?
@chanakyasinha80465 жыл бұрын
As far as i know, the gear on which sensor is going for reading have 2:1 ratio geared to the crankshaft, meaning the gear connected to crankshaft rotates twice while the gear on which reading is to be taken rotates once, hence this way it is transmiting correct timing

So the trigger wheel has nothing to do with the crank pulley ?
@themtechzone10 жыл бұрын
Hi - well it does and it doesent - some engines have the trigger wheel on the crank pulley (older BMWs for example) but most now have it integral to the flywheel
@vanglorious58510 жыл бұрын
I see that motec systems use CRIP. in which they use index tooth as reference rather than the missing tooth for tdc. So does the number of teeth on the trigger wheel is related to precision of ignition and injection events?
@themtechzone10 жыл бұрын
Auto takumi It depends hjow they base the timing for events - from the last tooth or the last 'TDC' - from the last tooth would give higher accuracy AS LONG as you compensate for delta rates of changing crank speeds (is a TDC based system takes an average) Generaly a goog timing algorithm would take advantage of both, and also have a predictior based on ingition angle (which then causes crank acceleratrion) to compensate :)

Crank position sensors and every other crazy sensor is a waste of engineering excellence and only makes automotive manufacturers look like dumb asses. I can build you a motor with none of these retarded sensors that will run a few hundred thousand miles with zero issues because it's kept simple with none of these sensors.

Great video..(As a novice I fully understand your explaination 10/10).. have a question ...what could possibly cause this senario...after changing 3 CrankSensors in my Prado 1KZ-TE Diesel 1998 Engine... at idle, stop or slow speed engine light comes on...once driving the engine light goes out. The engine light is being triggered by the crank shaft sensor... what is it that my mechanic may have overlooked to correct this engine rebuild issue?

Hmm maybe if corrsion has built up - crank position code might be just a sensor failure or the flyhweel is damaged, the ECU cant tell which...
