Hello, I was born in Drc grew up in south part of Drc in Lubumbashi city. about security its totally different. I am Half Belgian Half Congolese. believe me, local people are not dangerous, they are friendly. but if you only saw Kinshasa you need to visit the south part of Drc before you give this type of stories. dont forget kinshasa is a big city like lagos with all problems you can find in huge town. In lubumbashi foreigns people walk without problems. please you need to go to Lubumbashi, Likasi, Goma, Kisangani and other cities. and about money they dont run to white people only. Congolese are not that poor again big city problem. please please your vision of DRC is totally right. and its a vision from a foreigners scared about locals. thank you.

In any foreign country if you look and sound different from the local people, there's a high chance of being harrassed. And i have lived in russia and i heard a lot of stories of foreigners being harrassed. Its not just DRC. Even in South Africa its same thing. You'll meet people who will want to take advantage of you especially if you are not hanging with the locals.

@@warmhearttravels1This is not to defend bad behavior ANYWHERE. You’ll find this kind of situation in places like India or anywhere where there is more poverty or where countries are being exploited by outside theft and corruption, perpetuated by European countries, like France or Belgium. The commenter above is right, a lot of it has to do with your initial innate thoughts. It’s called the “Law of Attraction”, if you walk around with fear and negative thoughts then more than likely you’ll receive what you fear the most. Make FRIENDS & hang out with locals, especially if you can make friends with your local COWORKERS; female & male. Foreigners, especially Europeans/Eurasians tend to isolate themselves and have this “holier than thou/better than them” type of mentality. Not saying that is how you are but that’s how when you see a White person walking around in the “hood” doesn’t get bothered because of the way he/she carries him/herself. Walking around looking or carrying a paranoid energy, you’ll get harassed. Neither here nor there comment, but you would be considered White there but you don’t look “White” to me. You look “mixed”.

Congo is a beautiful country and people are friendly… i grew up in Lubumbashi and heard a lot of stories about Kinshasa , it is a huge city and yes walking around with a lot of money wouldn’t be wise black or white anywhere on earth. At 4:10 in video you will see a white woman walking . And I don’t think it’s okay to just take pictures of local people without their consent, I have been on three continent and everywhere if you, want to take a picture there is a proper way of doing it. One of the issue is that Africans are aware of how Africa is portrayed by some white people or foreigners poor, underdeveloped, and they just don’t want you to use their face as the image of that portrait

Hi madam, I am happy to hear that. I am also a Zambian...but I lived in the DRC /Lubumbashi for more than 5 years. I lived in different cities like likadi, kolwezi, kipushi etc... I agree with her because Kinshasa is the capital city and everything happens there, but in other cities things are different. On the internet part and smart phones I disagree! Police are a bit arrogant because people in the gourvement are poor (their salaries are low). It's a bit dangerous to live in the capital city, but those things are happening even in South Africa and other part of the world. They are other scary parts in America, but no one will tell you.

Wow, it sucks to be a foreigner in Kinshasa! To REALLY enjoy life in Kinshasa, you've got to know and love the people. I'd hate to be in your shoes! You miss out on a lot! Especially if you don't know the local language! I'd suggest learning Lingala before you go, and be willing to take some risks. You might just discover how wonderful people are. And... Yes, people are always asking for money EVEN from other locals, not just to foreigners. It matters to set a limit. ONE THING you will never know as a foreigner, is that there a lot of wealthy people in DRC that are not foreigners and they live well. So the $2 per day salary concept, is a lie spread by Western Media to hide the truth from you people! Maybe it's best not to go back! I'd hate to go to a country where I don't feel free to walk outside... might as well stay in prison!

Right now Kinshasa is a place for the rough and tough type of persons to visit. It's difficult to not fall into generalizations because there are strange behaviour that you rarely find in other African big cities. A neighborhood like Gombe is generally safe but three quarters of the city are not advisable for foreigners if you don't have local friends with you or if you don't appear strong. I am a Congolese. it's not poor lol it just has a low GDP per Capita 😂 it's the 12th richest in Africa when it's comes to GDp or GDP Ppp 😂😂 there's a reason why congo is still the most beautiful country in. Central Africa after Angola and congo Kinshasa or whole country in general is better then alot of these countries in Africa that have less poverty
