8:40 I will never understand this trajectory, as I was raised conservative Christian, and though I did rebel as a teenager like you mentioned, my mid 20s was when I was finally able to admit I'm not a believer. I'm 43 now and I haven't even once considered returning.

Yeah, I don't think any form of Christianity is necessary for being a spiritual person, in fact, I think it can be straight up harmful

@@jimtroeltsch5998 Here I must admit I'm not a spiritual person at all and think the most likely nature of our reality is that we're simply meat machines with complicated and widely varying brains. And yes I even took my fair share of psychedelics.

That struggle of being held down in hot water is a real thing that feels like your spark being dulled by a spiritual water boarding. The only out is to succomb -- but to what or whom? That is what is unknown when you act in a way that is drawing the wrong kind of attention. I think any serious writer who has gotten into trouble deals with this. It is a miracle to come out of it. There are always reminders...

I feel similar to what you were saying around 10:00. Nobody I'm close to in my personal life is a reader, so I have to hold back my thoughts, as I know, from past experience, they will case tension, and that can be very frustrating! Luckily, I practice yoga too. I get the tension out through meditating and journaling.

I think this might be what I'm missing, so to speak. I get into arguments all the time for being sharper than others around me. It's horrifying really and deeply frustrating. I've always felt misunderstood, so maybe the play is to make a character for myself that makes life easier to navigate.

Not to sound like a smartass but, I know some of the most ignorant people ever, and when I'm out with them my personality kinda change to fit them but it actually feel a bit freeing for some reason.
